Exterior

The design of the new Quattroporte Sport GT S has a sporty emphasis, yet does not compromise on the style and elegance that have always epitomised Maserati’s flagship model.
The designers at Pininfarina have succeeded in their aim of giving the car a sportier edge whilst preserving the integrity of the original design. The new grille is the most obvious exterior change. It is now wider and has vertical slats that echo the GranTurismo, whilst its black finish maintains the original styling cues.
The deeper set grille is fitted to the front bumper, and is framed by the new fog lights and air intakes that have been enlarged to cope with the more powerful engine. The combination of the redesigned bumper and the new grille bestow the front end of the car with an immediate visual impact.
The front light cluster has also been redesigned and features a titanium finish. This underlines the more aggressive Quattroporte Sport GT S, a feeling reinforced by its xenon headlights and LED indicators.
Turning to the bodywork, the sweeping wing mirrors are more aerodynamic. The shape of the body below the doors lends the new model a more purposeful look. In profile, you can appreciate the car’s lowered stance: 10 mm at the front and 25 mm at the rear.
These few millimetres make all the difference. The car appears poised as if on the starting blocks, ready for action with its racier set-up perfectly complementing the new 440 bhp power unit. The car exudes speed even when it is stationary.
The Quattroporte Sport GT S comes with two new types of 20″ wheel rim: Multi Trident rims in light aluminium alloy as an option and seven-spoke light alloy rims that have undergone the ‘Dark Chrome’ treatment.

Interior

The most sporty model in the Quattroporte range also clearly proclaims its character through the style of its interior, using specific materials.
The seats, which are state of the art in terms of ergonomics and comfort, have a stylised M for Maserati on the backs. The central sections of the seats are upholstered in perforated Alcantara, for optimal breathability and a firm support during hard cornering; Alcantara is also used on the side panels, the front armrest, the steering-wheel and the gear lever knob.
The interior finishes on this version are a celebration of technology and workmanship. The material used is the groundbreaking TitanTex, an ultra-lightweight aluminium-coated titanium fibre fabric, made even more special by a specific processing, which gives the interior a high-tech, high-performance look, as well as a shinier, more three-dimensional overall appearance.
The steering paddles, integral with the steering column, have a decorative chromed finish that gives their edges definition: they are also longer in shape, to ensure a good grip even when the steering wheel is on a tight lock. The interior finishes are completed by the exclusive addition of the name of the model in relief on the dashboard.
Aluminium pedals are available as an optional: specially designed for racing-style driving, they provide outstanding grip when the brake and accelerator are depressed and released in quick succession.

Technology

Gearbox
The new Quattroporte Sport GT S is equipped with the MC-Auto Shift software package for racing-style control of gear changes.
In “MANUAL MODE” the driver controls gear shifts directly, and changes are permitted up to the redline on the rpm counter. For the most enjoyable, highest-performance driving experience, an electronic gear shift indicator in the middle of the dashboard tells the driver when it is the ideal timing of the gear change; this system, which enhances the pleasure and satisfaction of the driving experience when truly putting the car through its paces, is complemented by “Trofeo” style extra-long paddles behind the steering-wheel, ergonomically shaped for easier gear changes on the most demanding roads.
In AUTO SPORT mode, the gear shift control software activates the MC Start Strategy function. This function allows controlled starts enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 Km/h in just 5.1 seconds, instead of 5.3 seconds.
MANUAL SPORT and AUTO SPORT modes both also provide electronic heel and toeing during down-shifts; this, combined with the Quattroporte Sport GT S’s other characteristics, make this saloon car capable of unprecedented sporty performance.

Suspension
The Quattroporte Sport GT S is fitted with the single-setting racing-style suspension system: developed to further enhance the car’s handling, it makes its steering extremely sensitive and responsive.
The additional stiffening of the suspension by 30% at the front and 10% at the rear, together with a reduction in ground clearance of 10 mm on the front and 25 mm on the rear axle respectively, provides a substantial reduction in load transfers and more effective traction control during direction changes.

Steering
The electronic power steering is direct and precise at speed so the driver knows what the car is doing. At the same time, it is light and easy to use at lower speeds and when manoeuvring.

Weight distribution
The Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S’s weight distribution is unique in its category with a slight bias towards the rear end (49% front and 51% rear). This split transforms the luxury saloon into a car where performance is favoured and that rewards the driver with its superb handling. This set up was achieved by shifting the engine behind the front axle to maximise traction and acceleration while also making the car stable and perfectly balanced.

Brakes
The new Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S comes with a high performance braking system developed by Brembo. The 360 mm brake discs benefit from dual-cast technology: cast iron for the braking surface and an aluminium hub. This set up takes advantage of the consistent performance of cast iron at high temperatures and from the lightweight aluminium.
The six-piston callipers, of different diameters, are in a single aluminium block. These keep their shape better than two piece calliper sets and offer unbeatable stopping power.
The system is completed by the ABS, that stops the wheels locking under braking, and EBD, that distributes the braking force between the front and the rear axles; both systems are integrated into the Maserati Stability Programme (MSP). This solution offers excellent performance both in terms of stopping distance and resistance to brake fade, even under intense use. The Quattroporte Sport GT S’s brakes are always prompt in responding and live up to the standards you would expect from a Maserati saloon.

Lights
The new Quattroporte Sport GT S uses front and rear lights that have been developed to offer only the best in each individual function. The use of LEDs makes a big impact on the car and is one of the elements that link this model to the Maserati GranTurismo.
The most important lighting functions have been improved. The front xenon cluster now boasts the Adaptive Light Control system. This produces a brighter and clearer beam compared to conventional bulbs. The lights also automatically track the movements of the steering wheel so that the beam points to the inside of a curve (up to a maximum of 15º). For safety reasons, when the car is travelling above 120 km/h, the system returns to a traditional fixed position.
The Daytime Running Light function is a useful addition and is made up of ten LEDs set along the bottom edge of the headlight. The indicators catch the eye and the front headlights are memorable for their side-marks that merge flawlessly with the outside edge of the car, with the wiper forming part of the cluster. The fog lights employ an altogether different set up and are located in the bumper to ensure a wider beam.
This system is also used in the rear with 34 LEDs making up each light. This technology was employed because LEDs illuminate more quickly and produce a more intense beam than normal bulbs. They last longer, consume less energy and their performance does not dip over time.

Engine

The Quattroporte Sport GT S is fitted with the most powerful engine in the Quattroporte range.
Capable of 450 HP at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 510 Nm at 4,750 rpm, it raises the car’s performance to unprecedented levels. These figures have been achieved not only by modifying the engine’s electronic control parameters, but also through in-depth development of the racing exhaust system, a real jewel of engineering installed on this version.
The system is controlled by air valves that open in SPORT mode to reduce back-pressure in the exhaust; this increases the maximum power available, and creates a throaty roar at low engine speeds and full symphonic sound of a genuine sports car at higher rpm.

The Maserati GranTurismo is the first modern, two-door, four-seater coupé that delivers much more than its sensual beauty initially suggests. Pininfarina latest creation was destined for greatness right from its debut at the 2007 Geneva Motorshow. The car can trace its heritage right back to the very first GranTurismo produced by Maserati, the 1947 A6 1500 GT Pininfarina and it also incorporates the innovation and impact of the Birdcage 75th, the futuristic concept car that, in 2005, suggested the lines for future Maserati models.
For over sixty years Maserati has been a leading constructor of luxury automobiles. The marque is renowned for its high performance, comfort and overall safety. The GranTurismo does not stray from this tradition thanks to its distinct personality, its perfect blend of power and elegance, its adventurous design and surprising practicality.
The muscular and aerodynamic shape has been carefully studied down to the smallest details and is the fruit of extensive wind tunnel testing. This build quality is continued in the mechanical components: the V8 engine has all the characteristics of a competition-level power unit. It was developed to respond instantly to the accelerator and reward with previously unheard of driving pleasure.
The GranTurismo scores top marks when it comes to style, technology and craftsmanship, characteristics that have been recognised by its winning numerous international ‘Best Car’ awards. This is testimony to the competence, professionalism and attention to detail that makes each Maserati truly unique.

Exteriors

The grand touring coupé reinvented with a balance of grace and aggression
However you look at it, the Maserati GranTurismo expresses dynamic tension and a sporty edge: the large oval grille, the bodywork that seems to be drawn tight over the frame like a figure hugging dress, right down to the rear flanks. Pininfarina has created an elegant and sensual look around the idea that is the GranTurismo project. Sportiness is combined with true space for four. This sleek appearance, combined with solidity and grace, provokes a fascinating mix of sensations.
Unique and unmistakably Maserati, the GranTurismo’s grille features concave vertical slats. A chrome Trident logo is suspended in its center. The front headlights are an aggressive addition to the radically sloping front bumper, a stylistic element that has long distinguished Maserati coupés. In the space between the crests of the front fenders is the traditional long, low hood. The bonnet’s classic ‘V’ shape is a feature that is echoed throughout the car.
The traditional Maserati design element of three chrome-ringed air vents set behind the front wheels lend the GranTurismo an even more vibrant feel. The car’s lines were designed to lead the eye fluidly over its curves, from the stunning front end to the sweeping rear.
Moving further down the side of the GranTurismo, the oval version of the Maserati logo (known as ‘Saetta’) stands out on the rear pillars. The elegant shape concludes at the rear light cluster, featuring LED lights, in a daring triangle. Wide aerodynamic diffusers sit under the sculpted bumper.
The styling themes continue inside the cabin, as can only be done when a car is designed as a singular piece by a talent such as Pininfarina. Inside the V design element can be seen in the dashboard below the Maserati clock, and is also picked up in the seat design, uniting the interior and exterior.
The GranTurismo transcends style and instead enters into the rarefied world of true beauty.

Interiors
The Maserati GranTurismo’s interior charms the driver and passengers
The interior of the Maserati GranTurismo combines captivating design and prestigious materials with the luxury that only space and light can provide. The cabin has been developed to render the GranTurismo not only a high performance sportscar but a vehicle able to stir the senses of driver and passengers alike.
The Poltrona Frau® leather upholstery undergoes careful treatment before it is ready to be used in a Maserati. The electronically controlled front seats strike a balance between comfort and support needed for spirited driving. The ‘Easy Entry’ system powers the front seats forward to allow ample space for rear passengers to climb on board and share in the roomy and refined atmosphere.
The Maserati GranTurismo renders life on board a joy: from the pleasure of taking curve after curve to the elevated comfort levels for all the passengers provided in the roomy cabin. Even the occupants’ belongings are well cared for with numerous finished pockets and storage compartments.
Luxury is united with ergonomics and comfort, an enthralling combination that can be appreciated in the satisfying scent of the leather, the precious wood and the detail of the stitching.
The cabin has been handcrafted and the care taken in its construction is clear. The finish is clean but exquisitely refined, from the subtle chrome rings that surround the dashboard and steering wheel switches to the Trident logo on the headrests and the Alcantara used on the back of the gearshift paddles.
The standard cutting-edge Bose Surround Sound® audio system further improves on-board enjoyment. The placement of the eleven speakers was studied intensively in order to adapt them to the cabin’s acoustics, resulting in musical reproduction similar to that found in the best concert halls.
Open the trunk and equal care can be seen in the luggage space that can hold two regular sized golf bags or the exclusive five-piece luggage set created especially for the Maserati GranTurismo by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Technology

Engine
The Maserati GranTurismo is powered by an eight cylinder 4,244 cc V90° engine, one that is part of the company’s new range of power units. The engine develops 405 bhp at 7,100 rpm, equivalent to 96.4 bhp/litre. Compact and light, the cylinder heads are made of aluminium alloy and silicon. The 32 valves are actioned by two overhead camshafts per bank while the overhead camshafts on the aspirated side are controlled by a low pressure, continual phase variator. The lubrication system features a wet sump, which means a reduction in noise, making the cabin an even quieter place to be. The engine produces a reassuring burble that never interferes with the driving experience.
The exhaust connected to the V8 meets the most stringent anti-pollution regulations but does not compromise the car’s performance. On a technical level, metal has replaced ceramic as the material of choice for the catalysers, the same as those found on competition cars.
The acceleration provided by the Maserati V8 is immediate, and, thanks to the electronic ‘drive by wire’ throttle control, the car responds to even the slightest touch on the pedal.

Gearbox
The Maserati GranTurismo’s new hydraulic gearbox brings out the best in the engine. The self-adapting automatic gearbox is especially useful at the low-mid range revs while top end power doesn’t suffer. Gear changes can be made right up to 7200 rpm, a rate that no other automatic transmission in the world can match.
There are four function modes: Auto Normal is for comfortable cruising, Auto Sport is for those who like a sportier, more involving drive, Auto ICE is for low grip conditions and then there is Manual mode. In manual, it is the driver who chooses when to change gear via the steering wheel paddles.

Chassis
The Maserati GranTurismo reacts brilliantly thanks to its perfect weight distribution: 49% of the car’s weight sits over the front end and 51% on the rear. This set up was achieved by shifting the engine behind the front axle and it gives the driver an unparalleled sense of security in any conditions.
The load-bearing chassis means greater rigidity and its high-resistance, box-steel structure allows the suspension to track every dip in the terrain. This enhances the car’s dynamic handling and ensures a more comfortable drive.

Suspension
The Maserati GranTurismo’s precise handling benefits from front and rear wishbone suspension. The system’s ‘anti-dive’ and ‘anti-squat’ geometry prevents the front from dipping under braking and the rear end from squatting under acceleration.
As an option, the GranTurismo can be equipped with the Skyhook system of shock absorbers with an aluminium body that continually adjust the damping. This technology automatically selects the optimal level of damping and integrates with the MSP safety system and the calibration of the car’s automatic gearbox. The result is that the car is able to adapt to the characteristics of each driver; the GranTurismo is a car that fits like a glove.

The Skyhook system
The aluminium bodied, gas-regulated Skyhook set up assures the automatic and continuous control of the damping whatever the road condition. It does this without affecting on-board comfort, penalising performance or compromising the car’s sporty nature.
The Skyhook system acts by using acceleration sensors that detect movement on all four wheels and the body. A control unit processes the data it receives from the sensors, analyses the driving style and road surface and instantly adjusts the dampers accordingly via their proportional valves.
However, as the Skyhook and transmission is data from the sensors is fed to the same point, Maserati engineers have integrated the two systems. So, the GranTurismo is able to tweak the suspension settings so that the driver feels even less movement through the chassis during gear changes.
Opting for the ‘Sport’ setting results in a stiffer ride, less roll, more contained load transfer, greater agility and stability as well as allowing stunning performance figures. The dedicated on board computer reduces gear shifts by 40% and Skyhook switches from controlling the ride to focusing on the set up (body control), making the GranTurismo easier to handle and giving it more grip. Together, the two systems combine to offer more precise, livelier gear changes.

Personalisation

Maserati creates a unique GranTurismo for each client
Maserati offers a personalisation programme for the GranTurismo that is unlike any other in the world. This programme has been developed with the objective of allowing each client to create a made-to-measure car. Such a level of exclusivity is a source of pride for Maserati, a small company able to devote the highest levels of care and attention to every car it builds and guarantee the client a wider range of finishes than its competitors.
The infinite personalisation options render each GranTurismo unique; the cars are handcrafted in order to express the driver’s own personality and become at one with him.
There are approximately eight million possible interior combinations, so it is possible to make a style statement that is both personal and individual. There are ten colours of leather, thirteen for the stitching, five for the carpets, three types of prestigious wood and five lacquer finishes; a variety that will satisfy even the most demanding clients.
Both wheel rim designs are available in three colours and you can choose from six hues for the brake callipers.

The Car Configurator
Maserati provides excellent support in configuring even the smallest details on the GranTurismo. The Car Configurator gives the client the opportunity to create his ideal car online and ensure that the combination he has chosen, including the colour of the leather and materials, the finish of the headlining, the stitching and the carpets, truly encapsulates his desire.

L’Atelier Maserati
Visitors to the Modena headquarters can make the most of expert help on hand to creating their dream car, just as they would for a bespoke suit styled by a master tailor, by visiting the Atelier Maserati.
The Atelier provides examples of the available interior options on a special table showing colour samples of the leathers, the carpets, the stitching and the finishes. Clients can also browse both interior and exterior colours and personally experience how the different materials combine with one another, allowing them to check the options selected on the Car Configurator.

Introduction

Imagine being at the roadside on the Via Emilia – the heart of a region famed for its motoring links – on a cool summer morning. You hear the unmistakable sound of an engine before a powerful car appears. On the car’s grille sits the Maserati badge. The car is a cabriolet. There can be no mistake: it is the GranCabrio.
The name, GranCabrio, evokes Maserati’s renowned traditions and experience, tying the new vehicle to the GranTurismo concept and bringing to life past GranSports. At the same time, the name underlines how much the car differs from every model that has preceded it. The GranCabrio redefines the idea of a cabriolet.
The open-top, four-seater GranCabrio offers the chance to share a fantastic driving experience with those you love, one enhanced by top quality materials, the aroma of prestigious woods and refined leather. GranCabrio is Maserati’s exclusive take on the need to live exciting experiences in company as opposed to the mania of owning things just for the sake of it.
GranCabrio is designed for those who take pleasure from good taste and who appreciate Italian power and elegance. However, they do not want to be limited by using the car just as a couple or not being able to at all because there is a new addition to the family. In the GranCabrio the joy of sharing experiences reaches previously unattainable heights.

Exteriors

The Maserati GranCabrio manages to be both dynamic and elegant. The car draws its inspiration from the GranTurismo, an example of the perfect synthesis of modernity, sensuality and passion.
Created by master coachbuilder Pininfarina, the GranCabrio is characterised by its soft-top roof. This styling bonds the GranCabrio closely with the company’s refined traditions.
When closed, the rear pillar – one that does not, in fact, exist – is mimicked in the hood’s smart, forward-slanting design, giving the GranCabrio the dashing looks of a coupé.
Once open, the Maserati GranCabrio transforms into an astounding cabriolet, free to show off all its sinuous, feline beauty. The vibrant side-on view is accentuated by the reduced ground clearance and long bonnet. A stylish ‘V’ points towards the grille, in the middle of which is a large chrome Trident.
The flanks also feature chrome elements that give the GranCabrio some added gloss. One particularly goodlooking feature is the continuous chrome trim that encircles the cabin and integrates with the third rear stop light.
Towards the back of the car, the triangular light cluster is formed by 96 LEDs with a wide diffuser that further underlines the car’s athletic poise. This sporty feel is also seen in the generous 20” wheel rims that reflect the Trident design.
The shape of the GranCabrio is the result of extensive aerodynamic testing aimed at limiting the drag typical of droptop cars. The GranCabrio boasts a Cx coefficient that is one of the best in its class: 0.35 with the hood up and 0.39 with it down. The spoiler and rear diffuser both contribute to obtaining top draw roadholding.

Interiors

The Maserati GranCabrio is the only real droptop in its class to offer enough space for four adults, seated in an elegant and luxurious cabin. The space inside is much greater than the average for its category and ensures the maximum comfort even for passengers in the rear.
The interior is divided by a central tunnel that distributes the space between the occupants along the car’s length. The dashboard extends horizontally and its upper section features a characteristic ‘V’, a distinctive Maserati symbol.
The GranCabrio’s cabin is easy on the eye and invites you to touch it. Only the finest materials were employed in its build: the leather was handcrafted by Poltrona Frau® and a selection of prestigious woods was used for the dashboard, door panel and rear flank features. The level of craftsmanship and attention to detail can also be seen in the chrome rings that enhance the dashboard switches and steering wheel as well as the Alcantara finish on the back of the steering wheel paddles.
Adding to the on-board comfort is the canvas hood, one made up of three layers to censure excellent acoustic isolation. With the top down and with just two on board, it is possible to minimise interior air flow thanks to the windstop developed specially for the GranCabrio (available as an option).
On the Maserati GranCabrio, the air conditioning has been tweaked to offer the maximum comfort levels both with the top up or down. The system recognises how the car is being used by automatically reprogramming the emissions mixed with air to maintain the set temperature.

Technology

Engine
The engine on the Maserati GranCabrio is an eight cylinder, 4691cc V90° capable of developing 440 hp at 7000 rpm and with a peak torque of 490 Nm at 4750 rpm. The power unit uses the advanced technology typical of all Maserati engines. This allows the declared power figures to be reached, ensures smooth gear changes and a quiet engine.
The timing is actioned by two overhead camshafts per bank and four valves per cylinder controlled by hydraulic tappets. The overhead camshafts on the aspirated side are controlled by a low pressure, continual phase variator, a technical solution that, together with the optimisation of the combustion chamber, allows 82% of the maximum torque from 2500 rpm for a superb overtaking, even in high gears.

Transmission
The Maserati GranCabrio features a six-speed, ZF automatic transmission with a hydraulic torque converter to give extremely fluid gear shifts while maintaining the characteristics of the sporty V8 engine.
The transmission has four modes and is also fitted with self-adapting control that adjusts the type of gear change to the driving style and road conditions.
In Manual mode, gear changes are sequentially made by the driver via the steering column mounted paddles or the gearstick.

Exhaust
The engine noise is emphasised by the sports exhaust managed by the by-pass valve. Pushing the Sport button opens the pneumatic valves if the car is on the move and the engine above 3000 rpm. This means that the engine can be exploited to the full, giving a rewarding engine roar. This becomes even more gripping with the hood down, making the car one with its surroundings.

Chassis
The weight distribution on the Maserati GranCabrio is slightly biased towards the rear with 49% over the front and 51% over the back with the hood up. With the hood down, the front-rear split is 48-52%.
This set up was achieved by stationing the engine behind the front axle and results in true and predictable handling that makes driving easier and renders the car more stable.
The new loadbearing chassis is constructed from a blend of materials with an eye on keeping the weight down. The framework is made from toughened steel apart from the bonnet and front bumper bar, in aluminium, and the boot lid in heat treated plastic that uses Sheet Moulding Compound technology.
The chassis was developed to provide maximum stiffness even without a roof. The result is that the Maserati GranCabrio is able to offer the same driving pleasure as any quality closed-top car.

Suspension
The Maserati GranCabrio is fitted with the electronically controlled Skyhook suspension as standard. This system employs dampers with an aluminium body that continually adjust the damping. This solution means that the set up adapts instantly to the driving style and the road conditions to offer the utmost in on-board comfort.
The Skyhook system acts by using acceleration sensors that detect movement on all four wheels and the body. A control unit processes the data it receives from the sensors, analyses the driving style and road surface and instantly adjusts the dampers accordingly via their proportional valves.

Electronics
The car’s already superb dynamic handling is constantly monitored and optimised by the Maserati Stability Programme (MSP). The MSP kicks in to correct even the hint of a skid by reducing torque. Working with the ABS and EBD, the system stops the wheels locking under braking, distributes the braking between the front and rear axles. It also prevents the wheels spinning on low grip surfaces when accelerating or climbing (ASR and MSR).

Hood
The Maserati GranCabrio’s canvas hood was a technological as well as aesthetic choice. The soft top solution means a lower centre of gravity because the bottom of the car is heavier. This enhances the car’s dynamic handling.
The hood weighs only 65kg and the materials, mechanism, its operation time and stowage are all top quality. The GranCabrio transforms from a splendid coupé into a cabriolet in just 28 seconds if the car is travelling up to 30 km/h.

Safety

The Maserati GranCabrio is on a par with the highest safety standards in its category thanks to the adoption of innovative active and passive safety features.

Active safety
The dynamic handling on the GranCabrio is assisted by the electronically controlled Maserati Stability Programme (MSP). The technology was developed to optimise the driving dynamics and safety when on the move. The system is supervised by a series of sensors that pick up any unsteadiness to adjust the brakes and engine and provide ideal traction.
The high performance brakes on the GranCabrio were built by Brembo and feature four self-ventilating drilled discs. The 360 mm front brakes make the most of co-cast disc technology (cast iron for the braking surface and an aluminium hat). This solution, teamed with callipers actioned by six pistons in a single aluminium block, ensure unbeatable stopping power and are highly resistant to fade even under intense use.
MSP works in harmony with the ABS to stop the wheels locking under braking, and EBD, to distribute the braking between the front and rear axles.
The Electric Park Brake (EPB) replaces the traditional mechanical handbrake with an electronic control on the central tunnel. The EPB system is engaged automatically when the engine is switched off and is only deactivated when the accelerator pedal is pressed. EPB also plays an important role in terms of safety as, in an emergency, it acts on all four wheels and can be employed with the vehicle in movement, without compromising stability, until the switch is released.
The Brake Assist System (BAS) has been introduced on the Maserati GranCabrio to improve safety. Thanks to a dedicated sensor, BAS recognises panic braking by measuring the speed at which the brake pedal is depressed and clamps the brake pad to the disc before the driver even begun braking. This shortens the stopping distance in emergency situations.

Passive safety
The Maserati GranCabrio is fitted with new generation airbags, using the intelligent technology first employed on the Maserati Quattroporte S. The passenger side airbag, with its ‘Low Risk Deployment’, adapts the intensity of its inflation in crash situations to the size of the occupant.
New head and chest airbags set in the front seats provide protection from side impacts while seatbelts are equipped with the latest pre-tensioners and load limiters to securely contain all four occupants.
The main introduction in terms of passive safety is the extendable roll bars set behind the rear seats. The roll bars are hidden by the hood cover and are activated in just 190 milliseconds when needed.

The extendable roll bars were developed to offer occupants the maximum protection both with the hood raised or tucked away. A Maserati copyrighted technical solution allows the roll bars to extend by shattering the rear window without any risk for the occupants.

Personalisation

The GranCabrio introduces new personalisation options to the Maserati range
Maserati offers a personalisation programme that is unlike any other in the world. This programme has been developed with the objective of allowing each client to create a made-to-measure car. Such a level of exclusivity is a source of pride for Maserati, a small company able to devote the highest levels of care and attention to every car it builds and guarantee the client a wider range of finishes than its competitors.
The personalisation options on the GranCabrio have been enhanced by the soft top hood, available in six colours, and by the introduction of two new Poltrona Frau® tints, Bianco Polare and Blu Profondità. The colours are available on the Maserati range for the first time and were developed for their harmony with the exterior colours and hood.
The dashboard, door panels and rear side panels are available in the new ‘Dark Chrome’ standard colour but it is also possible to choose from various lacquer finishes or precious woods, among them Carbalho and Moonwood.
In terms of the mechanics, there are two colours for the wheel rims (Silver or Grigio Mercuri) and six colours for the brake callipers.

The Car Configurator
Maserati provides excellent support in configuring even the smallest details on the GranCabrio. The Car Configurator gives the client the opportunity to create his ideal car online and ensure that the combination he has chosen, including the colour of the leather and materials, the finish of the headlining, the stitching and the carpets, is really what he wants.

Atelier Maserati
Visitors to the Modena headquarters can make the most of expert help in creating their dream car by using the Atelier Maserati, just like they would for a suit styled by a master tailor.
The Atelier provides examples of the available options for the interior thanks to a special table showing colour samples of the leathers, the carpets, the stitching and the finishes. Clients can also browse colours for the interior and exterior and feel for themselves how the different materials combine with one another, allowing them to check the options selected on the Car Configurator.

Overview

Completing the DBS line-up, the new Volante affords customers the combination of the DBS’s already-established sports car characteristics with all the thrills associated with a drop-top. The DBS Volante sits atop Aston Martin’s convertible lineup, which also includes the mechanically identical DBS Volante and Virage Volante models.

To ensure a top-speed beyond 190 mph, the same 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine found in the DBS coupe also powers the convertible. With 510 horsepower and a 420 lb-ft. of torque, the DBS Volante will accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in just a 4.3 seconds.

The DBS Volante comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, and has an optional Touchtronic six-speed automatic transmission.

Like the DBS coupe, the DBS Volante uses carbon fiber to form the hood, trunk and front fenders — resulting in increased performance through weight reduction. The top drops in just 14 seconds at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. It stows beneath an automatic, hard tonneau.

The DBS Volante does come with a pair of small rear seats, but even the automaker admits that they’re best left for children or luggage.

This high-performance luxury convertible features an Adaptive Damping System (ADS, which is specifically tuned for the DBS Volante and helps to maximize ride comfort. It uses two separate valves to set the dampers to five different positions, allowing instant adjustment of the car’s ride and handling characteristics. The ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to ensure the driver has high levels of control at all times, with the ability to respond instantly to different driving conditions. The dampers can be set to ‘soft,’ with a corresponding improvement in ride quality, or ‘firm,’ providing improved body control for more spirited driving.

Standard equipment includes Bang & Olufsen’s BeoSound DBS audio system, consisting of 13 individual speakers and Bang & Olufsen’s unique Digital Signal Processing system. The DSP system transforms the DBS Volante into an acoustically sophisticated venue, capable of sensing when the roof is up or retracted and adjusts the sound stage to compensate for wind noise and change in acoustics.

The rest of the in-car entertainment includes an I-pod connector, USB connection, a HDD satellite navigation system

After numerous potential buyers expressed interest in Aston Martin’s track-only V12 Zagato, the iconic British automaker has decided to bring the car to life in the form of an extremely limited production run of just 150 examples for the wealthiest and most discerning buyers. Based on the V12 Vantage, the V12 Zagato features unique styling as well as numerous performance upgrades.

Although not yet in production, the V12 Zagato already has an impressive pedigree of sorts, with the model reaching back to heritage that includes the DB4GT Zagato, as well as the recent accomplishment of a pair of V12 Zagato racecars successfully completing the 39th ADAC Nurburgring 24 Hour race.

The road-going V12 Zagato is priced from 330,000 GBP, or roughly $525,000 (U.S.), complete with the fairly outlandish styling by Aston Martin’s traditionally conservative styling standards.

Power will be more than ample thanks to a 510 horsepower, 420 lb-ft of torque V12, attached to a rear mid-mounted, six-speed automated manual gearbox with auto shift manual/select shift manual modes to designate power distribution, while taking advantage of a magnesium alloy torque tube that has a carbon fiber propeller shaft. Aston also utilizes a twin-plate competition-grade clutch and a limited slip differential.

To harness all of that power are ventilated floating grooved discs with six-piston calipers for the front, with ventilated floating grooved discs with four-piston calipers reporting for duty in the rear. The suspension is an independent double wishbone setup with fully adjustable multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear.

All of the aforementioned racing technology is either mated to, sits below or rests upon an ultra-lightweight hand crafted aluminum and carbon fiber body.

Only 150 examples are to be produced, beginning in the second half of 2012.

Key Competitors
Supercar rivals to the V12 Zagato are numerous, though none can quite match the exclusivity of the Aston. The Audi R8 V10 combines a brutish motor with a user-friendly chassis, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG serves up a combination of power, elegance and luxury, the Porsche 911 Turbo S uses Teutonic engineering prowess to provide blistering acceleration while the Ferrari 458 Italia brings Formula 1 technology and performance to the road.

Overview

The Aston Martin One-77 is a supercar with a name as unique as its style and approach to performance. While smaller engines being force-fed copious amounts of air via super and turbochargers is the new craze in the auto industry, Aston Martin decided to take a decidedly old school approach to the One-77 and its massive, naturally aspirated 7.3-liter V12.

The One-77′s naturally aspirated 7.3-liter V12 is derived from Aston’s 6.0-liter powerplant, but with power upped to a massive 750 horsepower with torque checking in at 533 lb-ft. Even more impressive is the fact that Aston Martin and Cosworth engineers sought out to decrease engine weight by 10 percent while bumping its displacement by 1.3-liters, but instead actually achieved a 25 percent weight reduction.

The end result of the impressive tinkering by Aston Martin and Cosworth engineers is the ability to say the One-77 is the most powerful naturally aspirated (non super or turbocharged) road car on the planet.

But the powertrain advancement doesn’t stop there, that beastly powerplant is then mated to an all-new six-speed sequential manual – or in other words, an automatic with paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel. This transmission was designed exclusively for the One-77, marking a new generation of transmission for the automaker.

Power is then transferred to the ground via Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires (255/35 ZR20 front, 335/30 ZR20 rear) developed specifically for the One-77. Behind the 20-inch wheels are lightweight Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes with caliper internals that have been re-engineered to transmit less heat from the brake pads into the brake fluid, while the discs themselves have been developed to ensure the maximum possible contact area between the face of the disc and the brake pads.

Aston Martin says that due to the One-77’s sky-high performance aspirations, special attention has also been paid to brake cooling, as the brakes have less time to cool between bursts of acceleration.

The brakes also get a break due to the relatively low weight of the car, which comes in at 3,300 lbs. The result is improved handling and stopping power, zero-to-60 sprints of just 3.5 seconds and a top speed north of 200 miles per hour.

Dimensionally, the One-77 is shorter than the DB9, lower than the Vantage and has a track of six and a half feet – only eight inches narrower than a Hummer H1.

Another incredibly unique aspect of the One-77 is the exclusivity and uniqueness about the car. Only 77 examples (hence the name) will ever be built, with no two cars being exactly alike thanks to a customization system befit of a seven-figure supercar. Because of this custom build approach, pricing ranges from approximately $1.5 to $2 million.

This daunting “one-off” approach presents a very unique challenge to Aston Martin as they must find a way to truly differentiate 77 examples of this single model in order to remain true to their promise.

Key Competitors
Though buyers at this price point are likely quite sure of what they want, the One-77 could conceivably be cross-shopped against the Bugatti Veyron, which currently holds the production car top speed record, as well as less expensive but still exotic

Exterior

SmartAccess
With a unique secure code, the SmartAccess key fob automatically enables you to unlock the vehicle’s front doors and its available power rear door without removing the key fob from your purse, pocket or briefcase. As soon as the sensors detect your SmartAccess key fob, the door unlocks when you touch the handle. SmartAccess even activates the lighting entry system to illuminate your points of entry from the exterior puddle lights to the interior lights. Once inside, it just takes a push of the button to start the engine.

Adaptive Front Lighting System
A particularly useful feature when driving at night or during inclement weather, the available Adaptive Front Lighting System is designed to estimate and illuminate where the RX 450h will be in three seconds based on vehicle speed and steering angle. In a left turn, the left headlamp can rotate up to 15 degrees, and in a right turn, the right headlamp can rotate up to 10 degrees.

Intelligent High-Beam Headlamps
Helping to provide greater visibility to the driver without compromising the visibility of other drivers on the road, the available intelligent high-beam headlamps on the RX 450h operate in high-beam mode until a camera mounted in the back of the rearview mirror detects an oncoming vehicle or other vehicles traveling closely ahead. The headlamps will then automatically enter into low-beam mode until vehicles are no longer detected ahead.

Wide-view Side Monitor
To assist you with parking and when negotiating narrow passes, an available Wide-view Side Monitor camera built into the passenger-side mirror can display an overhead view to the right of the RX 450h at slow speeds or when in reverse.

Backup Camera
Backing out of tight spaces and avoiding mishaps is much easier with the available backup camera . Using a tiny camera located above the rear license plate to capture a view of what’s behind the RX 450h when placed in reverse, the camera’s view is displayed in full color on a screen within the rearview mirror or on the available Navigation System screen.

Power Rear Door
The available power rear door of the RX 450h offers remote, keyless access to the rear storage area. The lift-gate can be raised and lowered from inside the vehicle by using a switch or remotely with the included key fob.

Next-Generation Design
With sharp dramatic lines and a distinctive trapezoid grille, the 2012 RX 450h shares many design cues with the current Lexus sedans. It also features standard 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and can be outfitted with available 19-inch split-five-spoke alloy wheels that are exclusive to the RX 450h.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
This advanced system available on the RX 450h with all-wheel drive is designed to adapt to traffic congestion by using radar technology to help maintain a pre-set following distance from the vehicle traveling in front of you. If you get too close, the throttle is automatically reduced and brakes are applied. Once the road clears, the RX 450h will return to its pre-set speed.

Intuitive Parking Assist
Available sensors integrated into the front and rear bumpers help detect how close your vehicle is to surrounding objects. Audible warning tones and graphics in the multi-information console display and an available navigation screen assist the driver in knowing the location and proximity of objects around the vehicle.

Rear Spoiler
The rear spoiler on the RX 450h diffuses the air flowing over the back of the vehicle, decreasing turbulence, and contributing to a remarkably low coefficient of drag and excellent fuel efficiency. Beyond these primary functions, the spoiler also houses an additional rear taillamp and conceals the radio antenna and rear-window wiper for a sleeker appearance from behind.

Interior

Voice-Activated HDD Navigation System
The available voice-activated Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation System on the RX 450h utilizes a high–resolution eight-inch LCD placed close to eye level to help you remain focused on the road. An intuitive interface was also developed to display a linear progression of your commands as you use different functions within the system. Featuring voice–command technology, you can search for destinations using your regular speaking voice and more natural phrasing. “Show me Chinese restaurants,” from the destination menu, for example, will display locations in your immediate vicinity. And once a destination is selected, the system will calculate up to three different routes and provide audible and visual directions as you drive.
The system also features NavTraffic™, which can provide real-time traffic reports on specific highways or routes and reroute you around congestion. And, for the first time on a utility vehicle, NavWeather™ , which can provide real-time weather reports for specific cities and even automatically alert you of severe weather. A complimentary 90-day trial subscription to SiriusXM services is included.

Heads-up Display
The available Heads-up Display system on the RX 450h AWD can project simple navigation directions, audio information and vehicle speed onto the windshield in front of you, so you can spend more time focused on the road ahead. Unlike other Heads-up Display systems that provide intersection names, requiring the driver to locate street signs, the navigation directions on the system in the RX 450h are provided using a countdown of the remaining distance before an action needs to be taken and an animated arrow that guides you intuitively through turns.

Mark Levinson® Premium Surround Sound Audio System and Lexus Premium Surround Sound Audio System
The placement and angle of every speaker and the careful consideration of every component were essential in the development of the Lexus Premium Audio System in the RX 450h. The result is a system that immerses the driver and passenger in remarkably vivid sound. For the true audiophile, an available 15-speaker Mark Levinson® Premium Surround Sound Audio System uses 7.1-channel architecture and 330 watts of maximum power, all channels driven at less than 0.1% THD, 20–20,000 Hz, to deliver a virtual sweet spot of sound that encompasses the entire cabin in sound quality that was once only reserved for six-figure home-audio systems.

Dual-Screen Rear-Seat Entertainment System
An available dual-screen Rear-Seat Entertainment System allows the left and right rear-seat passengers to watch or listen to the audio or video source of their choosing through independent A/V inputs. With seven-inch LCD screens located behind the driver’s and front passenger’s headrests, each system features a pair of wireless headphones and can be used as a DVD player, audio player or game console via audio and video input jacks. For your convenience, a single remote controls both systems, and a standard electrical outlet is also provided.

Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
Whatever the weather, the available heated and ventilated front seats will be appreciated. On cold days, the seats can be heated to one of three settings through zones distributed throughout the seatbacks and lower seat cushions. For optimal comfort, the amount of heat provided varies by the location of the zone (your thighs get more heat than your upper back, for instance). In warmer weather, you can select from three ventilation settings to have fans housed inside the seatbacks and cushions circulate air through perforations in the leather trim.

Multi-Adjustable Rear Seats
The RX 450h’s rear seat is divided into three seating areas via a 40/20/40 split. To provide optimal comfort to your rear-seat passengers, each seating area can be individually adjusted in a variety of ways. For instance, seatbacks can be reclined up to 12 degrees. A leather-trimmed center armrest can be folded down for the outboard passengers. And each seat can slide independently, providing additional legroom or cargo space. For your convenience, there are also multiple ways to fold the rear seats flat: Ergonomic levers are located on sides of the outboard seats, and remote levers are located on either side of the cargo area.

Adaptable Cargo Area
The folding 40/20/40-split rear seats can slide forward or backward with little effort. Also included is a two-part tonneau cover which conceals valuables or loose gear when the rear hatch is closed and separates when the rear hatch is opened, enabling you to access items in the cargo area without retracting the cover. For added convenience, the rear seats fold effortlessly with remote levers on either side of the rear-door opening.

Multi-Information Display with Steering-Wheel Switchgear
The multi-information display on the RX 450h uses white OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology. Unlike conventional TFT displays that require backlighting, the OLED display on the RX 450h offers superior visibility through vibrant self-luminescent characters sharply displayed on a high-contrast black background and ensures readability from an angle wide enough for even the front passenger to read. A multi-information switch on the steering wheel enables the driver to operate the available Intuitive Park Assist, Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) and to select an array of other personalized settings without removing your hands from the steering wheel.

HomeLink® Remote Control
The HomeLink® universal transceiver allows you to control up to three compatible remote devices—the garage door, your entry gate, even the living room lights—all with the touch of a button.

Courtesy Lamps
From exterior puddle lamps to the illuminated vehicle Power button, it’s easy to navigate the interior of an RX 450h. Overhead spotlamps are located above the front and rear seating areas, as well as in the driver and front-passenger footwell areas.

Performance

Hybrid Powertrain
The 2012 RX 450h features a 3.5-liter V6 Atkinson-cycle engine that works differently than conventional engines to convert more of the energy generated during combustion into mechanical energy. It also features a hybrid battery that is lighter and more compact than that found in the previous-generation RX Hybrid. As a result of these advancements, the RX 450h produces a combined 295 horsepower and provides instantaneous torque when you need it most.
The RX 450h includes innovative systems that contribute to efficiency and a fuel-economy rating that surpasses that of an average four-cylinder midsize sedan. One of these systems is an Exhaust Heat-Recovery system that captures a portion of the exhaust gasses generated during startup and uses them to help warm the gasoline engine. On cold days, this can significantly reduce the time it takes for the RX 450h to reach a point where it can shut off the gasoline engine and function on battery power alone, by up to 15 minutes in some cases.

ECO Mode
To encourage a more efficient driving style, the RX 450h features an ECO mode that modifies the air conditioning’s load on the engine and regulates the throttle response for more efficient acceleration. Under certain conditions, the RX 450h can be operated in EV mode where it can function on battery power alone—a particularly useful feature when driving in residential areas at night and in enclosed areas like parking garages.

ECVT Automatic Transmission with Intelligent Shift Control System
The Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission with intelligence (ECVT-i) on the RX 450h uses power from the engine and hybrid battery to drive the front wheels with peak efficiency. And, because it doesn’t have gears like a traditional transmission, shift shock is eliminated for smoother acceleration. The RX 450h is also the first hybrid utility vehicle to feature an Electronic continuously Variable Transmission with Intelligent Shift Control system. Enabling the driver to upshift or downshift by nudging the gearshift forward or backward, it provides greater responsiveness and maneuverability in different driving conditions.

Part-time All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
When accelerating from a stop or if front-wheel slippage is detected, the all-wheel drive system on the RX 450h is designed to electrically power the rear wheels, helping to provide additional drive force to propel the vehicle forward.

Superb Handling
Stiff unibody construction and front and rear stabilizer bars reduce body lean in corners and deliver overall ride quality like that of a luxury sedan. For greater agility and dynamic handling, the RX 450h features a low center of gravity courtesy of a low powertrain, a fully independent MacPherson strut front suspension and a completely unique double-wishbone rear suspension that took 30 separate tuning sessions to develop. The system not only helps to improve roadhandling grip, it also intrudes less into the cargo area, freeing up floor space.

Speed-Sensing Electronic Power Steering with Steering Torque Assist
A progressive power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system on the RX 450h senses the vehicle speed and automatically delivers the appropriate level of steering assistance. The result is greater fuel efficiency and steering feel.
The RX 450h also features a steering torque assist system that can sense and respond when the vehicle is braking on a road with different levels of friction. For example, when braking with the left wheels on asphalt and the right wheels on snow, vehicles tend to deflect toward the higher-friction side due to the difference between the braking forces. By adding steering torque to balance the difference, vehicle control is enhanced.

Regenerative Braking
The RX 450h ensures its batteries remain properly charged through regenerative braking. Energy that’s normally lost as heat during braking, coasting or deceleration is captured as electrical power, which is then used to recharge the batteries. It’s one more reason why the RX 450h never needs to be plugged in.

Ventilated Disc Brakes
The RX 450h utilizes Actively Safe features for better braking and control. Ventilated front disc brakes have special ducts inside to better dissipate heat, which helps improve braking performance. For greater brake feel and further effectiveness, a twin-piston caliper design is used on the front brakes, and the rotor size has been increased on the rear brakes.

Safety & Security

Class-leading 10-Airbag System
The RX 450h leads its class with a total of 10 airbags . The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) in the RX 450h includes front seat-mounted side-impact airbags that provide a larger protection area than conventional side airbags. A driver’s dual-stage airbag deploys at one of two speeds, depending on factors like crash severity and driver’s seat-track position. And the front passenger’s dual-stage, twin-chamber airbag uses occupant weight and crash-severity sensors to monitor its deployment. Also included are front and rear roll-sensing side curtain airbags, outboard rear seat-mounted airbags and driver’s and front passenger’s knee airbags.

Vehicle Stability Features
Utilizing a sophisticated network of sensors that monitor everything from speed, to steering, to braking, the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system can anticipate a loss of traction and correct it before it occurs. When VDIM detects a potential loss of traction, it seamlessly integrates steering, braking, Traction Control (TRAC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to help the driver maintain control. All within a fraction of a second. The system is so advanced it can even sense if the wheels are driving on different surfaces—a wet road on the left and an icy shoulder on the right, for instance—and add steering torque to either side to help account for the difference.

Active Front Headrests
The RX 450h comes equipped with active front headrests for the driver and front passenger. In certain low-speed rear-end collisions, the active front headrests use the force of the occupant’s body against the seatback to move the headrest diagonally upward and forward instantaneously to help support the head, thereby helping to reduce the severity of whiplash-type injuries.

Direct Tire Pressure Monitor System
The direct Tire Pressure Monitor System in the RX 450h constantly monitors the air pressure of all tires, including the spare. When it senses that tire pressure is critically low, it alerts the driver with an indicator light.

ABS with Brake Assist
Stepping on the brake pedal quickly and forcefully during an emergency situation activates the four-sensor, four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist . Once activated, the system provides supplemental braking power if the driver does not apply enough pressure to the pedal. And to help provide even greater control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) modulates the amount of fluid pressure distributed to the front and rear brakes.

Reinforced Body
The RX 450h is built with a welded-steel unibody frame, strong box-section, side-impact door beams and impact-dissipating front and rear crumple zones. As a result of information gathered during the 233 crash tests performed on the RX during development, reinforcements to the roof, roof header, floor, crossmembers and the A-pillar help provide increased buckling strength and enhanced load sustainability when buckled, helping to reduce the deformation of the cabin in the event of certain collisions.

Smart Stop Technology
For additional peace of mind, this safety feature is designed to automatically reduce engine power when the driver is pressing down the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time under certain conditions. When the brake pedal is released, the Smart Stop Technology disengages. The feature does not engage if the brake pedal is pressed before the accelerator.

Three-Piece, Retractable Hardtop
Operated via 13 electric motors, 33 sensors and a dedicated Electronic Control Unit (ECU), this three-piece hardtop retracts in approximately 20 seconds. Just as important, with the top up, the IS Convertible provides the same air-tight seal as the IS sport sedan.

Exterior Styling
The IS Convertible stays true to the original IS sedan by sharing the same hood, headlamps, door handles and side-mirror designs. With the top up, it delivers the aggressive profile of a two-door coupe. And with the top down, it’s a stunning convertible. This dual-mode design lets IS Convertible drivers feel like they own two vehicles instead of one.

Aerodynamic Design
To help make the IS Convertible as aerodynamic as possible, our engineers meticulously adjusted the angle and shape of the windshield, the size of the cabin, the contour of the taillamps and even the height of the trunk lid. This all helped improve airflow over the vehicle (a mere 0.29 coefficient of drag), resulting in excellent fuel economy, a quieter cabin and better vehicle control at higher speeds.

SmartAccess
By recognizing the unique security code transmitted by your key fob, the SmartAccess system allows the vehicle to unlock the door or trunk lid without you having to touch your key. The system also activates the puddle lamps to help you see your way to the door, and an entry lighting system illuminates your path of entry from the door handle to the ignition button.

Backup Camera
Backing out of tight spaces is much easier with the available backup camera . A tiny camera integrated into the trunk helps show what the camera detects behind the vehicle. Place the IS Convertible in reverse and the camera’s view is displayed in full color on the navigation screen located in the center console.

Intuitive Parking Assist
The available Intuitive Parking Assist can help the driver navigate the vehicle into tight parking spaces. Ultrasonic sensors located on the front and rear bumpers are designed to detect objects nearby, and audible and visual cues help the driver know when the vehicle is getting closer to the object, including many that may not otherwise be seen.

Exterior Lighting
These available Bi-Xenon™ High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps are brighter than conventional halogen headlamps, use less energy and last significantly longer. In addition, an auto-leveling feature helps to ensure that the headlamps remain pointed at the proper angle. These headlamps also include LED daytime running lights, which use less energy than conventional bulbs while adding a dramatic air. For additional safety, the IS C comes with LED brake lights. Since they illuminate faster than standard bulbs, they can help give the driver behind you more time to respond in emergency situations.

Integrated Foglamps
Integrated stylishly into the lower corners of the front bumper is a set of foglamps. Not only do they help you see better in inclement weather, they also help reduce glare for oncoming drivers.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
A millimeter-wave radar sensor allows the available Dynamic Radar Cruise Control to help maintain your selected speed. This system also enables you to follow the vehicle in front of you at the same pre-set speed. If you get too close to the traffic in front of you, the throttle is automatically reduced and brakes are applied. Once the road clears, the IS C returns to its pre-set speed. A car icon on the information display shows the selected following distance.

Interior

Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
These available seats feature increased ventilation, as well as heating in the shoulder areas, to maximize comfort when the top is down.

One-Touch Rear-Seat Access
Quickly slide these available front seats forward at the press of a button. To help shorten the wait time, the speed is twice that of the seats found in the IS sport sedan.

Arched-Framed Front Seats
The backs of the front seats are sculpted, providing more knee space for the rear-seat passengers.

Luxurious Appointments
The IS Convertible may be designed for high-performance driving, but it’s not without its interior luxuries. Available amenities include beautiful wood trim, perforated semi-aniline leather trim or standard leather trim, and a range of color schemes designed to complement the exterior of the vehicle when the top is down.

Voice-Activated HDD Navigation System
The available voice-activated Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation System on the IS Convertible features a touch-sensitive screen for inputting information, as well as an advanced voice-command system that allows you to search for destinations using your natural speaking voice. For example, if you say, “Show me gas stations” from the destination menu, you’ll be presented with locations in your immediate vicinity. And once you select a destination, the system will calculate up to three different routes and provide audible and visual directions as you drive.
The system also features NavTraffic™ , which can provide real-time traffic reports on specific highways or routes, and even reroute you around congestion. Plus, NavWeather™ can provide real-time weather reports for specific cities and send you alerts as you get closer to poor weather conditions.

Optimized Climate-Control System
The climate in a convertible depends greatly on whether the top is up or down. For this reason, the climate-control system on the IS Convertible is designed to monitor not just the interior temperature, but the exterior temperature and position of the sun as well. All the while, airflow and temperature settings are constantly adjusted. And when the top is down, the system even takes into account the vehicle’s speed. This all helps ensure the ideal interior temperature, whether the top is up or down.

Optimized Audio System
This audio system was designed to overcome acoustical weaknesses commonly associated with convertibles. When the top is lowered, the volume and equalizer curve are adjusted to compensate for the additional road and wind noise, especially the bass tones, which are normally lost in open-air environments. The result is a consistently impressive audio experience.

Quietness Measures
Floor braces provide excellent structural rigidity to greatly reduce body vibration, while sound-absorbing materials help suppress engine and road noise. In addition, a special insulating acoustic windshield glass further increases the level of quietness in the cabin, delivering a serene driving experience that’s easily comparable to that of the IS sport sedan.

Electroluminescent Optitron Gauges
A cluster of brilliant Optitron electroluminescent gauges complements the modern interior of the IS Convertible. Initially blank, the moment the push-button start is activated, the tachometer and speedometer come to life. Their needles illuminate from the base to the tip, then sweep around their respective dials to come to rest. Not only are these gauges easy to read, their outer rings can be set to glow amber or red when the vehicle reaches a specific speed or the engine attains a certain rpm level.

HomeLink® Remote Control
Located on the lower frame of the rearview mirror is the HomeLink® universal transceiver. It allows you to control up to three compatible remote devices—the garage door, your entry gate, even the living room lights—all with the touch of a button.

Performance

V6 Engines
Like the IS sport sedan, the IS Convertible comes in two models. The IS 350 C delivers a 3.5-liter 306-hp V6 for extraordinary performance and surprising fuel efficiency. The IS 250 C comes with a 2.5-liter 204-hp V6 for unexpected performance and excellent fuel economy.

Direct Injection
By injecting gasoline directly into the combustion chamber, the direct injection system provides a more effective mixture of air and fuel. Not only does this boost overall power, but the extra control over the air/fuel ratio helps to significantly improves gas mileage.

Dual Variable Valve Timing
Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) optimizes both the intake and exhaust valve timing throughout the rpm range, depending on engine and driving conditions. The system continuously monitors the engine’s speed and load to respond to the driver’s demands. This helps provide improved fuel efficiency, lower exhaust emissions and optimum power across all driving ranges. Torque is increased at lower speeds for better thrust. And power is boosted at higher speeds for better acceleration.

Six-Speed Paddle-Shift Automatic Transmission
The six gears found in the IS Convertible’s available automatic transmission allow for better gear-ratio matching to the engine. The benefits of this system are twofold: better acceleration than a typical five-speed transmission and improved fuel efficiency. In addition, racing-inspired paddle-shifters are integrated into the steering wheel, allowing you to quickly shift gears without removing your hands from the steering wheel.

Six-Speed Manual Transmission (IS 250 C)
This manual transmission gives you the feeling of ultimate control. The six gears allow for better gear ratio matching to the engine, resulting in better acceleration than a typical five-speed transmission, as well as improved fuel efficiency.

Optimized Suspension
To ensure the IS Convertible delivered a high-performance driving experience—regardless of the position of the top—we started with the same suspension system as the IS sport sedan, then made adjustments where necessary. For instance, we reinforced the chassis’ upper-support bracket for the rear shock absorbers and optimized the suspension bushings and the rear-suspension rubber mount. We also fine-tuned the front and rear springs, as well as the shock absorbers, all to provide the optimum balance between ride and handling.

Optimized Steering System
The position of a convertible’s roof can have a great effect on its balance and steering. For this reason, our engineers made adjustments to help perfect the aerodynamics, steering gear-ratio and overall steering system, giving the IS Convertible a consistent steering feel in both top-up and top-down scenarios.

Safety & Security

Airbags
The IS Convertible features driver’s and front passenger’s knee airbags as well as front seat-mounted side airbags to help protect the occupants. Sensors determine the speed of deployment for the driver’s side airbag based on the position of the driver’s seat on the seat track. Also included is a twin-chamber airbag for the front passenger, which features an indentation at its center to help disperse the forces immediately after deployment.

Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM)
All IS models include Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), which uses a sophisticated network of sensors to anticipate a skid before it occurs, rather than reacting to a skid the moment it begins. When VDIM detects a potential loss of traction in a turn, it seamlessly integrates steering, braking, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRAC) to help the driver stay on course.

Pre-Collision System (PCS)
The available Pre-Collision System (PCS) is equipped with a front-mounted radar sensor that can detect another vehicle traveling ahead of the IS Convertible. When the PCS computer determines that a frontal collision is unavoidable, it preemptively retracts the front seatbelts and preps the Brake Assist so increased braking force is available the moment the driver steps on the brake pedal.

ABS with Brake Assist
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) employs computerized control to help prevent the wheels from locking up or skidding during braking. For additional control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) monitors and manages the force between the front and rear brakes to help optimize brake performance. The moment the system detects an attempted emergency stop, Brake Assist automatically boosts braking force if the driver does not apply enough pressure to the brake pedal.

Rain-Sensing Wipers
The optional rain-sensing wipers are equipped with a sensor that can detect water on the windshield, thereby activating the wipers. The system then adjusts the speed as often as necessary, depending on the amount of rainfall.

Direct Tire Pressure Monitor
The direct Tire Pressure Monitor System constantly checks the air pressure of all four tires. When the tire pressure drops to a critically low level, a light on the instrument panel alerts the driver.

Theft-Deterrent System
The IS Convertible comes equipped with a state-of-the-art theft-deterrent system. This includes an engine immobilizer designed to prevent the car from starting if it cannot recognize the code transmitted by your key. The system changes the code each time you arm and disarm the alarm.

Reinforced Body
All IS models are built with side-impact door beams to help protect occupants during side collisions. In addition, the front and rear of the vehicle are engineered to crumple at a controlled rate to help absorb energy.

Exterior
Exterior Styling
The LS 600h L features a Lexus badge with an exclusive Hybrid design on the front grille and rear decklid, as well as a Hybrid badge on the lower rear door. In addition, you’ll find an LS 600h L badge on the rear of the vehicle, as well as subtle blue tinting on the headlamps and taillamps for a more sophisticated appearance.

Wet-Sanded Paint Finish
For a smoother, more lustrous finish, areas of the LS 600h L are wet-sanded by hand during the paint application process. Wet-sanding removes imperfections in the paint’s surface. But since this is such a time-consuming process, it’s rarely performed on production vehicles.

Advanced Parking Guidance System
The Advanced Parking Guidance System is designed to help the driver parallel park the LS 600h L or back it into a space. Simply align the vehicle frame on the navigation screen, place the vehicle in reverse, select a button, remove your hands from the steering wheel and regulate the vehicle’s speed by using the brake to ease into the parking spot.

Alloy Wheels
The standard 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels on the LS 600h L feature an exclusive seven-spoke design. With their Liquid Graphite finish, they make a bold statement while complementing the sleek exterior of the LS 600h L. In addition, these larger wheels are fitted with low-profile all-season tires for better handling. An 18-inch seven-spoke Teleios alloy wheel is also available. Or you may opt for the available 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels with a sporty 10-spoke design.

SmartAccess
Using a unique secure code, the SmartAccess key enables you to unlock and open all four of the vehicle’s doors and its trunk without removing the transmitter from your purse, pocket or briefcase. There is no visible key cylinder. After the sensors detect the presence of your SmartAccess key—either in the form of a key fob or keycard—the door will unlock the moment you touch the handle. SmartAccess even activates the lighting entry system to illuminate your points of entry, from the exterior puddle lamps to the ignition button. Once you’re inside, all that’s required is a simple push of a button to start the hybrid system.

Automated Access
Simply place the door in a closed position and the power door closer will latch it securely. Additionally, the trunk lid can be automatically raised and lowered by pressing either the button located near the steering wheel or the one on the key fob. A button for raising the trunk lid is also concealed on the rear license-plate holder, and one for lowering it can be found on the bottom edge of the trunk lid itself.

Exterior Lighting
The LS 600h L is the world’s first vehicle to be equipped with Light-Emitting Diode (LED) headlamps for low-beam use. Not only are these headlamps more energy-efficient, they last longer than conventional bulbs. Each headlamp is fitted with five LED lights, which have a subtle blue tint, giving this LS a more modern appearance. When driving through curves, the Dual-swivel Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) allows the headlamps to turn and illuminate the road. If turning speed exceeds 19 mph, both headlamps will swivel. At lower speeds, a single headlamp rotates up to 10 degrees for right turns, and 20 degrees when turning left. LEDs can also be found in the taillamps and center stoplight. Since LED bulbs tend to illuminate faster than conventional bulbs, drivers behind you may have more time to react after you’ve stepped on the brake pedal. In addition, the outside mirrors feature puddle lamps to light your way.

Intelligent High-Beam Headlamps
Helping to provide greater visibility to the driver without compromising the visibility of other drivers on the road, the LS Hybrid features intelligent high-beam headlamps . Depending upon conditions, they can operate in high-beam mode until a camera mounted in the back of the rearview mirror detects an oncoming vehicle or other vehicles traveling closely ahead. The headlamps will then automatically enter into low-beam mode until vehicles are no longer detected ahead.

Intuitive Parking Assist
Six ultrasonic sensors on the front and four on the rear of the vehicle help Intuitive Parking Assist detect the distance between the LS 600h L and surrounding objects. When another vehicle or object is in close proximity, the system alerts the driver. Distance is indicated on the navigation screen, accompanied by audible beeps. As the vehicle gets closer to the object, the beeping becomes more frequent, and the distance markers on the display slowly disappear.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
To help maintain a pre-set following distance, the available Dynamic Radar Cruise Control sensor uses radar technology. Should the LS 600h L get too close to the vehicle ahead, the throttle is automatically reduced and the brakes are applied. As soon as the road ahead clears, the LS 600h L returns to its pre-set speed.

Electrochromic Outside Mirrors
The outside mirrors of the LS 600h L have built-in sensors that can detect excessive light. When light levels get too high, the electrochromic technology automatically dims the mirrors’ reflectivity to help reduce glare. These mirrors are also heated to dissipate condensation, and tilt down when the LS 600h L is placed in reverse, for enhanced viewing when parking alongside a curb. In addition, the mirrors can automatically power-fold when the doors are locked or at the touch of a button.

Interior

Executive-Class Seating
The available Executive-Class Seating comes with a select group of luxurious amenities. A Rear-Seat Entertainment System (RSES) includes a DVD player with remote control, wireless headphones and an integrated power nine-inch LCD screen that descends automatically from the ceiling. The rear seats are power-adjustable and feature heating/cooling settings. The right rear seat can also recline and includes a built-in leg rest and a massager for even more indulgence. And the left-rear seat feature a power lumbar massager. A beautifully designed wood-trimmed table swivels into place between the rear seats. Additionally, the cabin’s climate is maintained by an infrared temperature sensor, which assesses each rear-seat passenger’s surface temperature, then adjusts the climate-control air conditioning.

HDD Navigation System
The next-generation voice-activated Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation System on the LS 600h L features a touch-sensitive screen for inputting information, as well as an advanced voice-command system that allows you to search for destinations using your natural speaking voice. For example, if you say, “Show me gas stations,” you’ll be presented with locations in your immediate vicinity. And once you select a destination, the system will calculate up to three different routes and provide audible and visual directions as you drive.

NavTraffic™, NavWeather™, Sports and Stocks
While available SiriusXM Satellite Radio offers diverse and commercial-free music programming, available NavTraffic™ can provide real-time traffic reports on specific highways or routes and reroute you around congestion. Available NavWeather™ can give real-time weather reports for specific cities and even automatically alert you of severe weather.

Energy Monitor
The energy monitor in the LS 600h L allows the driver to observe the way the hybrid system operates. All the major components are represented, from the gasoline engine and electric-drive motor to the batteries and wheels. As the vehicle accelerates, brakes or coasts, animated arrows on the screen show which way the power is being supplied, letting the driver see just how efficiently the vehicle is running.

Mark Levinson® Surround Sound
The Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound Audio System features 19 custom-made speakers—many with metal cones for superior sound quality—strategically placed throughout the cabin. Powered by a 15-channel 450-watt amplifier rated at less than 0.1% THD, 20–20,000 Hz , the system includes 7.1-channel speaker architecture, ensuring an ideal experience for even the most discerning listener.
Standard on the LS 600h L, you’ll find a USB input and MP3/WMA port located just inside the center armrest. The USB input allows you to navigate through your personal audio content using the controls in the navigation screen.
Or, compatible portable audio players enabled with Bluetooth® audio profile capability can be controlled using the onboard audio controls. And, because it’s a wireless technology, your entire music library is accessible without ever taking the player out of your pocket or purse.

SiriusXM Satellite Radio
SiriusXM Satellite Radio offers a tremendous variety of virtually commercial-free programming across the country. With the available SiriusXM Radio service, you can control all the features through an integrated audio head unit.
Available SiriusXM Satellite Radio offers diverse programming through a nationwide network of over 170 digital channels, including music, news, sports, lifestyle, weather and NavTraffic™, which is real-time traffic information provided by SiriusXM Radio.

Lexus Enform® with Safety Connect

Luxurious Appointments
The LS 600h L interior includes such features as a buffed leather-trimmed steering wheel and Yamaha®-crafted wood trim on the dashboard, door panels, steering wheel and passenger-assist grips. The power rear sunshade raises at the touch of a button and automatically lowers when the car is placed in reverse. And power rear-door sunshades help keep the cabin cool on sunnier days and can be raised or lowered with the touch of a button. Interior LED lights illuminate the cabin as soon as the driver is within the SmartAccess system range, remaining lit for 15 seconds or until the door is opened. The cabin’s ceiling also features a plush headliner made from Alcantara®, a synthetic material that has the look and feel of suede, but is much more durable and easier to care for.

Luxury Seating
The power-adjustable, 16-way driver’s seat in the LS 600h L features lumbar support for both the upper and lower back. The front passenger has a 12-way power-adjustable seat, including lumbar support. Available rear power seats allow passengers to recline and adjust their headrest height for maximum comfort while also offering a power lumbar massage and adjustable butterfly headrests. The seating, armrests and instrument panel of the LS 600h L are trimmed with superior quality semi-aniline leather. This extremely soft leather is dyed all the way through, unlike the conventional surface dyeing process. In addition, a higher grade of leather is used, since imperfections cannot be hidden. The Lexus Memory System will save settings for three different drivers and front-seat passengers. The positioning of the driver’s side exterior mirror and steering wheel are also retained.

Climate & Comfort
The available rear climate-comfort seats mean the passengers can stay comfortable no matter what the conditions are outside. These seats feature several levels of radiant heat for cold weather and can switch to air-conditioned ventilation for warmer days, while a heated steering wheel warms your hands. Another available feature, the four-zone automatic climate control with smog sensor and automatic recirculation, allows individual temperature settings for all passengers, while an infrared sensor constantly monitors the rear-seat passengers’ body surface temperatures to maintain the desired settings. Diffusers overhead can automatically cool or heat the rear zones as required. This system also includes an Air Purifier, which helps keep the cabin free of dust and pollen.

Lexus Personalized Settings
Lexus Personalized Settings provides the driver with access to a number of customizable functions that were once only adjustable through your Lexus dealer.
Prefer to have all of the doors unlock with one press of your remote button? A convenient on-screen menu makes it easy. You can also adjust things like the smog sensor’s sensitivity or how long the interior lights remain on after you turn off the engine. Best of all, since you can make all of the adjustments yourself, you can easily try out different settings to see which ones are best suited for you.

Gauges
Stunning. That’s the only way to describe this new Thin Film Transistor (TFT) color display. The moment the power switch is activated, this sharp, brilliant screen comes to life, quickly drawing the outlines of all the gauges, followed by each respective scale. A large speedometer is at the center, flanked by a tachometer, hybrid system indicator, fuel gauge and an engine coolant temperature gauge. This is also where all important indicators are located, including those for shift position, outside temperature and turn-by-turn directions from the included Navigation System.

Performance

LS Hybrid Performance
This powerful 5.0-liter engine features both port and direct fuel injection. In addition, this V8 is paired with a high-output electric-drive motor, giving the LS 600h L a total 438 system horsepower and a 0-to-60 time of a mere 5.5 seconds.

Dual Variable Valve Timing
The dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence and Electronic intake valve timing (VVT-iE) system continuously monitors the engine’s speed and load to provide optimum valve timing for all driving conditions. Both intake and exhaust valve timing are adjusted throughout all speed ranges to help improve torque and fuel economy while reducing exhaust emissions. The intake valves operate using VVT-iE, an electronically controlled system that improves valve timing even when engine oil temperature or engine speed is low.

Direct Injection
With this direct injection system, a more effective mixture of air and fuel is attained. This boosts overall power. Plus, with the extra control over the air/fuel ratio, mileage is also improved. This system, in conjunction with traditional port injection, helps to achieve a smoother running engine and improved drivability.

EV Mode
EV mode allows the vehicle to operate at low speeds for short distances under certain conditions on the electric motor alone and will not use the gasoline engine. This technology has two major benefits: low noise and zero emissions. Maximum driving distance for EV mode is approximately one-half of a mile, depending on battery charge and driving conditions.

Super Ultra-Low Emissions
While high performance can often mean higher emissions, the LS 600h L is certified as a Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV II).

ECVT
In order to operate at peak efficiency, the Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) effectively combines engine and electric power according to driving conditions. This results in a smooth, seamless acceleration and better fuel efficiency, regardless of vehicle speed.

All-Wheel Drive
To offer a smooth yet responsive ride, the LS 600h L is equipped with the world’s first full V8 hybrid system. It uses a TORSEN® limited-slip center differential to direct power between the front and rear wheels. This provides improved traction and control on a wide range of road surfaces and in a variety of weather conditions.

Adaptive Variable Air Suspension
The shock absorbers featured in the Adaptive Variable Air Suspension (AVS) are electronically modulated and automatically change damping rates to accommodate a variety of driving conditions. Unlike traditional coil springs, these air springs can be inflated or deflated to better suit your ride preference. A three-position switch on the console allows you to adjust the suspension for either Normal, Comfort or Sport driving.

Regenerative Braking
One way the LS 600h L can help ensure that its battery remains properly charged is through regenerative braking. With this system, energy that is normally lost as heat during braking, coasting or deceleration is captured as electrical power, which is then used to recharge the battery.

Electronic Power Steering
Electronic Power Steering (EPS) allows the driver to steer while a computer analyzes driving conditions and adjusts the responsiveness accordingly. This lighter-weight system requires fewer parts, including no replacement of the power-steering fluid or pump. The result is steering that’s quicker, quieter and more efficient than conventional steering methods. Plus, because the motor consumes energy only when power assist is necessary, it can even help improve fuel economy.

Safety & Security

360 Degrees of Safety
There’s safety. Then there’s Lexus safety. That’s why the LSh has features to help protect you before, during or after an accident. This is the luxury of confidence. This is the pursuit of 360 Degrees of Safety in the LSh. To learn more, click on the features below.

Airbags
To help provide occupants with an advanced level of protection, the LS 600h L is equipped with a comprehensive network of airbags. These include a sophisticated dual-stage driver’s and front passenger’s advanced airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) that deploys at different speeds, depending on such factors as crash severity and the driver’s seat-track position.
A slight depression in the center of the front passenger’s twin-chamber airbag helps disperse the forces applied to the passenger immediately after deployment.
The LS 600h L also features front and rear side curtain airbags (SRS) that are designed to help provide additional protection for the occupants’ heads during certain side impacts. In addition, front seat-mounted side airbags (SRS) are integrated into the front seats themselves. Which means, where the seat is positioned, the airbags are designed to deploy in locations consistent with respect to the driver and front passenger. The available rear-seat side airbags (SRS) help keep rear passengers protected in certain types of severe side impacts. And standard knee airbags (SRS) help protect the driver and front passenger in a severe frontal collision.

Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS) with Driver Attention Monitor
The world’s first available Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS) with Driver Attention Monitor uses an infrared camera that is designed to monitor the direction of the driver’s face while the vehicle is in motion. The system can warn the driver and, if necessary, help apply the brakes to alert the driver if an object is detected ahead while the driver is facing away from the road. Once a collision is determined to be unavoidable, the system then preps the Brake Assist for increased braking effectiveness once the brakes are applied. It can also retract the front seatbelts as well as apply the brakes to help reduce collision damage.
The system features stereo cameras to help detect objects in the vehicle’s path, plus infrared technology to enhance nighttime operation. An Active Pedestrian Detection System also uses these stereo cameras and is designed to detect pedestrians in the vehicle’s path, and can apply the brakes to help reduce vehicle speed.

Vehicle Stability Features
While conventional vehicle and control features wait until a loss of traction has occurred, the LS 600h L features the breakthrough Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system. Working with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), VDIM can predict and take steps to help prevent loss of traction during a turn. When a series of sensors detects a problem, the system is designed to use a combination of individual-wheel braking, throttle activation and steering assistance to seamlessly correct the situation before a loss of traction actually occurs, thus helping the driver keep the vehicle on track. On slippery surfaces, Traction Control (TRAC) helps maximize the grip of each wheel separately to help reduce wheelspin.

Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB) & ABS with Brake Assist
An important component of the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB) uses a sensor to determine the brake pedal’s position and then activates the master cylinder accordingly.
In addition, a sophisticated Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps the driver maintain directional control, even during hard braking. A technology called Brake Assist helps to ensure that sufficient brake pressure is applied during an emergency stop. By monitoring how quickly and forcefully the brake pedal is pressed, Brake Assist helps compensate by automatically applying increased braking boost until the pedal is released.

Reinforced Body
Crumple zones at the front and rear of the LS 600h L help absorb impact energy by compressing at a controlled rate. And to help protect occupants during side collisions, the reinforced side-impact door beams are designed to resist cabin intrusion.

Advanced Active Front Headrests
The LS 600h L is the first Lexus to offer an advanced active front headrest system. When the system detects certain low-speed rear-end collisions, it is designed to instantly send a signal to an inflation device within each front seat. When triggered, these devices force the front sections of the headrests up and forward, helping to support the driver’s and front passenger’s head and reduce the severity of a whiplash injury.

Safety Connect
Safety Connect means additional peace of mind—24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the event of a severe rear-end collision or when the vehicle’s airbagsdeploy, Automatic Collision Notification can send a request for help—even when you can’t. And should you report your vehicle stolen, the Stolen Vehicle Location service can help the police recover it quicker once a stolen vehicle report is filed. Safety Connect also includes Enhanced Roadside Assistance, which allows you to get help for things like a flat tire with a simple press of the Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), which can also be used for other emergencies.
Safety Connect is a subscription service. A one-year trial subscription is included with new vehicle purchase.

Tire Pressure Monitor System
Each tire on the LS 600h L is continually monitored by a dedicated sensor. If tire pressure drops below a predetermined level, a radio transmitter in the valve stem sends a signal to the computer, which then alerts the driver by activating a warning light on the instrument panel.
