Exterior design

Every child recognises a 911, but can its identity be described in words? It can, by looking more closely at the use of form, proportions and contours. The roof line tapers down into the rear. The wings are higher than the front lid and, at the rear, they add muscle. They give the 911 its distinctive expression and leave you in no doubt as to its temperament.
The overall appearance is low, wide and sleek. Typically 911.
So, is everything just the same as it has been since 1963? Yes, and no. After all, only those who change will remain true to themselves – and we’ve changed.
Our designers and engineers speak guardedly about the 911 evolution. Meanwhile, they continually manage to take great strides forward with innovations motivated by the principle that these should be functional and perfectly compatible. The result is a harmonious overall concept that makes the new 911 a sportscar fit for the 21st century.
To show you what we mean, we should start by looking at the car’s exterior. The wheelbase of the new 911 is 100 mm longer for improved driving stability and cornering dynamics. Overhang is now shorter at the front and rear, making the new 911 look even more compact.
The sporty overall impression is emphasised by the lower roof line and a wider track at the front – 46 mm on the 911 Carrera models and 52 mm on the 911 Carrera S models. For improved aerodynamics, the exterior mirrors are now mounted directly on the doors. Increased agility is just one of the results of all these refinements.
The silhouette is therefore typically 911 and typical in terms of its development, which will now be described in more detail.
The new vehicle architecture, with a wider track at the front axle and the lower roof line, gives the front of the new 911 a dynamic appearance that is sporty and elegant. Fitted as standard, the new Bi-Xenon headlights still have the familiar oval-shaped surrounds for classic appeal and reveal their technically impressive inner workings. The Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) with dynamic cornering lights and speed-sensitive headlight control logic is available as an option.
The direction indicators, daytime running lights and position lights are all LEDs and are integrated into the separate front light units. Their slimline design contrasts with that of the rounded headlights. Together with the two integral air intakes, they make the front of the new 911 unmistakable.
At the rear, everything feels sharper: the styling, the appearance and the effect. This is due not least to the distinctive profile edge and new LED taillights, their stretched design accentuating the horizontal contouring of the rear. The characteristic reflector units have been positioned lower down but are still recognisable, particularly at night.
The stainless-steel tailpipes have been restyled. On the 911 Carrera S models, twin tailpipes are fitted on both sides. One new feature is the wider, extendable rear spoiler, which reduces lift in all driving situations and increases driving stability.
The 911 Carrera models and the 911 Carrera S models are equipped as standard with 19-inch and 20-inch wheels respectively. One inch larger than those on the respective previous model, they enhance the sporty presence of the new 911. Newly developed tyres with increased rolling circumference improve both comfort and performance.
In summary, form always follows function. As a design principle, it couldn’t be more simple, but it’s what makes the 911 a 911.
It’s also how we have managed to achieve a very low drag coefficient of just 0.29 on the Coupe models and 0.30 on the Cabriolets.
Even the logo on the rear has an important function to perform. It is, after all, the hallmark of the Porsche identity.

Interior design

At Porsche, we don’t build everyday sportscars, we build sportscars for everyday use. How? By understanding that great agility and maximum comfort are not mutually exclusive but are, in fact, aspects of a harmonious overall concept.
This is especially true of the interior of the new 911. Sportiness, functionality and high-quality materials combine to form a cohesive whole that is conducive to dynamic driving, even during everyday use.
What this means becomes clear the moment you get in. The extended wheelbase now offers 25 mm more leg room in the front than in previous 911 models. Sportiness in harmony with comfort is the theme which is reflected in the clever ergonomics that characterise the entire interior design. The materials used, the layout of the controls and their operating logic belong to a new generation of sportscar. Another new design for the new 911 is the elevated centre console. Its intelligent operating concept follows a clear principle of direct simplicity.
A classic 911 feature is the arrangement of the five circular instruments with the rev counter in the middle. A new addition is the instrument cluster featuring a high-resolution 4.6-inch full VGA TFT colour display for viewing on-board computer, audio system or navigation information.
Fitted as standard, the Sports seats combine even greater comfort with racing-style support and now feature 4-way electric adjustment. The new automatic climate control with zonal temperature controls for driver and front passenger also comes as standard. Also new is the optional light design package for the footwells, storage compartments, rear compartment and overhead console. As ever, we offer an extensive selection of interior colours and materials, such as carbon, leather, wood or aluminium.
Acoustics are an integral part of the concept, particularly the engine sound. Available as an option is the Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System. Optimised for the new 911 Carrera model range, it features 12 loudspeakers and a total output of 821 watts for a perfect spatial sound.
The new 911 proves that apparent opposites, such as style and engineering or comfort and performance, can go hand in hand. For us, there is no contradiction and certainly no need for compromise. After all, a strong personality does not deny the existence of opposites, it unites them.

Engineering 911

What use is the engineering of tomorrow when it can be found on the road today? None. So let’s turn to the here and now.
The engines, as you would expect, are characterised by six horizontally opposed cylinders. The 3.4-litre engine in the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera Cabriolet produces 257 kW (350 hp); in the 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, the 3.8-litre engine develops 294 kW (400 hp). All models are equipped with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus for increased power and reduced fuel consumption. This power is transmitted to the wheels by the new and efficient 7-speed manual gearbox or, optionally, by efficiency-enhanced Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), which offers gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power.
Both engines deliver improved sporty performance compared with the engine in the previous model and yet fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 16%. How was this achieved? One explanation is the reduced capacity of 3.4 litres in the 911 Carrera models. Another is the total redevelopment of the engine peripherals with groundbreaking efficiency-improving technologies.
As standard, these include the auto start/stop function, electrical system recuperation and intelligent thermal management as well as the new, energy-saving electromechanical steering system and, in the case of PDK, the introduction of the coasting function (for more information, please refer to page 43 onwards).
The chassis is also packed with forward-looking technology. Fitted as standard in the 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) increases dynamic performance. Available as an option for the S models, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) improves dynamic performance further still. Dynamic engine mounts, included as part of the optional Sport Chrono Package, are now available in a 911 Carrera for the first time. These provide perceptibly more stable handling under load change conditions and in fast corners.
The new 911 has a lightweight composite construction in aluminium and steel. Used extensively and in just the right places, lightweight aluminium improves fuel economy and dynamic performance and helps to achieve a low weight to power ratio of 4.7 kg/kW (3.5 kg/hp) for the 911 Carrera S.
The future of the sportscar begins now.
The new 911 Carrera
In the 21st century, we find ourselves caught between all kinds of opposites on a daily basis: between the demands of our work life and our private life, between the real world and virtual reality. How can they all be reconciled? With a strong identity and a sportscar that has incorporated many contradictory notions since 1963.
Sportiness and everyday practicality are a prime example. The new 911 Carrera is equipped as standard with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus for high power, high torque, efficient combustion and, as a result, comparatively low fuel consumption.
Tradition and innovation blend seamlessly together in the new rear-mounted 3.4-litre flat-six engine thanks to its downsized capacity. Despite the reduced displacement, the engine is capable of delivering even more power to the road than its 3.6-litre predecessor.
The figures speak for themselves. The maximum power of 257 kW (350 hp) is available at 7,400 rpm and the maximum torque of 390 Nm is generated at 5,600 rpm. Yet, in conjunction with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 16% compared with the previous model. Even more impressively, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 289 km/h.
The new 911 Carrera generates powerful forces, which are transmitted precisely and directly to the wheels by the new 7-speed manual gearbox. As with the optional PDK, gears 1 to 6 have a sports ratio, while 7th gear has a long ratio for reduced fuel consumption. The SPORT button, which is fitted as standard, makes it possible to select an even more responsive engine and transmission setup.
In terms of form and function, the new single tailpipes are especially imposing and emit a sound which is typically Porsche. The 19-inch Carrera wheels are fitted as standard and improve driving stability and performance.
Sports car technology as standard, in the form of black four-piston monobloc aluminium fixed calipers, Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and Bi-Xenon headlights, shows that sportiness and safety are not mutually exclusive.
Sport, moderation, everyday practicality and style. Four key themes, one unifying concept: the new 911 Carrera.

The new 911 Carrera S
Nothing defines us more than our heritage. It says a lot about who we are. This is particularly true of the new 911 Carrera S, which has all the characteristics you would expect of a sportscar whose origin is in motorsport.
An elementary component of its DNA, therefore, is power in the form of a 3.8-litre engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It delivers 294 kW (400 hp) at 7,400 rpm, and the maximum torque of 440 Nm is achieved at 5,600 rpm. In conjunction with the manual gearbox, the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is completed in just 4.5 seconds. Top speed isn’t reached until 304 km/h.
On figures alone, the new 911 Carrera S excels, particularly in terms of efficiency. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 15% compared with the previous model. This has been possible thanks to the auto start/stop function, which is available as standard, and the coasting function in conjunction with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).
It’s not difficult to tell where the 911 Carrera S comes from. You can hear it in the resonant engine sound and you can see it in the twin tailpipes in brushed stainless steel and 20-inch Carrera S wheels.
You can also feel it, thanks to Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which is fitted as standard, or the optional PASM sports suspension with sporty aerodynamics and the ride height lowered by 20 mm. Or the optional Sport Chrono Package and dynamic engine mounts. Available as standard, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), or Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) in conjunction with the optional PDK, increase traction. Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), the active roll stabilisation system, is available as an option and improves agility, comfort and safety.
On the subject of safety, the brakes at the front of the new 911 Carrera S come equipped for the first time with monobloc fixed calipers with six instead of four pistons for improved braking performance and a shorter braking distance. Bi-Xenon headlights are standard and the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) is available as an option.
There is no doubt. The new 911 Carrera S knows its roots, and embraces them with efficiency, power and sporty performance.

You could ask whether the sportscar is still relevant. It would be a good question, but you might as well ask the same of dreams.
The answer to both questions lies in the future or, to be more precise, in the future of the sportscar. In the new 911, the future has already begun. The highly efficient, state-of-the-art engines make a considerable contribution to reducing fuel consumption, but their sound is still unmistakably Porsche.
The new 911 engines are also unmistakably sporty thanks to the new SPORT button fitted as standard. At the push of a button, the engine becomes tuned for a sharper response and engine dynamics that are even more direct.
The 3.4-litre engine of the new 911 Carrera models demonstrates, therefore, that performance and efficiency need not be mutually exclusive. Rather, the downsized engine capacity and increased maximum torque are the intelligent basis by which power output can be increased in an environmentally acceptable and sustainable way. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by up to 16% compared with the previous model.
In their search for improved efficiency, our engineers analysed an extensive series of engine components. Answers were found, including rapid heating of the engine and gearbox to normal operating temperature after an engine start by the new thermal management system, improved air induction and the extremely effective direct fuel injection (DFI).
The same principle applies to the 3.8-litre engine in the 911 Carrera S models. There has been no change in displacement since the previous model, but power output has been increased while fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 15%.
Weight is critical to efficiency. This is why the engines have a light-alloy construction, which makes them lightweight and structurally rigid for improved fuel economy and a long life.
The engine is the intelligent core of our identity. What else could the ‘Dr. Ing.’ in our company name possibly stand for?

The new 3.4-litre engine
The 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera Cabriolet are equipped with a 3.4-litre boxer engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It develops 257 kW (350 hp) at 7,400 rpm and the maximum torque is 390 Nm at 5,600 rpm.
For the 911 Carrera with 7-speed manual gearbox, this means acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 289 km/h. The figures achieved by the 911 Carrera Cabriolet are 5.0 seconds and 286 km/h. With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it means figures of 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 287 km/h for the 911 Carrera and 4.8 seconds and 284 km/h for the 911 Carrera Cabriolet.

The new 3.8-litre engine
The 911 Carrera S and the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet are powered by a 3.8-litre boxer engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It produces 294 kW (400 hp) at 7,400 rpm and the maximum torque of 440 Nm is achieved at 5,600 rpm.
As a result, the new 911 Carrera S with 7-speed manual gearbox completes the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 304 km/h. The 911 Carrera S Cabriolet achieves 4.7 seconds and 301 km/h. With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the figures are 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 302 km/h for the Coupé and 4.5 seconds and 299 km/h for the Cabriolet.

7-speed manual gearbox

Pure, direct, precise. Short shift movements and an optimum transition from one gear to the next. That’s exactly what you would expect of a Porsche manual gearbox.
What you might not have expected is a 7-speed manual gearbox that combines a high level of sporty performance with an equally high level of efficiency and offers extra comfort for longer journeys. It’s an exceptional innovation, and not only in the sportscar segment.
The design of this manual gearbox is based in principle on that of Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK). Gears 1 to 6 have a sports ratio and top speed is reached in 6th gear. The additional 7th gear, however, has a long ratio, which reduces torque and helps to reduce fuel consumption. Lower engine revs at fast driving speeds also ensure a high level of comfort on long stretches of road. In addition, a gear indicator in the rev counter reminds you which gear has been selected. The upshift indicator in the instrument cluster helps you actively conserve fuel.
Thanks to the elevated centre console, the gear lever is within easy reach – ideal for sporty gear changes.
Whether you select a sporty or comfortable gear, the way you reach your destination is in your own hands.

Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)

Available as an option for the new 911 models is 7-speed PDK, featuring manual and automatic modes. This double-clutch transmission has been further refined and enables extremely fast gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power, which vastly improves acceleration at the same time as reducing fuel consumption.
In total, PDK has seven gears at its disposal. Gears 1 to 6 have a sports ratio and top speed is reached in 6th gear. 7th gear has a long ratio and helps to reduce fuel consumption by keeping engine revs low.
PDK is essentially two gearboxes in one and thus requires two clutches. This double-clutch arrangement provides an alternating, non-positive connection between the two half gearboxes and the engine by means of two separate input shafts.
The flow of power from the engine is transmitted through one half gearbox and one clutch at a time, while the next gear is preselected in the second half gearbox. During a gear change, therefore, one clutch simply opens and the other closes at the same time, enabling gear changes to take place within milliseconds.
The effect is instant. Driving feels even sportier and more dynamic, and agility is increased. Depending on the gearshift programme (SPORT button activated or deactivated), the gear change is optimised for comfort or for sporty driving.
With the optional Sport Chrono Package, PDK is enhanced by the ‘Launch Control’ and ‘motorsport-derived gearshift strategy’ functions.

Exhaust system

The exhaust system of the new 911 models has been completely redesigned, acoustics included.
The stainless-steel exhaust system comprises two distinctive and independent exhaust tracts. The catalytic converters heat up rapidly for effective emissions reduction.
A selectable twin-tube sports exhaust system featuring distinctive polished stainless-steel tailpipes is available as an option. Activated by a button, it produces an even more intensive sportscar sound.

Air intake system

The resonance intake system increases the intake volume by exploiting the fact that air oscillates as it passes through the intake manifold. The system can adjust to engine speed. Benefits of this include higher torque at low engine speeds and a flatter torque curve. The 911 Carrera S models operate a two-stage system.
The entire intake system is made from lightweight plastic. In the new 911 Carrera model range, the resonator volume of the air filter housing varies with engine speed to bring added character to the engine sound, which becomes much more powerful at higher rpm.

Chassis

Steering

Electromechanical power steering
Another possible definition of efficiency is a system that works only when it is needed, and then does so in a particularly effective way.
This was the guiding principle for our engineers in the development of the new electromechanical power steering. Statistics show that a car drives in a straight line 90% of the time. Unlike conventional hydraulic pumps, the electric motor uses energy only when the steering wheel is actually turned. The absence of hydraulic fluid also makes the system more beneficial to the environment.
As far as the other 10% is concerned, we’re optimally prepared as the steering system is typically Porsche. It features a variable steering ratio and responds sensitively and directly at the same time as providing customary agility, a high level of comfort and precisely selected feedback from the road. Our definition of efficient.

Power steering Plus
Power steering Plus, the comfort-enhancing power-steering system, is available as an option for the 911 Carrera models. At high speeds, the steering is as firm as you would expect and responds with extreme precision while steering comfort remains as high. At low speeds, the steering ratio of Power steering Plus adjusts for much easier manoeuvring and parking.

Sport Chrono Package

SPORT button
Fitted as standard, the new SPORT button enables you to select a suspension setup where the emphasis is on either comfort or sporty performance. At the push of a button, the electronic engine management system switches the engine mapping to offer an even sharper response and engine dynamics that are more direct.
In vehicles with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), upshifts take place at higher engine speeds and downshifts happen sooner. In addition, coasting mode and the auto start/stop function are automatically deactivated. If fitted, the optional sports exhaust system is also activated automatically.

Sport Chrono Package
The Sport Chrono Package including dynamic engine mounts is available as an option. This integrated system provides simultaneous enhancement for the chassis, engine and transmission.
Included in the package are a performance display, a digital and an analogue stopwatch and the SPORT PLUS button. An additional display in the steering wheel and instrument cluster indicates whether the SPORT buttons and Launch Control have been activated.
On activation of SPORT PLUS mode, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and, in the S model, optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) switch to a harder damping setting and offer more direct steering and, therefore, better road holding.
In SPORT PLUS mode, the trigger threshold for PSM is raised. Agility is perceptibly enhanced when braking for corners with PSM, allowing sportier braking and exit acceleration. For maximum dexterity, PSM can be set to standby while the car is still in SPORT PLUS mode. For safety, it is set to intervene automatically only when ABS assistance is required on both the front wheels.
In combination with PDK, the Sport Chrono Package has two additional functions for a sporty drive that borders on a motorsport experience. The first is ‘Launch Control’, which can be used on the track to achieve the best possible standing start – a racing start.
The second function is the ‘motorsport-derived gearshift strategy’. Using this, Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is geared up for extremely short shift times and optimum shift points for the maximum acceleration available. This combination of uncompromising and involving performance is ideal for the racetrack.
A key component of the Sport Chrono Package is the stopwatch mounted on the dashboard. In conjunction with the optional PCM, a special performance display enables you to view store and evaluate lap times or other driving times. It shows the total driving time, lap distance, lap number and lap times recorded so far.
A feature of the Sport Chrono Package borrowed from motorsport is the dynamic engine mounts. These exploit the laws of physics for your own driving pleasure.

Wheels + TPM

inch over the previous model. Not only do the larger wheels improve dynamic performance, they also look more imposing.
The new 911 Carrera models are equipped with 19-inch Carrera wheels as standard. These are lightweight alloys featuring a classic sporty design. Tire sizes are 235/40 ZR 19 and 285/35 ZR 19 at the front and rear respectively.
The S models are equipped with light-alloy 20-inch Carrera S wheels as standard. The visual effect is sporty and dynamic. The tires are slightly wider to cope with the increased power output of these models: 245/35 ZR 20 at the front, 295/30 ZR 20 at the rear.
The larger tire size improves both ride comfort and track performance. The rolling resistance of the tires has been reduced by up to 7% to improve fuel economy, while tire weight and dry braking distances have also been reduced. A selection of 20-inch wheels is available in our range of options.

Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM)
Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) is standard in the new 911 Carrera models. This safety system sends warnings to the on-board computer’s display screen in the event of low tire pressure or a gradual or sudden loss of pressure. The individual pressures in all four tires can be displayed in the instrument cluster.

Safety

Brakes

Brakes. Another crucial piece of the Porsche identity is the brakes. We value them as highly as we do our engines and chassis. They set standards for deceleration and stability, and give the driver the reassurance needed to push the car to the limits of its performance.
The 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera Cabriolet are fitted front and rear with anodised black four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers. All brake discs have a diameter of 330 mm.
On the 911 Carrera S models, we have fitted larger brakes and more brake pistons to cope with the increased engine power of these models. The new generation of brakes features red six-piston monobloc aluminium fixed brake calipers at the front and four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers at the rear. The brake disc diameter is 340 mm at the front and 330 mm at the rear. The results are enhanced braking performance and a reduction in stopping distance compared with that of the previous model.
On all models, the brake calipers have an enclosed monobloc construction. This makes them tougher but lighter and enables a more rapid response and release of the brake even under extreme loads. The pedal travel is short and the biting point precise. The brake discs are cross-drilled for better performance in the wet.
Other benefits of the standard braking system include the anti-lock braking system (ABS), designed to keep deceleration constant. Pedal effort is reduced and braking response improved by a newly developed 8-/9-inch tandem vacuum brake booster. In the S models, brake disc cooling is further enhanced by modified air spoilers.

Electric parking brake
The new electric parking brake, which you can activate and deactivate manually, releases automatically as you pull away.
With the hill-hold function, you can pull away without ever rolling back. The system automatically detects when the vehicle has come to a halt on an uphill gradient requiring intervention. PSM then maintains the brake pressure at all four wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving in the opposite direction.

Lights

The new 911 models are equipped as standard with Bi-Xenon headlights including a headlight cleaning system and dynamic range control. With dipped or main beam, the road ahead is illuminated more uniformly.
The restyled LED front light units incorporate direction indicators, daytimerunning lights and position lights.
Automatic headlight activation is also included as standard. The moment it gets dark, the daytime running lights switch off and the dipped beam headlights switch on automatically.
Cutting edge LED technology is also used for the taillights, the high-level third brake light, the licence plate illumination, the rear direction indicators and the rear fog light. LEDs provide better illumination and respond more quickly to driver input. In the event of sudden braking, the adaptive LED brake lights begin to pulsate. If the vehicle is braked to a halt, the hazard warning lights will switch on automatically, alerting following traffic more quickly to a critical situation.
The lighting system features an automatic switch-off and the ‘Welcome Home’ function. It’s good to know what’s around the next corner or on the way to your front door.

Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
The Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) is available as an option.
Its dynamic cornering light function swivels the headlights towards the inside of a bend, based on steering angle and road speed, in order to illuminate more of the road at tight bends and turns. Put simply, the road ahead is illuminated the moment you enter a bend.
The system also offers speed-sensitive headlight range control. With adaptive light systems, it is possible for the maximum range of the dipped beams to be increased as a function of the speed of the vehicle. PDLS takes care of this automatically in two stages. Stage 1 is the basic position for driving in city traffic, for example. Stage 2 is designed for driving at faster speeds, such as on the motorway. Above 130 km/h, the range is adapted again.
Another feature of PDLS is the adverse weather function, activated whenever the rear fog light is switched on. It reduces the effect of reflection phenomena in poor visibility conditions to avoid the risk of the driver being dazzled.

Airbags

Airbags
The new 911 models offer advanced airbag technology in the form of full-size driver and front passenger airbags, which are inflated in two stages depending on the severity and type of accident (e. g. frontal or offset frontal). In less serious accidents, the airbags are only partially inflated, thereby minimising discomfort to the occupants.
In addition to the central airbag control unit on the transmission tunnel, a pair of impact sensors are located near the headlights. This allows a crash to be detected and evaluated far sooner and with considerably greater accuracy.

Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP)
Coupé or Cabriolet, the new 911 models are equipped as standard with the Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP). It comprises side impact protection elements in the doors and two airbags on each side. An integral thorax airbag is located in each seat side bolster, while the door panels each contain an upwards-inflating head airbag. Each thorax airbag has a volume of 10 litres and each head airbag 15 litres, ensuring excellent protection in the event of a side impact.

Engineered design

The new 911 fulfils two structural design requirements thanks to its completely new bodyshell: first, excellent driving dynamics due to the body’s extremely high rigidity; second, a vehicle weight saving of up to 60 kg primarily as a result of the intelligent lightweight construction.
To meet the second requirement, we employed innovative and precise techniques for combining various materials in order to utilise specific material properties exactly where they are needed.
For the bodyshell, therefore, we used very thin, but nevertheless extremely rigid, sheets of steel. Aluminium and magnesium were used extensively in areas such as the roof, underbody, front end, doors, rear wings and engine compartment and luggage compartment lids. Magnesium, which is a particularly lightweight material, was also selected for the cockpit and centre console support beam and, in the Cabriolet models, the hood shell elements. Such material efficiency is key to reducing the overall weight and, as a result, fuel consumption of the vehicle.
For the driver, this intelligent blend of materials reduces the weight of the vehicle and offers a high level of comfort thanks to excellent vibration-damping characteristics and particularly high composite rigidity, an increase in dynamic torsional stiffness of up to 25% compared with that of the previous model, and even sportier handling despite a further improvement in the weight to power ratio.
The 100 mm longer wheelbase improves comfort as well as straight-line accuracy and driving stability at high speeds and in fast corners.

Comfort

Interior

Engineering and style – and Porsche identity on the inside, as demonstrated by the new elevated centre console. In typical Porsche fashion, the use of form follows a basic principle: focus on the driver. This is why the distance between the gear lever or selector and steering wheel is extremely short and the operating logic, such as that of the two-zone air conditioning system or the suspension settings, is clear and uncomplicated. You shouldn’t have to browse one submenu after another. You should instead be able to concentrate on what’s important: the road.
All our materials are high quality. Sporty and elegant leather is used, for example, on the steering wheel rim, on the door pulls and armrests and on the partial leather seats, which are fitted as standard. Alcantara has proven its worth in motorsport and is used as standard for the rooflining of the Coupé models.
In addition to the choice of Black, Platinum Grey, Luxor Beige and Yachting Blue for the interior, there is a wide range of other personalisation options available, including two-tone colour combinations or special colours and materials such as carbon, aluminium or high-quality wood.
Engineering that takes you forward: optional Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation module and a high-resolution 7-inch colour touchscreen. PCM is your control centre for audio, navigation and communication functions.
Another element of the Porsche identity is sound. Fitted as standard, the CDR audio system with 7-inch colour touchscreen and the Sound Package Plus offer outstanding performance with a total output of 235 watts. Available as an option is the BOSE® Surround Sound System with a total output of 445 watts. In short, it delivers authentic audio playback combined with an impressive spatial sound. No system promises such high standards in the 911, and fulfils them, as the optional High-End Surround Sound System from Burmester®, the bespoke manufacturer based in Berlin and one of the most respected premium audio manufacturers worldwide. With a total output of 821 watts, it ensures an incredible audio experience.
Our patented integral subwoofer enhances the bass performance of both optional sound systems and also saves weight. Typically Porsche.
Ergonomics, style and sound. Sports car technology, intelligently combined.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is fitted as standard for the new 911 models. Powerful, multifunctional and easy to use, PCM is your control centre for audio, navigation and communication functions.
The main feature is the intuitive 7-inch touchscreen. Alternatively, you can choose to operate PCM using conventional rotary pushbutton controls. With a maximum of five list items per page, the screen display is very clearly presented. A useful help function is displayed at the foot of the screen.
Radio functions include up to 42 memory presets and an FM dual tuner frequency diversity with RDS, which continuously scans in the background for the best signal, and a dynamic autostore.
The DVD-audio drive plays CDs and audio DVDs and is MP3-compatible. Audio playback of video DVDs is also supported. A six-disc CD/DVD autochanger integrated into PCM is available as an option.
A navigation module with high-speed hard drive is included with PCM. For route guidance, it is possible to select between a 2D display and a 3D perspective. In some regions, even land and buildings can be displayed in 3D. Split screen mode enables you to view two functions at once, such as the current navigation map and a list of symbols that represent the next driving manoeuvre.

Voice control system
If you require route guidance, need to make a phone call or want to listen to the radio, then why not just say so? Almost all of the functions of PCM can be controlled using the optional voice control system with word-by-word input. In the majority of cases, you can simply say the name of the menu item as seen on the screen. Even lists can be browsed by voice command. For added convenience, there is no need to ‘train’ the system.

Electronic logbook
An electronic logbook is available for PCM as an option. It enables automatic logging on every journey of mileage, route distance, date, time, starting location and destination. Data can be downloaded to a USB stick and evaluated on your home PC using the software supplied. The software fulfils all statutory requirements for automatic logbooks as specified by the German revenue authorities.

Telephone module
Hands-free operation with Bluetooth is standard on the new 911 models. Depending on the mobile phone model, this gives access not only to the numbers on the SIM card, but also to the phone’s internal memory. Depending on the phone, it can also be controlled using PCM, the optional multifunction steering wheel or the optional voice control system, without it ever leaving your pocket.
The telephone module also enables you to establish a Bluetooth® link with those mobile phones that only support the Handsfree Profile (HFP). In this case, the GSM connection is always established through the aerial of the mobile phone. PCM acts as a hands-free system and you can leave the mobile phone tucked away.
On request, a cordless handset for the telephone module is also available. Stored in the centre console, it features a display and keypad. However, the handset cannot be used for Bluetooth® links established using the Handsfree Profile (HFP).

Steering wheels

Sports steering wheel
The sports steering wheel is fitted as standard and adjusts up to 40 mm for height and up to 60 mm for reach.
The optional multifunction steering wheel has four function buttons and two thumbwheels for convenient operation of audio, telephone and navigation functions, TFT display and on-board computer. On request, the steering wheel is available in smooth-finish leather, carbon or mahogany.
In conjunction with PDK, the steering wheels are equipped with two ergonomic gearshift switches enabling you to change gear directly from the steering wheel. With the optional Sport Chrono Package, the steering wheel also features a display above the airbag module to inform you whether the SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control functions have been activated.

SportDesign steering wheel
As with the sports steering wheel, the optional SportDesign steering wheel is adjustable for both height and reach and, thanks to its grip mouldings, it’s in safe hands – even on the sportiest of drives.
In conjunction with PDK, the steering wheel features two gearshift paddles. These are made from a strong alloy and are ergonomically located behind the left- and right-hand steering wheel spokes. Pull the right-hand paddle and PDK shifts up. Pull the left-hand paddle and PDK shifts down. When PDK has been combined with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the left- and right-hand spokes additionally feature a display that tells you whether the SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control functions have been activated.

Steering wheel heating
For increased comfort on cold days, steering wheel heating is available as an option for the sports steering wheel and multifunction steering wheels (only in conjunction with seat heating). The heating is operated by a button on the rear of the lower steering wheel spoke.

Instruments

Sporty not kitsch, practical not fanciful. The five circular instruments have one purpose above all: to provide information. They do so efficiently and accurately. Their styling is typically Porsche with the rev counter exactly where you would expect it to be: in the middle.
The instrument cluster is new with a high-resolution 4.6-inch TFT colour screen. It provides you with a continuous stream of data from the on-board computer, such as speed, trip mileage, journey time or current fuel consumption. It also displays the navigation system map, delivers various warnings, including alerts from the Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM) system, and reminds you of your selected communication and audio settings.
In the 911, there is a point at which all forces come together. The steering wheel is the most important interface between the driver and the sportscar. This is why all available steering wheels feature a high-grip steering wheel rim in smooth-finish leather and offer outstanding ergonomics. A full-size airbag is integrated as standard.

Seats

Sports seats
The Sports seats in partial leather are comfortable and provide support even during performance driving. They are equipped as standard with electric seat height and backrest adjustment and mechanical fore/aft adjustment.

Sports seats Plus
Available as an option are Sports seats Plus in leather with electric seat height and backrest adjustment as well as mechanical fore/aft adjustment. The side bolsters on the squab and backrest have a firmer, sportier padding and offer even better lateral support. The backrest shell is finished in Silver Grey.

Fully electric Sports seats
If you don’t want to sacrifice sportiness for comfort, the optional fully electric Sports seats offer fully electric adjustment of seat height, backrest angle, squab angle, squab depth, fore/aft position, 4-way lumbar support and even the steering column.
The integrated memory package supports the exterior mirrors and all seat positions on the driver’s side as well as settings for the steering wheel, lights, wipers, air conditioning, door locks, optional PCM, and instrument cluster.

Adaptive Sports seats Plus
The optional adaptive Sports seats Plus are the ideal combination of sport and comfort. Finished in leather and with side bolsters having a firm, sporty padding, they also feature shoulder supports for the best possible hold.
Offering 18-way electric adjustment, the seats can be optimally adapted to meet your needs in terms of seat height, squab and backrest angle, squab length, fore/aft adjustment and 4-way lumbar support. The steering column is also electrically adjustable.
In addition, the side bolsters on the seat squab and backrest are independently adjustable for added comfort on long journeys and precision lateral support on winding roads. Also included is the personal memory for all seat positions (apart from the side bolsters) and lumbar support on the driver’s side as well as the positions of the steering wheel and exterior mirrors. The memory function also supports settings for the steering wheel, lights, wipers, air conditioning, door locks, optional PCM, and instrument cluster.

Seat heating and ventilation
Seat heating is available as an option for all seats. Seats are heated in the squab, the backrest and, for the front seats, the side bolsters.
In conjunction with seat heating, we can equip the seats with seat ventilation on request. A slipstream effect is produced by active ventilation of the perforated seat centre and backrest and by passive aeration at the side bolsters. This evaporates perspiration moisture and therefore makes for a dry and pleasant seating environment, even in hot weather.

Rear seats
The rear seats are remarkably comfortable for a sportscar and the shelf behind offers additional storage space. With the backrests folded down, the luggage compartment volume in the 911 Coupé models increases to 205 litres and, with a capacity of 155 litres available, the 911 Cabriolet models offer plenty of space for luggage, too.

Child seats
ISOFIX child seat preparation including top tether is available on the rear seats as standard. On request, we can equip the front passenger seat with ISOFIX child seat preparation and integrate an airbag deactivation feature.

Climate control

The new 911 models feature two-zone automatic climate control as standard with an enhanced ventilation effect and separate temperature controls for the driver and front passenger. The available air conditioning modes are gentle, normal and strong.
An active carbon filter traps particles, pollen and odours and an automatic air-recirculation function permanently monitors air quality, reduces humidity and switches from fresh to recirculated air when required.
A demister function keeps the windows clear in cold weather. In warmer weather, a solar sensor helps the climate control to detect strong sunlight and automatically compensate for the comfort of both the driver and front passenger.

Electrically-powered wind deflector

Once again, our engineers have explored new directions, this time in the wind tunnel. The new 911 Carrera Cabriolet models are equipped as standard with an electrically-powered wind deflector, which offers practically draught-free driving and minimal wind noise with the top down.
With the 911, fitting and removing the wind deflector is now a thing of the past because it is integrated directly into the body behind the rear seats. As a result, it doesn’t take up any extra space in the interior or luggage compartment and it is ready for use at all times.
For unrestricted open-top driving pleasure, the wind deflector extends or retracts in only 2.0 seconds no matter how fast you are driving.

Design

The design of the Cayman models is befitting of their distinctive, sporty character.
Their performance potential is obvious at first sight, for these are true specimens of force and athleticism. Individual styling features help to define both vehicles so impressively.
A constant interaction of convex and concave curves. A certain style, like no other. Immediately, the front displays the kind of character that you expect to find in the Cayman models. The front end has been restyled with enlarged air intakes that hint at the performance within.
The contouring of the front apron gives the car an even more purposeful appearance. The front spoiler lip has been enlarged, further reducing lift at the front axle.
The front wings with their integrated headlights give the Cayman models a distinctively sporty look.
Both models are equipped as standard with halogen headlights, LED position lights and front fog lights integrated into the outer air intakes. Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights, including LED daytime running lights, are available on request.
Follow the car’s clean lines along the side towards the rear, past the newly styled and enlarged exterior mirrors, where the impressive design continues. The styling is emphasised by the distinctly pronounced curves of the front and rear wings and the shape of the doors.
Typically for a coupé, there is a gradual, flowing transition from the A-pillar to the rear. The sharper contour of the side skirts directs the air stream down to the side air intakes which are designed to facilitate considerable through-flow. The rear section of the side windows curves dynamically upwards. Extending beyond the side windows are two additional lines that direct attention towards the rear end. One of these lines continues to frame the large rear screen.
The second line continues its rearward path to the LED taillight module. The elegant, extendable rear wing further reduces lift at the rear axle.
Below, you cannot miss the visible hallmark of the characteristic Porsche sound: the stainless steel tailpipe – twin tailpipe on the Cayman S – integrated into the rear end.
The unmistakable styling of the Cayman models is complemented by the new wheel design. The Cayman is fitted with 17-inch wheels as standard, the Cayman S with 18-inch wheels. A 19-inch option is available for both models.
The result of all of these measures? A unique appearance and refined aerodynamics with a low drag coefficient of only 0.29.
The Cayman models. Even more sophisticated, even more dynamic, and when it comes to style, they trust in only one direction: their own.

Character

To accept no compromises, to make conscious decisions, to be governed by nothing other than one’s own free will, and to have a clear point of view. A highly promising way to build a sportscar. For us, it’s the only way.
It is from this philosophy that we developed the mid-mounted engine with a 3.4-litre capacity and direct fuel injection (DFI). The engine delivers a power output of 235 kW (320 hp) at 7,200 rpm, and a maximum torque of 370 Nm is achieved at 4,750 rpm. It has been possible to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15% and CO2 emissions by up to 16%, depending on the type of gearbox.
The Cayman S reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.2 seconds. Top speed isn’t reached until 172 mph (277 km/h). Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is available as an option. The fastest rate of acceleration of 4.9 seconds is achieved in conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package.
In addition to having a higher power output, the Cayman S also differs from the Cayman in its appearance. It has a front spoiler painted in the vehicle’s exterior colour, and a twin tailpipe in stainless steel. The sound? Distinctive. In keeping with the rest of the Cayman S.
But so much power also needs to be tamed. This is the task of the optimised brake system with four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers in a striking red painted finish.
To deliver the increased power output to the road, the Cayman S is fitted with 18-inch Cayman S II wheels. Their new design exudes pure dynamism – as befits the model’s overall look.

Drive

Performance

Both Cayman models are equipped with brand new engine developments, but have retained the familiar layout: six horizontally opposed cylinders.
The 2.9-litre engine of the Cayman delivers 195 kW (265 hp) at an engine speed of 7,200 rpm. The maximum torque of 300 Nm is achieved between 4,400 and 6,000 rpm.
The engine of the Cayman S has a 3.4-litre capacity and, for the first time, direct fuel injection (DFI). Power output is 235 kW (320 hp) at 7,200 rpm. Maximum torque: 370 Nm at 4,750 rpm.
Each of the engines convinces with its outstanding performance figures, extremely smooth running, optimised gas cycles and tremendous cornering agility, with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions reduced by up to 15% and 16%, depending on the model.
All of this is achieved by DFI (in the Cayman S), a lightweight construction and a host of other engineering advancements, e.g. VarioCam Plus. This system increases torque in the lower engine speed range and power output in the upper engine speed range. Injection and ignition are controlled by the engine electronics. The driver regulates engine power – and of course sound – using the extremely sensitive electronic accelerator pedal.

Porsche Doppelkupplung

The optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), with both manual gearshift and an automatic mode, enables smooth gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power. This results in significantly faster acceleration and lower fuel consumption, without having to sacrifice the ease of automatic transmission.
In total, PDK has seven gears at its disposal. Gears 1 to 6 have a sports ratio and top speed is reached in 6th gear. The 7th gear has a long ratio and helps to reduce fuel consumption even further.
PDK is essentially two half gearboxes in one and thus requires two clutches – designed as a double wet clutch transmission.
This double clutch provides an alternating, non-positive connection between the two half gearboxes and the engine by means of two separate input shafts (input shaft 1 is nested inside the hollowed-out input shaft 2).
The flow of power from the engine is only ever transmitted through one half gearbox and one clutch at a time, while the next gear is preselected in the second half gearbox. During a gear change, therefore, a conventional shift no longer takes place. Instead, one clutch simply opens and the other closes at the same time. Gear changes can therefore take place within milliseconds.
Clutch 1 controls the first half gearbox, which contains the odd gears (1, 3, 5, 7) and reverse. Clutch 2 controls the second, which contains the even gears (2, 4, 6).

Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) in detail
The crankshaft transmits engine torque to the dual-mass flywheel which is then channelled through the clutch housing and onto the multi-plate clutches, or to be more precise, the outer disc carrier.
Under oil pressure, clutch 1 closes and forms a frictional connection with input shaft 1. The torque is now transmitted through the differential to the rear axle.
At this stage, PDK has already preselected the next gear. Engine torque is already acting on the other outer disc carrier and, in response to a gear change signal, the overlap shift is initiated, i.e. as clutch 1 opens, clutch 2 closes. The non-positive connection with input shaft 2 is established, and power is transmitted to the wheels. The gear which is engaged is displayed on the instrument cluster. Depending on the gearshift programme, the gear change is optimised for comfort or for sporty handling and takes place in a matter of milliseconds.
The advantages over a fully manual transmission are very rapid gearshifts with no interruption in the flow of power, which result in a considerably faster rate of acceleration for the same rate of fuel consumption. The advantage over a fully automatic transmission is the perceptible increase in driving dynamics – with a similar level of comfort, and a distinct reduction in fuel consumption.
The compact dimensions of the gearbox reduce rotational masses which means a more direct engine response, and the system is more lightweight.
This, along with the long-ratioed 7th gear, helps to achieve reduced fuel consumption and emission figures comparable with those of a manual gearbox.
With the optional Sport Chrono Package, PDK is enhanced by the ‘Launch Control’ and ‘motorsport-derived gearshift strategy’ functions.
In essence, PDK combines sportiness with efficiency and comfort. What does all this mean for you? Exactly what you would expect: uninterrupted driving pleasure.

Sports steering wheel
In conjunction with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the standard sports steering wheel has two ergonomic switches.
One press with the thumb and PDK shifts up. One pull with the index finger and PDK shifts down. When combined with one of the optional Sport Chrono Packages, there is an additional display above the airbag module. It tells you whether the SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control functions are activated.

SportDesign steering wheel
Visually, this steering wheel is distinguished by its high-quality twinspoke design and silver-coloured galvanised spoke cover. The airbag module is finished in the same colour as the steering wheel rim.
This optional steering wheel allows you to make motorsport-style gear changes. In conjunction with the optional PDK, the SportDesign steering wheel features two alloy shift paddles ergonomically located behind the steering wheel spokes. Pull the right-hand paddle and the PDK shifts up. Pull the left-hand paddle and the PDK shifts down.
A display on the left and right steering wheel spokes tells you whether the SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control functions of the optional Sport Chrono Package are activated. Another feature reminiscent of the world of motorsport is the top centre marking on the steering wheel rim.
Gear selector for Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
The gear selector for PDK impresses not only with its unique design, but above all with its superior functionality enabling you to change gear manually: press forwards to shift up, pull backwards to shift down.
Even if the gear selector is set to automatic mode, you can still change gear manually using the switches on the steering wheel.

Engine management

The electronic engine management system ensures optimum engine performance at all times. It regulates all engine-related functions and assemblies (see diagram). The results: optimum performance and torque with reduced fuel consumption and emissions.
Another important function of the system is cylinder-specific knock control. Since the six cylinders never all work under exactly the same conditions, they are monitored individually by the knock control. The ignition point is shifted individually, as and when necessary. This prevents damage to a cylinder or piston at high engine speeds and loads. The on-board diagnostics, which are compliant with European standards, ensure timely detection of any faults and defects that may occur in the exhaust and fuel systems and notify the driver immediately. This also prevents increased pollutant emissions and unnecessary fuel consumption.

Exhaust system

The exhaust system – with twin tailpipes on the Cayman S – is made of stainless steel. Until it converges in the connecting tube, the exhaust gas is channelled through two separate tracts and, thanks to separate exhaust gas cleaning systems, the exhaust gas can flow more freely – for increased power and torque.
The stereo lambda control circuitry controls and monitors each cylinder bank separately. For each exhaust tract, four corresponding oxygen sensors regulate the composition of the exhaust gas and monitor the conversion of pollutants in the catalytic converters.
A sports exhaust system – for a more resonant sound – is available as an option for each of the Cayman models.

Manual gearbox

Fitted as standard in each of the Cayman models is a six-speed manual gearbox. The shift throw is short and precise, the tuning is sporty – as befits the character of the Cayman models. The dual-mass flywheel minimises engine noise and the control cable mechanism prevents vibrations from being transmitted to the gear lever.

Chassis

Sport Chrono Package Plus

Do you think driving a Porsche should be an even more involving experience than it is already? Your wish is our command. On request, we can equip your vehicle with the Sport Chrono Package, which is available for both of the Cayman models. Its functions enable even sportier tuning of the engine and chassis and guarantee even more driving pleasure.
Selecting the SPORT button on the centre console activates ‘Sport’ mode, which makes throttle response significantly more immediate, adjusts the rev-limiter to a harder setting, and tunes the engine dynamics for performance driving.
The optional Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) also switches to ‘Sport’ mode, which offers harder damping and more direct steering and, therefore, better road holding.
With the optional PDK in automatic mode, gearshift points are delayed until the upper rev range. The shift times are shorter, the gear changes sportier. At low rates of deceleration, the system initiates a swifter, brake-induced downshift. In manual mode, gear changes are faster and more dynamic. In ‘Sport’ mode, the PSM system intervenes later for increased longitudinal and lateral dynamics. PSM now affords greater manoeuvrability under braking and exit acceleration, especially at low speeds.
For maximum dexterity, PSM can be set to standby while the car is still in ‘Sport’ mode. For safety, it is set to intervene automatically only when ABS assistance is required on both front wheels.
A key component of the Sport Chrono Package is the swivelmounted stopwatch in the centre of the dashboard with analogue and digital display.
In combination with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the Sport Chrono Package offers two additional functions that are activated by the SPORT PLUS button.
First, ‘Launch Control’, which ensures you achieve the fastest possible rate of acceleration from a standing start – on the racetrack, for example. ‘Launch Control’ is operated via the SPORT PLUS button with the ‘D’ or ‘M’ drive position selected. Whilst the driver depresses the brake pedal with the left foot, the right foot depresses the accelerator pedal to the floor. With the accelerator in the kickdown position, the system detects the driver’s request for Launch Mode and revs the engine to an optimum speed of approximately 6,500 rpm. Engine torque increases and the clutch closes slightly. The message ‘Launch Control’ appears on the display on the steering wheels for PDK. The driver now quickly releases the brake – and prepares for maximum acceleration. Second, the ‘motorsport-derived gearshift strategy’. Using this, PDK is geared up for maximum shift speed, the shortest possible shift times and optimum shift points for maximum acceleration – for uncompromising performance.

Sport Chrono Package Plus
On request, the optional Porsche Communication Management can be combined with the Sport Chrono Package Plus. In addition to the functions of the Sport Chrono Package, it includes a personal memory function, which can be controlled using PCM, and a performance display for evaluating lap times.

Steering

What use is a perfect suspension setup without perfectly tuned steering? For Porsche, this would be inconceivable. The solution is a steering system that works with as much precision and immediacy as the chassis itself and, thanks to the power assistance, steering effort is reduced to a comfortable level. Around the straight ahead position, such as during motorway driving, the ratio is less direct with no loss of agility or feedback. The greater the steering angle, the more direct the steering ratio. This is particularly noticeable through tight bends and when parking and provides a high level of active safety and a more immediate driving response. The car has a turning circle of just 11.1 m. The steering wheel also adjusts for height and reach.

Wheels + TPM

Wheels
The Cayman is fitted with 17-inch wheels as standard. The star-shaped design expresses sheer sportiness and allows an eye-catching view of the brake calipers. The Cayman S is fitted with large, 18-inch wheels as standard and the turbine-like arrangement of the spokes gives the car an extremely powerful look. 19-inch wheels are available for both models on request. All available wheels are equipped with anti-theft protection.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM)
The optional Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM) sends warnings to the on-board computer’s display screen in the event of low tyre pressure. The driver can check the pressure in all four tyres from the instrument cluster. The system updates quickly and accurately after an engine start, tyre pressure correction or wheel change – for increased comfort and safety.

Safety

Dynamic cornering lights

Available as an option for the Cayman models are Bi-Xenon headlights including dynamic cornering lights and LED daytime running lights. Bi-Xenon headlights are around twice as powerful as halogen headlights so they offer improved visibility and they illuminate the road more evenly. In fact, they are so effective that fog lights are no longer necessary. A headlight cleaning system is built-in.
New dynamic cornering lights offer particularly effective illumination of the road ahead, particularly through bends. Sensors continuously monitor the speed, lateral acceleration and steering lock and, from these variables, calculate the course of the bend. This determines the angle of the dynamic cornering lights, with the lights able to swivel towards the inside of the bend up to a limit of 15 degrees, even with main beam switched on.

Airbags

Each of the full-size airbags is inflated in two stages, depending on the severity of an accident. In less serious accidents, the airbags are only partially inflated, thereby minimising discomfort for the occupants. Also fitted as standard is Porsche Side Impact Protection (POSIP).
It comprises side impact protection elements in the doors and two airbags on each side. An integral thorax airbag is located in the seat backrests, while the door panels each contain a head airbag. With each having a volume of approximately 8 litres, these airbags offer excellent protection in the event of a side impact.
Other passive safety features include head restraints integrated into the seat backrests, an energy absorbing steering column, three-point seat belts, front seat-belt pretensioners and force limiters, energy-absorbing elements in the dashboard and flame-resistant materials throughout the interior.

Braking system

The acceleration of the Cayman models is impressive. Even more impressive, perhaps, is the vehicle’s maximum braking power, which comfortably tames the power of the engine.
Four-piston aluminium monobloc brake calipers are fitted front and rear. Offering excellent rigidity, they are compact and save on weight. Their superior responsiveness, for fast and sensitive braking, sets them apart. A brake booster provides assistance, reducing pedal effort whilst maintaining a powerful braking effect.
A special ventilation system, whereby the entire wheel brake is supplied with cooling air by openings in the front end and special channelling systems, increases the stability of the brakes during heavy use.
For the Cayman models, the braking system has been modified to cope with the increased engine power. Just like the Cayman S, the front axle of the Cayman features internally vented brake discs with a diameter of 318 mm. On both models, 299 mm brake discs are fitted to the rear axle. The brake pads have also been optimised for improved braking performance. The rear brake discs of the Cayman S are 4 mm thicker than those of the Cayman, which increases stability under load even further. To distinguish them visually, the brake calipers on the Cayman have a black anodised finish while those on the Cayman S are painted red.
For reduced weight, optimum braking in the wet and improved cooling, the brake discs on both models are cross-drilled.
For the Cayman S, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is available as an option.

Comfort

Seats

Standard seats
The standard seats with centre upholstered in Alcantara offer a high degree of comfort with good lateral support and optimised under-seat suspension. Through bends, your seat gives you a feeling of security without restriction. The seats are equipped as standard with manual height and fore/aft adjustment and an electric backrest adjustment, enabling virtually every driver to find the ideal seat position, regardless of physical build.

Comfort seats with driver memory
Comfort seats with electric fore/ aft, height, backrest and lumbar support adjustment are available as an option. The tilt angle of the seat squab is also electrically adjustable. The memory function supports the exterior mirrors and all seat positions on the driver’s side. Using the control switches in the door panel, it is possible to restore one of two personalised settings. Additionally, you can store a further seat position in each of the ignition keys. As soon as you unlock the door using the key remote, the driver’s seat and exterior mirrors resume their stored position.

Sports seats
The optional sports seats have firmer leather upholstery than the standard design. Higher side bolsters on the seat squab and backrest provide additional lateral support. The seat height and fore/ aft position is adjusted manually, the backrest electrically.
Adaptive sports seats with driver memory
The optional adaptive sports seats in leather combine excellent comfort with first-rate track performance.
Along with all the adjustment features of the comfort seats, the side bolsters on the seat surface and backrest are individually electrically adjustable, for increased comfort on long journeys and tailor-made lateral support through bends or on the racetrack. The memory function supports the exterior mirrors and all driver’s seat positions, apart from the side bolsters.

Sports bucket seats
For the ultimate sports experience, you could opt for sports bucket seats with a folding backrest, integral thorax airbag and manual fore/aft adjustment. The backrest shell is made from glass/carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic and has a stylish carbon-weave finish. The backrest pivots are positioned high in the side bolsters to provide lateral support to the pelvic region characteristic of a race seat. The seat upholstery is offered in all available leather types and colours.

Seat heating and ventilation
As an option, all compatible seats – apart from sports bucket seats – can be equipped with two-level seat heating.
Seat ventilation for the standard seats and comfort seats is also available as an option (only in conjunction with heated seats, climate control and part or full-leather interior). A slipstream effect evaporates perspiration moisture – for a comfortable seating environment. Ventilation intensity can be set to one of three levels.

Porsche Communication Management

As the central control unit for audio, navigation and communications, the optional PCM is multifunctional and ergonomic to operate.
The main feature is the 6.5-inch colour touchscreen with a durable, easy-to-clean coating. Functional, innovative and easy to use, you will find the display very clearly presented and a maximum of five list entries per page enable you to operate the unit quickly and safely. Alternatively, you can choose to operate the PCM using the rotary pushbutton on the right.
Radio functions include up to 42 memory presets and an FM dual tuner frequency diversity with RDS, which continuously scans in the background for the best signal. The integrated single CD/DVD drive supports the MP3 format and – in combination with the optional BOSE® Surround Sound System – is able to play back music from audio and video DVDs in 5.1 digital format. An integrated six-disc CD/DVD autochanger with MP3 playback is also available as an option for PCM.

Navigation module for PCM
The GPS navigation system included with the optional PCM has an internal hard drive containing maps for most European countries. A touchscreen enables rapid destination input and instant viewing of traffic information and points of interest (POIs) by simply allowing you to touch the symbols on the map. Route diversions, e.g. the nearest service stations, can therefore be incorporated quickly and easily into the current route guidance.
When viewing a map, it is possible to select between a 3D perspective and the 2D display. At motorway exits, graphical turn indications are displayed for better orientation. In splitscreen mode, you can choose to display not only the current map overview, but also a list of icons that represent dynamic route guidance.

Electronic logbook for PCM
The optional electronic logbook enables automatic recording of relevant driving data. Once you have downloaded the logbooks via Bluetooth® or the optional USB interface, you can evaluate them on your home PC using the software supplied (software complies with all statutory requirements for automatic logbooks as specified by the German revenue authorities).

TV tuner for PCM
The TV tuner, available on request, is capable of receiving free-to-air analogue and digital television broadcasts (DVB-T) to provide entertainment between journeys. For your safety, the TV picture is switched off while the car is in motion.

Voice control system for PCM
Almost all of the functions of PCM can be controlled using the optional voice control system with word-by-word input. The menu item is read aloud exactly as it is displayed on the screen and the voice control system recognises commands or sequences of numbers, whoever the speaker. It then gives an audible acknowledgement and carries out the functions you request. There is no need to ‘train’ the system.

Instruments

Each black circular dial in the instrument cluster – aluminium-coloured in the Cayman S model – provides important information at a glance. In the centre is the analogue rev counter with digital speedometer and a customisable display of key data from the standard on-board computer. Additional data, such as average fuel consumption, fuel range or the data of the optional TPM can be shown as desired. The right-hand dial displays a range of information, including the outside temperature and shift pattern of the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), as well as the selected gear. The dial on the left contains the analogue speedometer with digital trip meter and total distance display. The design and legibility of the dials are also enhanced by the white backlight illumination.

Steering wheels

The Cayman models feature as standard a sports steering wheel with full-size airbag. The steering wheel is adjustable for height and reach and the rim is in smooth- finish leather. As an option, you can specify a multifunction steering wheel in leather with integrated buttons for the most essential audio and, where applicable, navigation and telephone functions. Alternatively, the multifunction steering wheel is available in smooth-finish leather, Aluminium Look, carbon or macassar wood.
Fitted as standard in conjunction with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is the sports steering wheel with gearshift switches. A multifunction version of this steering wheel is offered as an option. Also available as an option is the SportDesign steering wheel with gearshift paddles.
For extra comfort on those cold days, steering wheel heating is also available on request for all steering wheels (available only in conjunction with seat heating).

CDR-30 CD radio

Both Cayman models are equipped as standard with the CDR-30 audio system with 5-inch display (monochrome) and an MP3-compatible CD drive. An integrated six-disc CD/DVD autochanger is available as an option.
The FM dual tuner with RDS diversity, a total of 30 memory presets, dynamic autostore and speed-sensitive volume control are, as usual, all part of the standard package. Just like the high-quality sound, which is delivered by two high-range speakers in the dashboard, two low/mid-range speakers in the door trims and two 25-watt output stages.
For an even more impressive sound experience, you could opt for the Sound Package Plus or BOSE® Surround Sound System.
Controlling the CDR-30 could not be more simple: the function keys ensure that all the main functions are directly at your fingertips, and it is now possible to conveniently control all of the most important functions using the buttons on the optional multifunction steering wheel.

Exterior design

As you can see, we didn’t experiment with the car’s design. We stuck with our philosophy that form should follow function. Nothing else would have made sense. Nothing else would have produced a four-seater Porsche.
How can you tell whether it has the Porsche DNA? From the distinctive proportions and lines. The wings are slightly higher than the bonnet and, at the rear, they are distinctly muscular and form the typical Porsche shoulder line. The silhouette of the Panamera models is therefore typically Porsche. It is dynamic without being overbearing, and exudes elegance rather than extravagance. In its class, the total length of less than five metres is to its advantage.
The front, shoulders and rear all have instantly recognisable Porsche traits. Particularly striking are the side air outlets behind the front wheels – paying homage to the Carrera GT.
A low, wide stance. A sleek roofline. The overall impression leaves you in no doubt that these are true sportscar proportions. Typically Porsche.
The most striking aspect of the rear is undoubtedly the spoiler which is integrated into the rear lid. From a speed of around 90 kph, it deploys automatically, as you may already have suspected. However, on the Panamera Turbo models, it doesn’t stop there. The spoiler splits in the middle and extensions deploy to the left and right, making it considerably wider to further reduce lift at the rear axle.
The wheels are of classic sportscar design: fine-spoked, lightweight, and stylish. Sizes range from 18 inches to 20 inches, and all the wheels provide a good glimpse of the brake system. Just another example of sporty styling.
The appearance of all models can be customised to your individual taste. The colour palette offers no fewer than 16 exterior colours. In total, there are two solid, nine metallic and five special colours to choose from. An additional metallic colour – Agate Grey Metallic – is available for the Panamera Turbo S. On request, you can opt to have your Panamera model finished in practically any colour of your choice. In addition, a wide range of personalisation options is available.
So you see, whichever way you look at it, it looks like a Porsche and, most importantly, it feels like one too.

Interior design

Whatever kind of journey you are making – short or long, for business or pleasure, or even just routine driving – the Panamera offers something a little bit different.
When you sit inside one of the Panamera models, four things immediately stand out: first, the elevated centre console; second, the four individual seats; third, the amount of space in the rear where taller passengers will find plenty of leg and head room; and fourth, the versatility of the luggage compartment thanks to the folding rear seats.
The ignition lock is located on the left-hand side of the steering wheel. The instrument cluster incorporating the central rev counter is clear and quick to read.
The four individual seats are comfortable and offer good lateral support. In conjunction with seat heating, a seat ventilation function is also available as an option. The electrically adjustable 8-way power seats in the rear are another special feature available on request.
Why four individual seats? Only these satisfy our requirement for high performance driving and a high level of seating comfort. Conventional rear bench seats cannot fulfil this requirement and instead made way for a centre console.
If you regularly spend time as a passenger in the back, you can customise your surroundings with a range of optional equipment and packages, such as the large centre console, the roll-up sunblinds for the rear side windows and behind the rear compartment, or the rear interior lighting package.
The preserve of the premium class: the comprehensive range of personalisation options, with seven interior colours, five two-tone combinations and two additional two-tone combinations exclusively for the Panamera Turbo S. Plus a range of optional interior packages featuring fine woods, carbon or aluminium.
If you suspected that the Panamera is more than just a sportscar with four seats, this is confirmed by a glance inside the luggage compartment. Under the large rear lid, there is space to accommodate four suitcases from the Porsche Design Driver’s Selection. Enough room, then, for a journey with four occupants.

Drive

8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox

Standard on the Panamera Diesel and Panamera S Hybrid is the eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox with a wide spread of gears. This not only results in fuel savings, but also improves comfort because, particularly on the motorway, the low engine speeds in the higher gears reduce the noise level in the interior.
As the driver, you can also influence the shift behaviour of the eight-speed Tiptronic S by deliberate use of the accelerator and brake pedals. Dynamic driving leads to more dynamic gear changes and a restrained, careful driving style leads to economic shifts. You can, of course, also change gear manually using either the two ergonomic sliding switches on the sports steering wheel or the gear selector. Push forward and the Tiptronic S shifts up. Pull back and it shifts down.

Direct fuel injection (DFI)

With millisecond precision, DFI injects fuel at up to 120 bar directly into the combustion chamber by means of electromagnetically actuated injection valves.
The spray and cone angles have been optimised for torque, power output, fuel consumption and emissions by enabling a homogeneous distribution of the air/fuel mixture, and, therefore, effective combustion. DFI improves the internal cooling of the combustion engine by having the mixture prepared directly in the cylinder. This allows for a higher compression ratio, which helps to deliver more output at the same time as enhanced engine efficiency.

Exhaust system

Lightweight exhaust system
The exhaust system is made from selected long-life stainless steel. The powerful primary and main catalytic converters heat up rapidly for effective emissions control.
The exhaust system of the Panamera Turbo models switches between two configurations automatically: low noise at lower revs and engine loads, and increased throughput at high revs under maximum engine load.

Sports exhaust system
Standard on the Panamera Turbo S is a sports exhaust system with two twin tailpipes in a special Turbo design. Available as an option for the Panamera, Panamera 4, Panamera S, Panamera 4S and Panamera Turbo is a sports exhaust system featuring distinctive tailpipe covers. Activated by a separate button, the sports exhaust system produces an even more authentic sportscar sound.

Chassis

Sport Chrono Package Plus

Providing the Panamera models with a sportier setup is the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus (available only in conjunction with Porsche Communication Management – PCM). For the Panamera Turbo, there is the optional Sport Chrono Package Turbo (standard on the Panamera Turbo S).
Included in the package are a digital and analogue stopwatch, the SPORT PLUS button, and a performance display in the PCM for displaying lap times.
When the SPORT PLUS button on the centre console is selected, the engine management system adapts the engine for a sharper response. The rev limiter is adjusted to a harder setting with the V6 and V8 petrol engines (not on the Panamera Diesel and Panamera S Hybrid).
Vehicles with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) switch to SPORT PLUS mode for harder damping and more direct steering. Panamera models with adaptive air suspension lower the chassis to Low Level and switch to a stiffer spring rate.
In ‘SPORT PLUS’ mode, the trigger threshold for PSM is raised for increased longitudinal and lateral dynamics. Agility is enhanced when braking for corners with PSM enabling greater manoeuvrability under braking and exit acceleration, especially at low speeds.
For maximum dexterity, PSM can be set to standby while the car is still in ‘SPORT PLUS’ mode. For safety, it is set to intervene automatically only when ABS assistance is required on both of the front wheels.
The stopwatch mounted on the dashboard displays recorded driving time in hours, minutes and seconds. Seconds, tenths and hundredths of a second appear on a display screen. Alternatively, the stopwatch can be used as a conventional clock. Porsche Communication Management (PCM) has a special performance display to view, store and evaluate lap times or other driving times. It shows the total driving time, lap distance, lap number and lap times recorded so far. You can view the current fastest lap and the remaining range until empty. It is also useful away from the racetrack. Evaluate your daily mileage or define benchmark times – and rediscover your old routes.
When combined with PDK, the Sport Chrono Package Plus has two additional functions.
The shift times in ‘SPORT PLUS’ mode are shorter, the gear changes sportier. In automatic mode and at low rates of deceleration – even with high engine speeds – the system initiates a swifter brake induced downshift. In manual mode, gear changes are faster, more dynamic and more direct.
The second function is Launch Control which is designed to produce optimum acceleration from a standing start. This function is operated via the SPORT PLUS button with the ‘D’ or ‘M’ drive position selected. With the left foot depressing the brake pedal, the driver fully depresses the accelerator for maximum throttle. The engine is revved to an optimum speed of around 5,500 rpm and the clutch is held in slight contact.
The message ‘Launch Control’ appears in the PDK display of the sports steering wheel, the multifunction steering wheel or the optional SportDesign steering wheel. Now, the driver simply releases the brake pedal, and prepares for maximum acceleration.

Steering and Servotronic

Precise and direct: describes a typical Porsche steering system – with variable steering ratio. Around the straight ahead position, such as during motorway driving, the ratio is less direct with no loss of agility or feedback from the road. When the steering wheel is turned further, the ratio becomes more direct, allowing easier cornering and parking.
Standard on the Panamera S Hybrid and Panamera Turbo S and optional for all other Panamera models is Servotronic, a speed-sensitive power-steering system. At high speeds, the steering is firm and responds with extreme precision while steering comfort remains as high as you would expect. At low speeds, Servotronic’s ratio adjusts for easy manoeuvring and parking.

Wheels and TPM

The Panamera, Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel are fitted as standard with 18-inch Panamera wheels, the Panamera S, 4S and Panamera S Hybrid with 18-inch Panamera S wheels. All wheels are lightweight alloys featuring a classic sporty design. Tyre sizes 245/50 ZR 18 and 275/45 ZR 18 are fitted to the front and rear, respectively.
The Panamera Turbo is equipped with 19-inch Panamera Turbo alloy wheels as standard. The tyre sizes are 255/45 ZR 19 at the front, 285/40 ZR 19 at the rear.
The new Panamera Turbo S is equipped with 20-inch 911 Turbo II wheels fitted with 255/40 ZR 20 tyres at the front and 295/35 ZR 20 tyres at the rear.
A selection of other 19-inch and 20-inch wheels is available from our range of options.
All-season tyres are available for all models with standard or optional 19-inch wheels. A low-rolling resistance version of these tyres is available as an option. On this tyre, the rubber compound, the tread pattern and the architecture of the tyre substructure have been optimised to minimise rolling resistance and thus improve fuel economy, with no effect on comfort or performance compared with the regular 19-inch all-season tyres.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM) (optional for the Panamera, Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel, standard on all other models) sends warnings to the on-board computer’s display screen in the event of low tyre pressure.

Safety

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)

On request, your Panamera can be fitted with a braking system that has already had to cope with the harshest requirements of the racetrack: the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). For the Panamera Turbo models, it is compatible only with 20-inch wheels and for all other Panamera models it is only available in conjunction with 19-inch wheels or larger.
On the Panamera Turbo models, the cross-drilled ceramic brake discs have a diameter of 410 mm at the front and 350 mm at the rear; all other models feature discs with a diameter of 390 mm at the front and 350 mm at the rear.
PCCB is characterised by its low thermal expansion, which prevents deformation under heavy braking. Furthermore, the ceramic brake discs are totally resistant to corrosion and offer more favourable noise-damping properties.
The pedal response is fast and precise with only moderate input required. All the necessary ingredients are there for a short braking distance, even in the toughest conditions. Moreover, safety under braking at high speeds is increased thanks to the excellent fade resistance of PCCB.
The key advantage of PCCB is the extremely low weight of the ceramic brake discs, which are approximately 50% lighter than standard discs of similar design and size. As well as enhancing performance and fuel economy, this has helped to reduce unsprung and rotating masses significantly. The consequence of this is better road holding and increased comfort, particularly on uneven roads, as well as greater agility and improved handling.

Braking system

The Panamera models have a braking system equipped with six-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the front and four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers at the rear. The brake calipers on the Panamera, Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel are finished in black; on the Panamera S models they are silver coloured and on the Panamera Turbo models they are red. The brake discs are grooved and internally vented for optimum braking performance – even under extreme conditions – and rapid heat dispersal.
The brake discs on the Panamera Turbo models have a diameter of 390 mm at the front and 350 mm at the rear, whilst on all other models, the discs are 360 mm in diameter at the front and 330 mm at the rear.
The anti-lock braking system (ABS) ensures uniform deceleration. A brake pad wear indicator informs you when the brake pads need to be replaced.
The electric parking brake, which you can activate and deactivate manually, releases automatically as you pull away. With the hill- hold function, you can pull away without ever rolling back.

Lighting concept with dynamic range adjustment

All models are equipped with a driving light assistant, which switches the lights on automatically when it gets dark. As standard, the Panamera, Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel feature halogen headlights with manual range adjustment – all other models are equipped with Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic range adjustment and a headlight cleaning system. With dipped or main beam, the road ahead is illuminated more uniformly. The lighting system features an automatic switch-off and the ‘Welcome Home’ function – a customisable delayed switch-off timer that keeps the daytime running lights, the taillights and, where applicable, the courtesy lights switched on until you reach your front door.
LED daytime running lights are standard equipment on all Panamera models. On the Panamera Turbo models, each main headlight unit has four LED spotlights; on all other models, the LEDs are arranged horizontally in the front light units. Daytime running lights improve safety driving daylight hours as they make you more visible to other road users.
Also contained in the front light units are the direction indicators, bar-shaped LED light guides in the form of position lights or – exclusively reserved for the Panamera Turbo models – LED light guides as a border for the indicators.
The Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) is standard on the Panamera Turbo models and available as an option for all other Panamera models. Its dynamic cornering light function swivels the headlights towards the inside of a bend based on steering angle and road speed and the static cornering lights activate the auxiliary headlights in order to illuminate more of the road at tight bends and turns. Put simply, when you enter a bend, the road ahead is illuminated immediately so you can see any obstacles much sooner.
The system also features speed-dependent headlight range control. With adaptive light systems, it is possible for the maximum range of the dipped beams to be increased as a function of the speed of the vehicle. PDLS takes care of this automatically. When driving at higher speeds, such as on the motorway, the range of the dipped beams is adjusted by adapting the shape of the light cone, extending it further forward to improve visibility without dazzling oncoming traffic.
Another feature of the PDLS, the adverse weather function, is activated when you switch on the rear fog light. It reduces the effect of reflection phenomena in poor visibility conditions, e.g. fog, heavy rain or snowfall. The dipped beams are fanned out and the light cone is lowered to reduce the risk of the driver being dazzled.
In the event of sudden braking, the adaptive LED brake lights on all Panamera models pulsate to alert following traffic more quickly to a critical situation.
Vehicles with the driver memory package or 14-way power seats with memory package (standard in the Panamera Turbo models) feature LED courtesy lights in the exterior mirrors to illuminate the area around the doors.
LED technology is also used for the taillights, the additional brake light in the rear lid, the rear direction indicators and the rear fog light. LEDs provide better illumination and respond more quickly to driver input. For greater safety – and an unmistakable Porsche design, day or night.

Airbags

All Panamera models are fitted as standard with full-size driver and front passenger airbags which are inflated in two stages depending on the severity and type of accident. In less serious accidents, the airbags are only partially inflated, thereby minimising discomfort to the occupants.
As standard, the knee airbags for the driver and front passenger are supplemented by the Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP). This comprises side airbags in the front seats, curtain airbags along the entire roof frame and the side windows from the A-pillar to the C-pillar, and side impact protection elements in the doors. Side airbags in the rear compartment are available as an option.
Also featured as standard are an energy absorbing steering column, three-point seat belts on all seats, belt height adjustment and seat belt force limiters in the front, and seat belt pretensioners front and rear.
A rollover sensor automatically activates the curtain airbags and seat belt pretensioners if the vehicle threatens to overturn.

Comfort

Interior

In terms of Porsche design, the Panamera models are, admittedly, a little different from what we are used to. It’s no wonder, as they are the first Porsche vehicles to have four individual seats but that’s not all.
What strikes you immediately is the elevated centre console. It doesn’t look like a saloon, does it? That’s good, because it does look distinctly like a sportscar. Even more importantly, it handles like one. This is thanks partly to the extremely short distance between the gear lever and steering wheel – to be more precise, the sports steering wheel with smooth-finish leather rim, which is fitted as standard and adjusts for height and reach. Steering wheel heating is available on request.
Available as an option in conjunction with PDK or Tiptronic S is the SportDesign steering wheel with gearshift paddles for an even sportier look.
Also available as an option is the multifunction steering wheel (standard on the Panamera S, Panamera 4S, Panamera S Hybrid, Panamera Turbo and Panamera Turbo S), which has buttons for the convenient operation of a range of audio, navigation and, where applicable, telephone functions. It is finished in smooth-finish leather or, in conjunction with steering wheel heating, any finish of your choice from walnut, tineo, anthracite birch, Yachting Mahogany or carbon.
With these finishes and a selection of other materials offered in the form of predefined interior packages, there is a wealth of ways for you to personalise the interior. So you can create a sporty or luxury feel, or even a blend of both.
All the frequently used controls on the centre console are grouped logically together to enable you to select individual functions quickly and easily.
Just how much attention we have paid to providing space in the passenger compartment can be seen in the details. The Panamera models offer a variety of storage options, e.g. in the doors and centre console. The front centre armrest contains a convenient cupholder, and there are two additional fold-out cupholders installed above the glove compartment to supplement the two fitted as standard in the rear compartment.
For extra storage space, a large rear centre console is available as an option. Two 12-volt sockets and the preparation for the cooling compartment are included.
The interior lighting concept with switch-off delay was designed with not only practicality in mind but also aesthetic appeal. This includes illuminated door handles and storage compartments in the front, orientation lighting and front footwell lights. There are also reading lights and interior lights – one of each for all four seats.
An optional interior lighting package conceived specifically for the rear adds two reading lights to the overhead console, lights in each footwell, additional orientation lighting in the rear, and illumination for door storage compartments and the compartment in the rear centre console. Nearly all lights are powerful yet energy efficient LEDs. The additional ambient lighting on the overhead consoles in the front and rear and the reading lights are dimmable.
The rooflining in Alcantara is standard for the Turbo models and optional for the other models.
Thermally and noise insulated glass can be fitted as an option, as can dark tinted glazing which will maintain your privacy and protect the interior from the effects of strong sunlight. Just like the electric roll-up sunblinds on the rear side windows and behind the rear seats.

Instruments
The five circular dashboard instruments in the Panamera models are quick, clear and easy to read. Typically Porsche.
The high resolution 4.8-inch TFT colour screen in the instrument cluster gives you access to the on-board computer or the navigation system map, for example. It also shows the settings of the optional adaptive cruise control or, in the case of the Panamera S Hybrid, the real-time energy flow.
In the Panamera, Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel, the dial face of the rev counter is black, in the Panamera S models it is silver-grey, and in the Panamera Turbo models it is black and features the ‘turbo’ or ‘turbo S’ logos.

Sports steering wheel and multifunction steering wheel
In conjunction with PDK or Tiptronic S, the sports steering wheel – standard on the Panamera, Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel – has two ergonomic sliding switches for changing gear. One press forwards with the thumb and the transmission shifts up. One pull backwards with the index finger and it shifts down. Either the right or left hand can be used.
Even if the gear selector is set to automatic, you can still use the switches to change gear manually at any time. In this way, even in automatic mode, you can achieve a short burst of speed for an overtaking manoeuvre. The system reverts to automatic mode if no manual inputs are detected for approximately eight seconds.
Using the gear selector, you can also change gear manually in a separate one-touch manual shift gate. The control concept mirrors the logic of the switches on the steering wheel – press forwards to shift up, pull backwards to shift down.
A multifunction version of the sports steering wheel is available on request for the Panamera, Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel. Steering wheel heating is also optional. The multifunction version is standard on the Panamera S, Panamera 4S, Panamera S Hybrid, Panamera Turbo and Panamera Turbo S.
When PDK is combined with the Sport Chrono Package, there is an additional display above the airbag module. It tells you whether the SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control functions are activated.

SportDesign steering wheel
The SportDesign steering wheel with gearshift paddles is available on request in conjunction with PDK or Tiptronic S. The alloy paddles are ergonomically located behind the right and left steering wheel spokes. Pull the right-hand paddle to shift up. Pull the left-hand paddle to shift down.
Visually, the steering wheel is distinguished by its distinctive high-quality twin-spoke design and silver coloured spoke cover.
This steering wheel also has an additional display when combined with PDK and a Sport Chrono Package. Located in the left and right-hand steering wheel spokes, it tells you whether SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control are activated.
Another feature, reminiscent of the world of motorsport, is the top centre marking on the steering wheel rim.

Seats

Front seats
The front seats with integrated headrests offer a high degree of comfort. During cornering, they hold your body firm but without restricting your freedom of movement.
Seat adjustment is fully electric as standard with controls on both the driver and front passenger sides for seat height, squab and backrest angle, and fore/aft position.
A driver memory package, available as an option, enables the driver’s seat and exterior mirror positions to be saved and restored automatically.
In the Panamera Turbo models, the front seats offer even more functionality. The 14-way power seats with memory package for driver and front passenger are standard (optional for all other Panamera models). In addition to featuring an electric steering column adjustment facility, the package includes electric four-way lumbar support, electric seat squab length adjustment and personal memory settings for seat, steering wheel and mirror positions. The courtesy lights (LEDs in the exterior mirrors) are a component of the driver memory package and 14-way power seats with memory package.
ISOFIX child seat mounting points are available as an option for the front passenger seat in conjunction with the deactivation function for the passenger airbag.

Adaptive sports seats
Do you wish to take sporty driving to an even higher level? That is precisely what the adaptive sports seats were designed for. Available as an option for all Panamera models, they have firmer upholstery and provide even better lateral support thanks to the raised side bolsters on the seat squab and backrest.
Featuring 18-way electric adjustment, the seats can be optimally adapted to meet your needs in terms of seat height, squab and backrest angle, squab length, fore/aft adjustment and 4-way lumbar support. The steering column is also electrically adjustable.
In addition, the side bolsters on the seat squab and backrest are independently adjustable for added comfort on long distances or precision lateral support on winding roads. Also included is the personal memory for the driver and front passenger seats (including lumbar support), the steering wheel and the driver’s exterior mirror.

Rear seats
The rear compartment has two fully independent seats with plenty of leg and head room, even for taller passengers. They provide good lateral support, even during fast cornering, with no compromise on comfort. Between the seats is a folding armrest with a handy storage compartment. The backrests fold down individually with a ratio of 40:60 to increase storage capacity or to accommodate larger items. With the optional large centre console, the backrests can still be folded separately while the console itself remains fixed in position.
Eight-way power seats are available as an option for the rear in any of the Panamera models. In addition to the electric backrest adjustment, seat squab length adjustment and lumbar support functions, there is a facility to adjust the front passenger seat from the rear.
When specified in conjunction with seat ventilation, the eight-way power seats (rear) feature automatic comfort headrests. In conjunction with the adaptive sports seats in the front, sports seats are also fitted in the rear and feature a contrasting seam pattern and elevated side bolsters.
ISOFIX child seat mounting points are fitted as standard on both rear seats in all Panamera models.

Seat heating and ventilation
The front seats of the Panamera S models and the Panamera Turbo models feature seat heating as standard (optional for the Panamera, Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel). This heats the seat squab and backrest to a pleasant temperature. In the Panamera Turbo models, the seats in the rear also have a heating function (optional for all other models).
On request, we can equip the front seats, indeed all four seats, with seat ventilation (only in conjunction with seat heating). A slipstream effect is produced by active ventilation of the perforated seat centre and backrest and by passive aeration at the side bolsters. This evaporates perspiration moisture and therefore makes for a comfortable seating environment, even in hot weather. Seat heating and seat ventilation can be adjusted independently to any one of three power levels. Simultaneous ventilation and heating is possible.

Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment

Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment is available as a factory-fitted option from Porsche Exclusive. The system comprises two display consoles, two multimedia players and two wireless infrared headphones. It is compatible with all popular media formats (e. g. CD, DVD, MP3), it features user-friendly touchscreens and allows you to connect two separate, individually selectable AV sources, such as a games console or digital camera.
Each containing a swivelling 7-inch TFT screen, the screen consoles are finished in leather in the interior colour and mounted on the front seat backrests.

Adaptive cruise control

Available as an option, this enhanced version of cruise control regulates the speed of your vehicle in line with the speed of the vehicle in front. A radar sensor inside the front centre air intake scans the road ahead up to a distance of 200 m. If you’ve selected a cruising speed but have begun to gain on the vehicle in front because it is driving more slowly, this is detected by the radar sensor.
The system now reduces the speed of your vehicle at a maximum rate of 3.5 m/s² by restricting the throttle or gently applying the brakes. This continues until the distance that you have preset is maintained. Your vehicle will now follow the one in front at a reduced speed. If the other vehicle decelerates further, adaptive cruise control will continue to reduce your cruising speed – even down to a halt. If heavier braking is required, the driver will have to intervene manually.
As soon as the road ahead clears, your vehicle will accelerate back up to the cruising speed originally set.

ParkAssist and Reversing camera

ParkAssist
ParkAssist is standard in all Panamera models. With four inconspicuous sensors in the rear end, it audibly alerts the driver when detecting an obstacle behind the vehicle. An intermittent warning tone increases in rapidity as the obstacle is approached. Convenient and safe.
An enhanced version of ParkAssist, which includes six sensors in the front end, is fitted as standard in the Panamera Turbo and Panamera Turbo S and is available as an option in the other models. The audible alert is supplemented by a visual warning in the central display screen which provides a graphical representation of the vehicle’s proximity to obstacles.

Reversing camera
The optional reversing camera (only in conjunction with PCM and ParkAssist – front and rear) facilitates precise reverse parking and manoeuvring and also assists in hitching a trailer. Help is provided in the form of the camera image and the dynamic, superimposed guidelines on the PCM screen, which illustrate the predicted course of the vehicle given the current position of the steering wheel.

Transport

Luggage compartment and Rear lid

The luggage compartments in the Panamera, Panamera 4, Panamera Diesel, Panamera S and Panamera 4S models have a capacity of 445 litres. In conjunction with the BOSE® Surround Sound System or Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System, they offer 432 litres of luggage space, equal to the luggage capacity of the Panamera Turbo models. The Panamera S Hybrid has a luggage compartment capacity of 335 litres, or 317 litres if the optional BOSE® Surround Sound System is installed. Ample space, for example, for four suitcases from the Porsche Design Driver’s Selection range – colour coordinated with the vehicle’s exterior colour if you wish. What makes the storage space special is that the four suitcases can be stowed in such a way that you can remove whichever one you choose with ease – no reshuffling required.
They can then be concealed using the retractable luggage compartment cover (fitted as standard) or the optional removable luggage compartment cover. The key to this solution is the extraordinary height of the luggage compartment achieved through the special geometry of the rear lid and the large rear screen. The wide opening angle of the rear lid facilitates convenient loading.
A rarely encountered feature in this vehicle class is the fully or split-folding rear seats. In the cargo position, the available luggage capacity in the Panamera, Panamera 4, Panamera Diesel, Panamera S and Panamera 4S increases to 1,263 litres. In conjunction with the BOSE® Surround Sound System or Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System, the luggage compartment has a capacity of 1,250 litres, equal to that of the Panamera Turbo models. The Panamera S Hybrid has a capacity of 1,153 litres, or 1,135 litres if the BOSE® Surround Sound System is installed.
A ski bag is available as an option and, to accommodate it, the centre section between the rear seats folds separately.
The contents of the luggage compartment can be concealed using the detachable retractable luggage compartment cover provided as standard.
For extra protection, you could select the optional removable luggage compartment cover, which lifts up when the rear lid is opened, at which point it can be taken out.
A roll-up sunblind offered as an option is compatible with either luggage cover. Controlled electrically, it can be raised behind the rear seats for extra privacy.

Rear lid
The rear lid is made of lightweight aluminium. It unlocks in response to the remote control or the button on the handle. Top-hinged, it features a wide opening for comfortable loading and an electric soft closing function facilitates closing.

Automatic rear lid
An automatic rear lid with customisable opening angle is available as an option. It closes automatically when the button on the rear lid itself is pressed and opens in response to the dedicated button on the key remote and in the interior.

Roof transport system

A luggage compartment capacity of up to 1,263 litres is plenty, you would have thought. You want more? No problem. An integrated roof rail system enables you to fit the optional roof transport system. It is then ready to hold any of the popular roof attachments available from Porsche Tequipment, e.g. ski holders and roof boxes. All load carrying components are made of aluminium. Maximum payload: 75 kg.

Exterior design

The new Cayenne takes a more enlightened approach to marriage of sport and utility. Its taut, sleek shape is the result of Porsche’s belief that form must follow the demands of function, not the whims of fashion. Consider the lines of the new Cayenne: The exterior is unmistakably Porsche. The sharper profile exudes purpose, which is further emphasized by the dynamic rear roof pillars and flowing coupé-like silhouette.
The contours of the front section draw the eye, reflecting the car’s excellent dynamics at first glance. The elongated hood is reminiscent of Porsche race cars from the 1960s.
The front wheel arches and taut flanks are extremely well-defined, while the “power-domed” hood further underlines the sheer power and resolution within—this is particularly dominant on the Cayenne Turbo.

Interior design

Like that in every Porsche, the new Cayenne interior exhibits the very highest standards of comfort and quality. And like every Porsche, it reflects our belief that the driver deserves the highest level of ergonomic design.
As you settle into the driver seat, you’ll instantly sense the exceptional support. In front of you, the three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and steering column offer manual height and reach adjustment (electrically adjustable on the new Cayenne Turbo). The steering-wheel rim is in Smooth-Finish Leather. A three-spoke sport steering wheel with shift paddles is available as an option.
And for the first time on Cayenne, five round gauges—a grouping familiar to many Porsche drivers—now form the instrument cluster, rising slightly from the dashboard as a visual unit.
Oil pressure, oil and coolant temperature as well as the fuel level are displayed using analog gauges, while the boost pressure gauge on the new Cayenne Turbo is digital. A compass display in the instrument cluster is available as an option in conjunction with PCM. This shows the four cardinal and four ordinal directions, with degree increments as well as your current altitude.
The center console rises to meet the dashboard—a design clearly inspired by the Carrera GT.
The high-resolution 4.8-inch TFT color screen displays information from the onboard computer or, in conjunction with PCM including navigation module, map data from the navigation system. It also shows the settings of the optional adaptive cruise control or gives various warnings, such as alerts from the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which is standard on all models. On the new Cayenne S Hybrid, the display also provides information about the energy management.
The new Cayenne places frequently used controls logically together on the center console, so selecting individual functions is quick and easy.
The rear seats provide manual fore/aft adjustment as well as backrest adjustment and a 40/20/40 split-folding feature, thereby increasing the storage capacity from 20.5 cubic feet to 62.9 cubic feet (depending on the model).
All new Cayenne models are fitted with power windows, front and rear, with electronic door locks, remote central locking and automatic climate control. Other practical features include door storage compartments and in-door bottle holders in the front and rear.
The interior features a range of quality materials available in various combinations and comes in a choice of interior colors and finishes offering sporting style and exclusivity.

Character

When we presented the first Cayenne in 2002, there were those who viewed the idea of such a Porsche with skepticism. Could it even be considered a Porsche? After all, it had four doors. It seemed such a radical departure for a company whose sports cars had always been lightweight, nimble-handling machines of the highest efficiency. Yet Porsche engineers managed to fuse those exact qualities with those of a rugged, roomy SUV.
That core Cayenne concept remains intact, and with good reason. The Cayenne was an instant success, earning both critical praise and popular acceptance while reaching 100,000 in sales faster than any Porsche model ever. We’ve just continued to improve it.
The new Cayenne is lighter—dropping up to 364 pounds, depending on the specification. With less mass to move, the power of the Cayenne translates into quicker acceleration, faster reflexes and shorter braking.
Its 3.6-litre, naturally aspirated V6 engine uses Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), variable-valve timing on both inlet and exhaust, and a variable-resonance intake manifold to do more with less. The figures speak for themselves: rated at 300 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 295 lb.-ft., the new Cayenne records a top track speed of 230 kph and a 0 – 100 kph time of 7.5 seconds. With less fuel consumption than ever before.
The Porsche Traction Management (PTM) combines active all-wheel drive with an electronically variable multi-plate clutch, Automatic Brake Differential (ABD) and Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR). PTM ensures the perfect distribution of drive torque to all four wheels, whether on long straights, through tight corners or on surfaces with different friction coefficients: for dynamic handling and increased traction. Drive is transmitted through a sport-tuned six-speed manual gearbox, which ensures optimal progression through the gears. The gear lever throw is short and precise, with only minimal driver effort required. In addition to the standard 18-inch Cayenne wheels and new larger brakes, the Cayenne can be fitted with the optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)—for outstanding brake performance. Another key advantage: a total weight savings of approximately 50 percent compared with that of equivalent cast-iron discs.
The list of standard equipment includes Bluetooth® hands-free phone interface, AUX-in, Partial Leather seats, climate control, the CDR-31 audio system with touchscreen, universal audio interface, cruise control and auto headlights. For added convenience, there’s also a “Welcome Home” lighting function. When you arrive at a destination after dark, the headlights remain illuminated for a user-defined period, lighting your path from the vehicle.

Drive

Performance

All Cayenne engines use Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) to achieve a significant increase in specific power and torque, as well as better fuel economy and lower emissions.
The new Cayenne features a 3.6-litre, naturally aspirated V6 engine with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), and variable-valve timing on both inlet and exhaust. The engine delivers 300 horsepower at 6300 rpm and maximum torque of 295 lb.-ft. at 3000 rpm with a 0 – 100 kph time of 7.5 seconds. Maximum track speed is 230 kph (manual transmission).

Six-speed manual gearbox

The six-speed manual gearbox on the new Cayenne has been specifically adapted for the demands of high-performance use. The gear lever throw is short and precise, and each of the six ratios has been selected for optimal progression through the gears. As the center console rises to meet the dashboard, the gear lever is close at hand—for an even more engaging drive.
The standard upshift indicator in the instrument cluster helps to reduce fuel consumption still further.
Eight-speed Tiptronic S with Auto Start Stop function is also available as an option on the Cayenne.

Tiptronic S

The new eight-speed Tiptronic S features a particularly wide ratio spread. First gear is designed for optimal acceleration when pulling away, and greater performance when tackling ascents and towing loads in off-road terrain. Top speed is reached in 6th gear. The two upper gears are used to lower the revs at high speed, thereby enhancing fuel economy and occupant comfort. On the highway in particular, driving at low rpm’s will significantly reduce the noise level inside the vehicle. In automatic mode, the driver can influence gearshifts on the Tiptronic S using the throttle and brakes alone. Tiptronic S automatically adapts the gearshift points for performance driving—equally, if a more conservative driving style is detected, the system selects a gearshift point that offers maximum fuel economy. Under heavy braking, Tiptronic S shifts down to maximize engine braking.
An electric pump is used to maintain the required pressure of the transmission fluid, e.g., to transmit high levels of torque at lower engine speeds.
The standard three-spoke multifunction steering wheel in conjunction with Tiptronic S has two ergonomic switches for manual gear changes. One press forward with the thumb and Tiptronic S shifts up. One pull backward with the index finger and Tiptronic S shifts down. Either the right- or left-hand switch can be used. Naturally, you can also change gear using the gear selector lever on the center console.

Chassis

Air suspension

The new Cayenne models can be equipped with an air suspension system featuring self-leveling, ride-height control and PASM—for enhanced driving dynamics and comfort. The self-leveling function maintains a constant ground clearance, which can easily be adjusted using the ride-height control on the center console:

1. Special Off-road Level
2.28 in. above Normal Level; max. ground clearance: 10.55 in. (Cayenne Turbo: 10.75 in.); selectable at speeds of up to 30 kph .

2. Off-road Level
1.10 in. above Normal Level; max. ground clearance: 9.37 in. (Cayenne Turbo: 9.57 in.); selectable at speeds of up to 80 kph.

3. Normal Level

Wheels and TPM

All of the wheels for the new Cayenne models have been specifically designed to reflect the character of the car—and convey it to the road.
Standard on the Cayenne: the 18-inch Cayenne wheel. Standard on the Cayenne S and Cayenne S Hybrid: the 18-inch Cayenne S III wheel. Standard on the Cayenne Turbo: the new 19-inch Cayenne Turbo wheel.
A range of other wheel options in various sizes (up to 21 inches in diameter) is available for all models.

Tires

All tires have been optimized with regard to driving performance, handling, rolling resistance and weight. They provide great potential for reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
All Cayenne models equipped with 18-, 19-, and 20-inch wheels are equipped with all-season tires as standard. The three basic components of the tire have been enhanced—the rubber compound, tread design and the architecture of the substructure—especially on the 19-inch all-season tires. This reduces rolling resistance and fuel consumption, while offering the same level of comfort and performance as regular all-season tires.
Summer performance tires are available at no cost.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) provides early warning of a detected low or sudden drop in pressure, via the onboard computer display. In addition, the driver can quickly and easily check the individual pressures in all four tires via the multipurpose display in the instrument cluster.

Steering

The steering system has been completely revised and adapted for a sportier driving style. Around the straight-ahead position, in particular, the ratio is now more direct. With the variable steering ratio and special valve settings on the power-steering system, outstanding maneuverability is ensured. The turning circle of the new Cayenne models is just 39.1 feet.
The steering column itself consists of multiple collapsing sections linked by two universal joints, and a special deformation element provides additional safety in the event of a front impact.
And for the for the first time, electrohydraulic power steering is used in the Cayenne S Hybrid. The demand-driven pump provides assistance to the steering only when required, thereby contributing to overall efficiency.

Servotronic

Servotronic is a speed-sensitive power-steering system.
At higher speeds, the steering becomes firmer, and inputs are more precise, while driver comfort is maintained. At lower speeds, it enables easy maneuverability and parking.

Safety

Lighting concept

A critical safety component onboard every Porsche is the eyes of its driver. The more information the eyes receive, the faster the driver can react. Which is why the headlights on the new Cayenne models offer exceptional levels of performance.
Auto headlights
The headlights are automatically switched on when darkness sets in or when driving through a tunnel in the daytime. Other features include an automatic switch-off and “Welcome Home” function—when you arrive at a destination after dark, the headlights remain illuminated for a user-defined period, lighting your path from the car.
Standard on all Cayenne models.

Halogen headlights
The projector-beam halogen headlights feature automatic static range control and reflection high-beam lights—for optimal illumination of the road.
Standard on the Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne S Hybrid.

Bi-Xenon™ headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
The Bi-Xenon™ headlights provide more uniform illumination of the road in both low- and high-beam mode. The system features automatic dynamic range control, auxiliary halogen highbeams and integrated headlight washers.
The dynamic cornering light function swivels the headlights toward the inside of a corner, based on the current steering angle and road speed. The static cornering lights activate the auxiliary headlights in order to illuminate more of the road in tight corners and turns.
PDLS also features speed-sensitive headlight range control—for even greater safety.

Daytime running lights
Fitted as standard on all new Cayenne models: LED daytime running lights. On the new Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne S Hybrid, these are arranged horizontally in the front light units, whereas on the Cayenne Turbo, each headlight unit has four LED spotlights. Daytime running lights improve safety in the daytime as they make you more visible to other road users.

Taillights
LED technology is used for all functions on the new rear-light modules. For an ultra-fast response and greater luminance.
The high-level third brake light is integrated into the roof spoiler.

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)

Available as an option on all new Cayenne models, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) has already proven its ability to cope with the harshest requirements of the racetrack. It is available in conjunction with 20-inch wheels or larger for the Cayenne Turbo and with 19-inch wheels or larger for all other Cayenne models.
The cross-drilled discs are generously proportioned: On the Cayenne Turbo they have a diameter of 16.14 inches at the front and 14.57 inches at the rear, while on all other models they measure 15.35 inches and 14.57 inches, respectively.
The discs are made from a specially treated carbon-fiber compound that is silicated in a high-vacuum process at over 3,000°F. The resulting material is not only much harder than cast iron—it is also more resistant to heat.
Even at high temperatures, the thermal resistance of the PCCB disc ensures outstanding dimensional stability. The ceramic material is completely resistant to corrosion and offers excellent acoustic damping properties.
PCCB enables shorter braking distances. The pedal response is fast and precise with only moderate input required.
Excellent fade resistance ensures greater balance when slowing from high speed.
The key advantage of PCCB is a total weight savings of approximately 50 percent compared with that of equivalent cast-iron discs. By lightening the unsprung and rotating masses, you increase the handling agility and ride comfort, and reduce fuel consumption.

Braking system

Porsche is known for the powerful acceleration of its sports cars. But the incredible stopping power engineered into every Porsche is equally well-known. Equipped with new braking systems, the new Cayenne models advance the science of stopping. The larger brakes offer excellent deceleration—even when the vehicle is loaded with five adult occupants, a full complement of luggage and a braked trailer load of up to 7,716 pounds (Cayenne with manual gearbox: 5,952 pounds).
All Cayenne models have internally vented discs all around, ensuring consistent performance during heavy use. The front-disc dimensions (diameter/thickness) are 13.78/1.34 inches on the Cayenne, 14.17/1.42 inches on the Cayenne S and Cayenne S Hybrid, and 15.35/1.50 inches on the Cayenne Turbo. All models have six-piston monobloc aluminum brake calipers at the front and four-piston equivalents at the rear.
The calipers are black on the new Cayenne, and silver on the new Cayenne S and new Cayenne S Hybrid. On the new Cayenne Turbo, they feature a striking red finish.
Braking is assisted by a tandem booster and large brake master cylinder. Further assistance is provided by PSM.
The pads are equipped with individual wear sensors. When new pads are required, a warning light is illuminated in the instrument cluster. Electric parking brake.
Manually activated and deactivated, the electric parking brake releases automatically as you drive off.

Auto-hold function

With the Auto-hold function, you can pull away on the flat or a slope without ever rolling back. The system automatically detects when the vehicle has come to a halt on an uphill gradient. PSM then maintains the brake pressure at all four wheels for a brief period to help prevent the vehicle from moving in the opposite direction.

Recuperation

The electronic engine management system on the new Cayenne S Hybrid controls the braking process so that when the brake pedal is actuated, as much expended energy as possible can be harnessed by the electric motor generator mode and stored in the 288-volt nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery. This is referred to as recuperation.
To do this, the engine management system adjusts the generator current depending on the brake pedal position, recovers as much of the kinetic energy as possible and stores it in the battery. When the pressure on the brake pedal exceeds a certain threshold, the brakes are applied.

Comfort

Porsche Communication Management (PCM)
Powerful and versatile—yet easy to use—the PCM is the central control system for all information and communication functions.
Key features include a seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen display. As before, you can also operate PCM using the rotary push-button control. The menu layout is extremely clear, with no more than five entries per page, enabling fast and accurate operation. A help function is displayed at the bottom of the screen for further guidance in specific situations.
Radio functions comprise 42 presets, and an FM dual tuner. The CD/DVD drive plays CDs and audio DVDs and is MP3-compatible. Audio playback of video DVDs is also supported. An optional integrated six-disc CD/DVD changer is available for the PCM.
A navigation module with high-speed hard drive is included with the PCM. The map display offers a bird’s-eye view as well as conventional 2-D layout. In some regions, even topography and buildings can be displayed in 3-D. The remaining route is automatically adapted to the maximum screen size. In split-screen mode, you can view the current map section together with a list of directions for the next maneuver. The system also indicates the respective speed limit for the roads covered in the database via PCM or the TFT display in the instrument cluster.

Voice control

With the optional voice control system, Cayenne puts whole-word recognition at your command—without the tedious task of voice learning. Audio prompts make voice inputs even simpler. You can also browse through lists by voice command.
Optional for all Cayenne models.
Electronic logbook
This optional addition to PCM enables automatic recording of mileage, route distance, date and time, as well as starting location and destination of every journey. Data can be downloaded from the PCM via Bluetooth® or USB port and analyzed on a PC using software included with the package.

Audio system CDR-31

The new Cayenne models offer the highest levels of audio engineering.
The CDR-31 audio system has a seven-inch color touchscreen display, which enables you to navigate and select the main menus and functions with ease and efficiency.
The integrated CD radio, featuring an FM dual tuner, 30 memory presets, dynamic autostore and speed-sensitive volume control, includes a sound system with 10 loudspeakers and a total audio output of 100 watts.
Standard on the Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne S Hybrid.
The CDR-31 can also be combined with the optional Bose® Surround Sound system or Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System for the ultimate in audio performance.
Other options available in combination with the CDR-31 include an integrated six-disc CD changer and XM® Satellite Radio.

Rear Seat Entertainment

Designed to the highest standards of safety and ergonomics, the Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment blends harmoniously within the passenger compartment. Available as a factory-fitted option from Porsche Exclusive, the package1 includes two display consoles, each with an integrated media player and USB port, and two wireless infrared headphones. The display consoles are trimmed in matching interior leather with decorative seams and are located on the front-seat backrests. Each one contains a high-resolution seven-inch WVGA TFT color display. For greater convenience, they are swivel-mounted and feature touchscreen operation. The system is compatible with CDs and DVDs, and boasts built-in anti-shock protection. It is also possible to connect two separate and individually selectable AV sources, such as a game console or digital camera.

Seats

8-way power seats (front)

Offering excellent long-distance comfort and intuitive operation, the front power seats feature 8-way electric adjustment including fore/aft, height, seat cushion angle and seat cushion/backrest angle settings. All seat variants come with 2-way head restraints and storage pockets on the front-seat backrests.
Driver memory package for 8-way power seats (front)
Multiple preferred settings for the driver seat, and exterior mirror positions, can be saved and restored automatically. Additional courtesy lighting in the door mirrors is also part of the driver memory package.
Optional for the Cayenne, standard on the Cayenne S and Cayenne S Hybrid.

14-way power seats (front) with memory package

For added convenience, this seat offers electric adjustment of the front-seat positions (8-way) as well as lumbar support, seat cushion length and steering column. The memory stores both front-seat settings, and steering-wheel and exterior mirror settings for the driver.
No-cost option on the Cayenne Turbo. Optional for all other Cayenne models.

18-way Adaptive Sport Seats with memory package

Taking comfort and sports performance to a whole new level, the Adaptive Sport Seats with memory package feature higher, more contoured side bolsters. The additional lumbar support, the seat cushion length, side bolsters on the seat cushion and backrest, and steering column can be electrically adjusted. The package stores seat settings including lumbar support for both driver and front passenger. The driver-side memory also stores steering-wheel and exterior mirror preferences.
Standard on the Cayenne Turbo. Optional for all other Cayenne models.

Seat/steering-wheel heating

All seat variants are available with seat heating, either just at the front or both front and rear. Available as an option, the steering-wheel heating ensures that the wheel is pleasantly warm.

Seat ventilation

For even greater occupant comfort on longer journeys and in the summer, the front seats can be equipped with seat ventilation (requires seat heating and either 14-way power seats or 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats with memory package).

Rear seats

Styled to match the front power or Adaptive Sport Seats, the rear bench offers generous space for up to three adult passengers. For added practicality, the bench features fore/aft adjustment of 6.3 inches and a 40/20/40 split-folding seatback. The flexible center section folds down to create a load-through facility for longer items such as the optional ski bag. The process is quite simple: unlock and fold down. It also features a folding armrest. The rear-seat backrest can be adjusted by up to six degrees: up to three degrees forward of the starting position and up to three degrees back. When it comes to being user-friendly, the new Cayenne models get right to the point—quick and easy.

 
Child seats
With their unique design, Porsche child seats comply with the latest safety standards. Available from Porsche Tequipment, they have been specially tested and approved for use in Porsche vehicles, offering comfort and safety for all passengers up to 12 years of age. All fabrics are breathable, kind to the skin and easy to clean. The covers can be removed and are washable.
All of the new Cayenne models have standard LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) mounting points on the outer rear seats. This system is specifically designed to attach the child seat directly to the seat. Porsche child seats are available through Porsche Tequipment.

ParkAssist + Rearview camera

ParkAssist

This parking aid uses an acoustic signal and front/rear displays to alert the driver of any obstacles at the front or rear of the car. Its sensors are neatly concealed in the front and rear aprons. The acoustic signal is supplemented by a visual warning in the center console display which provides a graphical representation of the vehicle’s proximity to obstacles.
Standard on the Cayenne Turbo. Optional for the Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne S Hybrid.

Rearview camera

The rearview camera (only available in conjunction with PCM) facilitates reverse parking and maneuvering and also assists with hitching a trailer. Help is provided in the form of a high-contrast color image with dynamic guidelines on the PCM screen, which show the predicted course of the vehicle based on the current position of the steering wheel.

Transport

Luggage

The new Cayenne brings a new facet to the concept of high performance. And it’s extremely versatile too.

Luggage compartment

The new Cayenne models have a spacious passenger area and, thanks to the adjustable rear bench, a large versatile luggage compartment. With a total volume of 23.7 cubic feet, it offers more than enough space for up to six suitcases—depending on the size. Other standard features include an easily accessible storage compartment on the left (not in the Cayenne S Hybrid) and a practical load-through facility when the center section of the rear bench is folded down.
A Power Tailgate with a user-programmable setting that can be adjusted to the height of your garage is standard on all new Cayenne models.
With the rear seats folded, the cargo space expands to as much as 62.9 cubic feet. Items can be stored out of view and protected from the sun using a retractable cover with detachable storage cassette.
A handy ski bag is available as an option. As well as protecting the interior of your Cayenne, it can be used to transport your skis to and from the car. For added practicality, the ski bag can also be wiped clean.
Even when the car is fully loaded, the self-leveling air suspension on the Cayenne Turbo (optional on all other models) maintains a constant ground clearance at front and rear.
For greater convenience, the air suspension package includes ride-height adjustment, enabling the car to be lowered below the normal ride level for easier loading of heavy items. When moving off, the suspension automatically reverts to the standard ride-height setting (Normal Level).

Cargo management system

Partition the luggage compartment and secure individual objects during transit using a rail system with sliding telescopic bar, a fixing belt and four variable lashing eyelets. A reversible mat protects against dirt while securing luggage under braking, etc. The package also includes a cargo partition net which provides additional safety when the car is fully loaded. The partition attaches to one of two easily accessible points on the roof liner.

Roof transport system / Towbar systems

Roof rails

The high-quality roof rails in Aluminum blend harmoniously with the dynamic design of the vehicle. The styling of the roof is further enhanced by a set of three drip rails included in the package. The roof rails are required for fitment of the optional Roof Transport System and come in a high-gloss black finish if equipped with the Monochrome Black Exterior Package.

Roof Transport System

Even when the luggage compartment is completely full, the Cayenne has space for more. In conjunction with the optional roof rails, the car can be equipped with a set of lockable transverse roof bars for all the usual load-carrying attachments from Porsche. The load-bearing parts are made from aluminum and enable a maximum roof load of 220 pounds. Load-carrying attachments are available from Porsche Tequipment.

Trailer hitch

The Cayenne is quite simply the most versatile vehicle we have ever built. This includes the capability of being used as a tow vehicle.
All Porsche Cayenne models have trailer-hitch preparation as standard equipment.
An optional Towing Package includes a manually detachable trailer hitch that accommodates a maximum braked trailer weight of 7,716 pounds, and a maximum tongue weight of 617 pounds.
With its exceptional towing capacity, the Cayenne takes you down the road as perhaps no Porsche ever before.

Exterior
We have redefined the Boxster in terms of its performance, and defined how the roadster of the future should look. In doing so, we have once again succeeded in creating an icon of independence. Just like its legendary predecessors, including the 550 Spyder, it is a Porsche that continues to epitomise the feeling of genuine freedom and advancement.
The vertical contour of the headlights was inherited from Porsche race cars of the 1960s and 1970s. The new Boxster may be infused with the genes of past generations, but it ushers in a new and forward-looking design ethos.
Large, imposing air intakes give the front a powerful appearance.
The side contour promises thrilling performance, while the long wheelbase and low, raked windscreen are integral to forming the stretched, wedge-shaped silhouette. With the hood closed, this impression is reinforced by the extremely sporting roofline. Large wheels, up to 20 inches in size, make a stylish addition to the classic roadster. These emphasise the cars wide track and help to achieve a completely new level of athletic performance.
The distinctive shoulder line gives further emphasis to the wheels and, in combination with the side air intakes, to the mid-engine layout. Such features are reminiscent of the 718 RS 60 Spyder, a lightweight mid-engined sports car that achieved success in endurance racing and hillclimbing championships alike.
Precise lines, which run elegantly across the wings to the rear, make the new Boxster unique among Porsche models. While its overall look is just as imposing, its lines are more sharply defined than on any Porsche we’ve seen before.
The exclusive door styling reflects more recent Porsche design developments. In typical Porsche fashion, it has a clear function. The dynamic contouring improves airflow to the side air intakes. At the top, it leads into a precise longitudinal edge and, at the bottom, it is underlined by the sculpted door sill. The exterior mirrors are mounted directly on the doors for impressive aerodynamics and low wind noise.
The rear wing is not only a visual treat, it deploys automatically to reduce lift. Aerodynamics and aesthetics are combined to superb effect. Retracted, the spoiler separation edge makes a seamless transition to the LED taillights. The narrow direction indicators appear to extend the rear wing further. Each taillight sweeps around the central brake light and accentuates the contours of the entire unit. For striking effect, the reversing light and rear fog light are arranged in the middle underneath the rear wing. Clearly, this lighting concept has no precedent, rather it is the result of Porsche’s modern use of form. The diffuser with stainless-steel tailpipe (dual-tube on the Boxster S) integrated into the centre adds the finishing touch to the powerfully designed rear end.
In summary, the new Boxster draws inspiration from a long history and, yet, it also incorporates the sum of our ideas of how the future should be. In doing so, it reflects a completely new interpretation of the roadster concept – with a clear focus on looking forward.

Interior
Ultimately, the feeling of freedom comes from within. The interior of the new Boxster models is purposefully designed as a declaration of independence.
The geometric form of the cockpit follows a clear direction: forwards. The elevated centre console integrates the driver optimally into the vehicle by positioning the gear lever extremely close to the steering wheel to enable fast and sporty gear changes.
The generously proportioned interior is light and offers plenty of space for driver and passenger comfort. The individual controls are characterised by their simplicity and ergonomics for intuitive use.
Fitted as standard, the CDR audio system combines with the optional Sound Package Plus to deliver impressive acoustic performance and has a touchscreen for easy operation. Available as an option, the BOSE® Surround Sound System creates an authentic sound experience with eight amplifier channels, 10 loudspeakers and a total output of 445 watts.
The interior materials are high-quality, and the refined tone is enhanced by a wealth of silver-coloured details. These are found on the dashboard trim strip, the centre console, the door pulls, the glove compartment release lever, the side and centre air vent surrounds and the model designation plaque on the centre console.
The steering wheel rim and gear lever/selector are sporty and stylish at the same time. The door pull inlays are typically Porsche. Finished in leather, they represent a balanced blend of design and functionality. In the Boxster S, the door armrests and the centre console storage compartment lid are also finished in leather.
For even more sporty elegance, you can request the optional leather package for a stylish leather finish on purposefully selected interior features. As always, a comprehensive leather interior package is also available as an option.

Engineering Boxster
What use is expertise if it isn’t put into practice and applied to the road?
In the Boxster, the 2.7-litre horizontally opposed six cylinder engine delivers 195 kW (265 hp) ; in the Boxster S, the 3.4-litre equivalent generates 232 kW (315 hp). Both mid-mounted engines feature direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus for a significant increase in both power output and efficiency. The SPORT button on the centre console is fitted as standard and opens up even more agile responses. Power is transmitted to the wheels by a lightweight six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).
A series of innovative technologies is key to achieving exemplary efficiency. As standard, these include the auto start/stop function, electrical system recuperation, energy-saving electromechanical power steering, intelligent thermal management and, in conjunction with PDK, the coasting function. The result is a significant reduction in fuel consumption and, therefore, a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 16% compared with the previous model (depending on the equipment variant).
Porsche Stability Management (PSM) provides stability at the limits of sporty performance. Available as an option, enhanced Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) offers continuous adjustment of damping forces based on the selected mode. Dynamic performance can be further improved with optional Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV). The optional Sport Chrono Package includes dynamic gearbox mounts for the first time. They contain a fluid with magnetic properties, which enables them to adapt instantly to driving conditions and counteract the effects of inertia. The results are perceptibly more stable handling during performance driving, as well as a higher level of ride comfort.
The brakes at the front axle have a greater surface area for improved braking performance. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is available as an option.
The hood on the new Boxster models makes it easy to clear your head. Fully electric, it opens and closes in around nine seconds and is operable up to a speed of 50 km/h (approx. 30 mph).

Drive

Perfromance

2.7-litre engine
The Boxster is equipped with a 2.7-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It generates 195 kW (265 hp) at 6,700 rpm. The maximum torque of 280 Nm is available over a broad engine speed range from 4,500 rpm to 6,500 rpm.
The new Boxster with six-speed manual gearbox accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 264 km/h (164 mph). With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it completes the 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) sprint in 5.7 seconds and achieves a maximum speed of 262 km/h (162 mph). In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the sprint time is reduced to just 5.5 seconds.

3.4-litre engine
The Boxster S is powered by a 3.4-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It develops 232 kW (315 hp) at 6,700 rpm and the maximum torque of 360 Nm is produced between 4,500 rpm and 5,800 rpm.
The new Boxster S with six-speed manual gearbox races from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 279 km/h (173 mph). With optional PDK, an acceleration time of 5.0 seconds and a maximum speed of 277 km/h (172 mph) are achieved. In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the Boxster S with PDK finishes the sprint in only 4.8 seconds.

Boxer engines
At Porsche, the mid-mounted boxer engine is more than a tradition, it is a legend.
One of the most renowned examples of its use was in the 550 Spyder. In conjunction with an intelligent lightweight construction, this arrangement delivered outstanding agility and cornering dynamics and proved to be a key factor in the countless victories achieved on some of the world’s most famous racetracks. In the 1960s, the 718 RS 60 Spyder contributed to the triumphant success of the mid-engined race car with wins in hillclimbing and endurance events.
The mid-mounted engine belongs at Porsche and it belongs in the Boxster. The advantages speak for themselves. The concentration of mass close to the centre of the vehicle and the low centre of gravity produce extraordinary agility and cornering dynamics. At the same time, weight is uniformly distributed between the front and rear axles and handling characteristics are particularly well balanced. The combined result enables the driver fully enjoy every corner and maintain excellent control over the vehicle.
For us, there are many reasons to remain faithful to the mid-mounted engine concept, to keep transferring performance from the racetrack to the road and to continue to combine tradition with innovation. How do we do it? Through Intelligent Performance, our commitment to high power with comparatively low fuel consumption and emission figures.
With this aim, we developed two compact and lightweight boxer engines that are characterised by their ability to deliver high levels of power and efficiency simultaneously. Both engines are equipped with efficient technologies as standard, including VarioCam Plus, direct fuel injection (DFI), auto start/stop, electrical system recuperation and enhanced thermal management.
What else could we have given the mid-mounted engine? An even more agile response. One press of the SPORT button on the centre console makes engine performance even more dynamic for driving pleasure at the limits of performance. Let’s take a look in more detail.

Efficiency

Thermal management
The Boxster models feature a new version of thermal management to reduce friction losses that arise during the warm-up phase.
Thanks to the selective control strategy and on-demand, gradual activation of the various cooling circuits, the engine and gearbox warm up to normal operating temperature more rapidly. The consequent reduction in friction also reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. During sporty driving, thermal management also acts to reduce temperatures so that a high level of performance is maintained.
Our cross-flow cooling system, as used in motorsport, supplies each engine cylinder uniformly with coolant, which protects the valves against thermal overload and, therefore, premature wear. This improves combustion and keeps emissions, fuel consumption and noise comparatively low.

Auto start/stop function
The auto start/stop function, which is integrated as standard in the new Boxster models, switches off the engine when you stop, select neutral and release the clutch pedal. In cars with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it is simply a case of applying and holding the brake.
All audio and communication systems remain switched on, as does the air conditioning system.
The engine will restart as soon as you operate the clutch or, in cars with PDK, release the brake. This fuel-saving innovation is designed primarily for use in towns or congested motorway traffic.
The auto start/stop function can be deactivated and reactivated using a separate button on the centre console. The function may be deactivated automatically under particular circumstances, e.g. in extreme outside temperatures, when the SPORT button is selected or when there is low battery charge.
Electrical system recuperation
For enhanced efficiency the new Boxster models are equipped with intelligent electrical system recuperation. The vehicle battery is recharged by the generator predominantly under braking. Thanks to this selective recharging, when you request full driving power the maximum possible output can be directed straight to the road.

Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
Available as an option for the new Boxster models is a completely retuned 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), featuring both manual and automatic modes. PDK offers extremely fast gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power, improved acceleration over the manual gearbox, very short response times, reduced fuel consumption and a distinct increase in comfort.
In total, PDK has seven forward gears at its disposal. Gears 1 to 6 have a sports ratio and top speed is reached in 6th gear. The 7th gear ratio is longer and keeps engine speed low to improve ride comfort and reduce fuel consumption at higher speeds.
The design of PDK is similar to two conventional gearboxes in one. The odd numbered gears are housed on one assembly and the even numbered gears on another, each having its own clutch. While one gear is engaged, PDK pre-selects the next gear based on driver input. When the next gear is requested, drive is switched from one clutch to the other in milliseconds, delivering gear changes with no loss of drive.
With the SPORT button selected, the full advantages of the new version of PDK are brought into play: a more immediate response to throttle inputs, even shorter shift times and swift, throttle-blip downshifts on overrun and when braking – always accompanied by an emotive engine sound.
With the optional Sport Chrono Package, PDK is enhanced by the ‘Launch Control’ and ‘motorsport-derived gearshift strategy’ functions for even faster and firmer gear changes and the best possible performance thanks to a boost in torque during upshift phases. Overrun downshifts provide extremely sporty braking and acceleration for added excitement.

Exhaust system
In the new Boxster models, each cylinder bank has its own stainless-steel exhaust tract. Downstream of their respective rear silencer, the tracts converge into a connecting tube and a single (Boxster) or twin (Boxster S) tailpipe. The stereo Lambda control circuitry controls and monitors each cylinder bank separately. For each exhaust tract, four corresponding oxygen sensors regulate the composition of the exhaust gas and monitor the performance of the catalytic converters. Having separate tracts means that the exhaust gas can flow more freely. The resulting reduction in pressure loss has a positive impact on power output, torque and the unmistakable engine sound.

Safety

Braking system
Porsche brakes set standards worldwide for stopping power and stability. For the new Boxster models, braking performance is as essential as driving performance.
Both models are equipped with four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers at the front and rear. This design means that, not only are the brakes extremely resistant to deformation, they are lightweight for a particularly fast and sensitive braking response.
The new generation of brake caliper at the front axle, combined with enlarged brake pads and the newly developed brake booster, has managed to improve braking and component stability even during continuous use. These two characteristics have also been optimised by the newly developed brake ventilation system with a modified air spoiler at the front and rear axles.
The enhanced dynamics of the Boxster and Boxster S also demand appropriate brake discs. All Boxster brake discs are internally vented and cross-drilled for improved braking in wet conditions. On the Boxster S, the diameter of the front brake discs has been enlarged by 15 mm to 330 mm. At the rear, the diameter is the same as on the Boxster – 299 mm The brake calipers on the Boxster and Boxster S are black and red respectively.

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)
From the start, Porsche has been synonymous with motorsport. Ever since 1948, when we found our identity on the racetrack, we have taken the experience we have gained and applied it to the road. The optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is a fine example. This brake system has already had to cope with the harshest requirements of motor racing and is fitted in cars that compete in demanding events such as the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
The cross-drilled PCCB ceramic brake discs for the new Boxster have a diameter of 350 mm front and rear for even more formidable braking performance.
The use of six-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers on the front axle and four-piston units at the rear – all finished in yellow – ensures extremely high brake forces which, crucially, are exceptionally consistent.
PCCB enables shorter braking distances in even the toughest road and race conditions. Excellent fade resistance ensures greater balance when slowing from racetrack speeds.
Another key advantage of PCCB is the extremely low weight of the ceramic brake discs, which are approximately 50% lighter than standard discs of similar design and size. As well as enhancing performance and fuel economy, this represents a major reduction in unsprung and rotating masses. The consequence of this is better road holding and increased comfort, particularly on uneven roads, as well as greater agility and improved handling.
Please note that circuit racing, trackday use and other forms of performance driving can significantly reduce the service life of even the most durable pads and discs. As with conventional high-performance braking systems, we recommend that all brake components be professionally inspected and replaced where necessary after every track event.

Lights
Lights will always be an essential safety feature, but we go one step further by using them as part of an extraordinary styling concept.
Clear glass halogen headlights are fitted as standard on the Boxster. The Boxster S is equipped as standard with Bi-Xenon headlights. On both models, LED daytime running lights and position lights are housed in a separate auxiliary light unit above the outer air intakes. LEDs provide powerful illumination, respond extremely rapidly to driver input, offer a longer service life and have an unmistakable appearance.
LED technology opens up entirely new possibilities for designers. Not only are LEDs capable of fulfilling all the functions of the imposing taillights and third brake light, they are integral to safety and create a look that is unmistakable, day and night.

Bi-Xenon headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
Why should independence be enjoyed only at night? The optional Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), which comprises Bi-Xenon headlights with halogen main-beam headlights, a headlight cleaning system and automatic dynamic range control, provides uniform illumination of the road whether dipped or main beam is selected.
The dynamic cornering light function swivels the main headlights towards the inside of a bend based on steering angle and road speed. Put simply, a greater part of the road ahead is illuminated the moment you enter a bend.
The system also includes a speed-sensitive headlight range control function. With adaptive light systems, it is possible for the maximum range of the dipped beams and their lighting power to be adjusted as a function of the speed of the vehicle. PDLS takes care of this automatically in two stages. Stage 1 is the basic position, optimised for driving at lower speeds such as in city traffic. Stage 2 is designed for driving at faster speeds, such as when on the motorway. Another function of PDLS is the adverse weather function. Activated when you switch on the rear fog light, it reduces the effect of reflection phenomena in poor visibility conditions.

Automatic headlight activation
In the new Boxster models, automatic headlight activation is available as standard. The system automatically switches between daytime running lights and dipped beam based on ambient lighting conditions.

Airbags
To protect the driver and passenger, the new Boxster models are equipped with full-size airbags, which are inflated in two stages depending on the severity and type of accident (e. g. frontal or offset frontal). In less serious accidents, the airbags are only partially inflated, thereby minimising discomfort to the occupants.
In addition to the central airbag control unit on the transmission tunnel, a pair of impact sensors is located near the headlights. This allows a crash to be detected and evaluated far sooner and with considerably greater accuracy.
Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP)
Both new Boxster models are equipped as standard with the Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP). It comprises two side airbags on each side. An integral thorax airbag is located in the outer side bolster of each seat, while the door panels each contain an upwards-inflating head airbag. Each thorax airbag has a volume of 10 litres and each head airbag 15 litres, ensuring excellent protection in the event of a side impact even with the hood open. POSIP additionally includes steel side impact protection elements in the doors.

Roll-over protection
Dual roll-over protection creates survival space in the event of a roll-over or side impact. The front roll-over protection element is made from super and ultra high-strength steels. The rear roll-over bars located behind the seats are a composite construction of aluminium and steel. They are fully trimmed to blend in and provide an excellent level of safety. The upper seat belt guides are mounted on the roll-over bars for easier fastening.

Comfort

Steering wheels
Where your journey takes you is in your hands. For this reason, all available steering wheels feature a high-grip rim in smooth-finish leather and offer outstanding ergonomics. The reach from the steering wheel to the gear lever is short for sporty and fast gear changes.
In combination with the optional fully electric seats, the steering wheel is also electrically adjustable and for even more convenience, a memory function is included.
Sports steering wheel
The three-spoke sports steering wheel is fitted as standard and offers up to 40 mm of adjustment for both height and reach. The steering wheel rim is upholstered in smooth-finish leather. In conjunction with optional PDK, the steering wheel features two ergonomic switches. One press with the thumb and PDK shifts up. One pull with the index finger and PDK shifts down. Either the right or left hand can be used.
With the optional Sport Chrono Package and PDK, there is an additional display above the airbag module. It tells you whether the SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control functions are activated.
The optional multifunction steering wheel provides extra operating comfort with four function buttons and two thumbwheels for convenient operation of many audio, telephone and navigation functions.
SportDesign steering wheel
Visually, the optional SportDesign steering wheel is distinguished by its stylish twin-spoke design. It’s in safe hands, even on the sportiest of drives.
In conjunction with PDK, the steering wheel features two gearshift paddles. Made from a strong alloy, they are ergonomically located behind the right and left steering wheel spokes. Pull the right-hand paddle and PDK shifts up. Pull the left-hand paddle and PDK shifts down.
When combined with the optional Sport Chrono Package and PDK, the steering wheel has an additional display in the left- and right-hand spokes to indicate whether the SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control functions are activated.
Steering wheel heating
For extra comfort on those cold days, a heating function is available as an option for the sports steering wheel and the multifunction steering wheel. The heating is activated by a separate control button on the steering wheel and the rim is warmed to a pleasant temperature. Cold weather should never be a reason to prevent you from enjoying your open-top driving experience.

Seats

Sports seats
The standard Sports seats are comfortable and provide support even during performance driving. The seat centres are finished in Alcantara, a material renowned in motorsport for its durability. The seats are equipped as standard with electric backrest adjustment and manual height and fore/aft adjustment.

Sports seats Plus
The optional Sports seats Plus are upholstered in smooth-finish leather. The side bolsters of the seat squab and backrest are more prominently defined and have a firmer, more sporty padding for even better lateral support. The backrest shell up to the headrest has a Silver Grey Metallic paint finish. To help you find the optimum posture, the seats feature electric backrest adjustment and manual height and fore/aft adjustment.

Fully electric Sports seats
If you don’t want to sacrifice sportiness for comfort, the optional fully electric Sports seats offer fully electric adjustment of seat height, backrest angle, squab angle and squab depth. Also electrically operated are the fore/aft adjustment, four-way lumbar support and even the steering column. The memory function supports the exterior mirrors and all seat positions on the driver’s side as well as settings for the steering wheel, lights, wipers, two-zone automatic climate control (optional), door locks, PCM (optional) and instrument cluster.

Adaptive Sports seats Plus
The optional adaptive Sports seats Plus are the ideal combination of sport and comfort. Offering 18-way fully electric adjustment, the seats can be optimally adapted to meet your needs in terms of seat height, squab and backrest angle, squab length, fore/aft adjustment and four-way lumbar support. Steering column adjustment is also electronically supported.
In addition, the side bolsters on the seat squab and backrest are independently adjustable for added comfort on winding roads. Also included is the personal memory for all seat positions (apart from the side bolsters) on the driver’s side as well as the positions of the steering wheel and exterior mirrors. The memory function additionally supports settings for the lights, wipers, two-zone automatic climate control (optional), door locks, PCM (optional) and instrument cluster.

Seat heating and ventilation
Seat heating is available as an option for all seats. Seats are heated in the squab, backrest and side bolsters.
On request, we can equip all our seats with seat ventilation (only in conjunction with seat heating). A slipstream effect is produced by active ventilation of the perforated seat centre and backrest and by passive aeration at the side bolsters. This evaporates perspiration moisture and therefore makes for a dry and pleasant seating environment, even in hot weather.

Child seats
A Boxster should be enjoyed by passengers of all ages. ISOFIX child seat preparation is available as an option and includes a deactivation function for the passenger airbag.

CDR audio system
The CDR audio system is an ideal complement to the resonant engine sound of the new Boxster models. It features a 7-inch colour touchscreen, giving you quick and easy access to the most important functions and menus.
The integrated CD radio features an FM dual tuner and RDS diversity, 30 memory presets, dynamic autostore and speed-sensitive volume control. The system also includes a sound system with four loudspeakers and a total output of 2 x 25 watts. For an even more intense listening experience, the CDR audio system can be combined with the Sound Package Plus or the BOSE® Surround Sound System on request.

Additional Features

Light design package
The optional light design package comprises dimmable LEDs in the door panels, overhead console and footwells. LED lighting in the luggage compartments is additionally included.

ParkAssist
Optional ParkAssist is activated the moment you select reverse gear. An audible signal gives a warning if you reverse too close to an obstacle.
An enhanced version of ParkAssist also provides monitoring of the area to the front of the vehicle. Ultrasonic sensors are neatly integrated into the front and rear aprons. The audible alert is supplemented by a visual warning in the central display of the CDR audio system or optional PCM, which shows a graphical representation of the vehicle from overhead.

HomeLink® (programmable garage door opener)
The optional programmable garage door opener is integrated into the overhead console and remotely controls up to three different garage doors, gates, home lighting and/or alarm systems.

Hood

Fully electric hood
Think a sense of freedom isn’t available at the push of a button? Think again. The new Boxster models are equipped as standard with a fully electric hood. With the engine running, the opening and closing processes are completed in around nine seconds. The hood is operable up to a speed of 50 km/h (approx. 30 mph). When the vehicle is stationary, the hood can even be operated remotely using the vehicle key.
The newly styled hood design blends in elegantly with the contouring of the Boxster models. As a key design feature, it accentuates the new, stretched side view of the vehicle. The hood flows backwards and sweeps into the body. The especially powerful silhouette promises excellent dynamic performance and delivers impressive aerodynamics.
The hood stows away compactly above the engine compartment without reducing the luggage compartment volume. The hood motor runs exceptionally quietly and the modern soundproofing fabric is robust and improves interior acoustics. The large rear screen is made from glass and is electrically heated and scratch-resistant, so you can continue to enjoy your freedom whatever the weather.
