Lexus GX

Exterior

18-inch Alloy Wheels
These six-spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels [2] are lightweight and durable enough to handle virtually any off-road adventure. Plus, they come in a high-gloss finish on Premium models.

HID Headlamps
Available High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps help provide a closer simulation to daylight than conventional halogen lighting. Not only does their brighter, whiter light make it easier to see in the darkest conditions, but the xenon and metal halide bulbs are also mercury-free, use less energy and last significantly longer.

Intelligent High-Beam Headlamps
Helping to provide greater visibility for you without compromising the visibility of others, the available intelligent high-beam headlamps operate in high-beam mode until a camera on the back of the rearview mirror detects the headlamps from an oncoming vehicle or another vehicle traveling closely ahead. The headlamps then automatically switch to low-beam mode until vehicles are no longer detected ahead.

Backup Camera
Backing out of tight spaces is much easier with the GX’s backup camera . When the vehicle is placed in reverse, a tiny camera located above the rear license plate provides a view of what the camera’s lens can see behind you, which is conveniently displayed in full color on the multi-information center-console display or the available Navigation System screen.

Intuitive Parking Assist
This available system uses sensors integrated into the front and rear bumpers to help monitor how close the GX is to surrounding objects. Warning tones and visual cues (through the multi-information console display or available navigation screen) help the driver better understand the vehicle’s proximity to surrounding objects.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
For your convenience, as well as your safety, this advanced system on the GX 460 Premium uses radar technology to help maintain a pre-set following distance from the vehicle traveling in front of yours . If you appear to be getting too close, the throttle is automatically reduced and brakes are applied. Once the road clears, your GX will return to its pre-set speed.

Wide-view Front and Side Monitor
Operated at low speeds, a camera incorporated into the front grille of the GX helps you see around corners, such as when exiting a parking garage or when maneuvering around a tight turn. A second camera located underneath the passenger side-mirror provides a view of the ground next to the vehicle, which makes parking alongside a curb easier. Both views can be displayed simultaneously on the navigation screen when this available system is activated.

Interior

HDD Navigation System
The available HDD Navigation System uses a hard disk drive (HDD) to store maps and data, which allows it to operate much faster than previous DVD-based models. Additionally, it can recognize over 100 voice commands; provides a sharper, more colorful display; can map over eight million points of interest and display information in English, French and Spanish.

Voice Command
The GX is available with a voice-recognition system that makes it easy to place compatible Bluetooth®  phone calls and access commonly used features like the controls for the climate and audio system. Choose the available Navigation System and experience the convenience of voice-recognition technology with voice command.

Mark Levinson® Audio
This available Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound System is an audiophile’s dream. Semi-aniline Leather-trimmed Interior
Available semi-aniline leather is a higher quality than conventional leather used by other automotive manufacturers. Rather than using heavy surface dyes, the semi-aniline leather is dyed throughout. This means imperfections can’t be masked, so a higher grade leather must always be used. The lack of surface dye also helps the leather retain its natural feel. Semi-aniline leather trim is available throughout the GX interior.

Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
Whatever the weather, the heated and ventilated front seats will be appreciated. On cold days, the seatbacks and lower-seat cushions can be heated to one of three levels. In warmer weather, you can select from three ventilations settings to have fans inside the seatbacks and cushions circulate air through perforations in the leather trim. And for added comfort for your passengers, heating is also available for the outboard rear seats.

Innovative Seating Configurations
A variety of seat configurations makes the GX incredibly versatile. The second-row seat reclines and has a slide feature as well as available seat heaters for the outboard positions. It also folds forward in a 40/20/40-split seatback configuration to accommodate various kinds of cargo, and the passenger-side seat tilts and slides forward making entering the third row much easier. At the touch of a button, the power third-row seat can automatically fold itself down to be flush with the cargo area floor.

Rear Air Conditioning
Occupy your own perfectly temperate zone, even if other passengers prefer it warmer or cooler. Individual settings allow the driver and front passenger to adjust their preferred temperatures, while available controls in the second row adjust settings for the rear passengers. With 23 vents, the cabin heats and cools quickly, while an air filter helps to remove allergens and dust. The available smog sensor recirculates the interior cabin air when the exterior levels of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons reach a pre-set threshold. Heated and ventilated front-row seats can be heated or cooled with perforations that allow air to circulate. Second-row heated seats are also available.

Advanced Audio Connectivity
The GX features a USB connector that allows you to use the vehicle’s audio system to control compatible music players such as the iPod®. In addition, portable players with Bluetooth audio functionality can connect with the audio system wirelessly. A stereo miniplug input jack is also included.

Performance

4.6-liter V8 Engine
Featuring dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), a cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation system, an electronic throttle and low-friction technologies, the GX doesn’t just offer one of the best combined fuel-economy ratings of any V8 in its class. It also produces an impressive 301 horsepower  and 329 lb-ft of torque at low rpm, making it remarkably powerful.

ECO Indicator
When the driver accelerates gently, the ECO indicator illuminates and a graph is displayed, helping you better understand how your driving affects the fuel- efficiency of the GX.

Six-Speed Automatic Transmission

A sixth gear was added to this GX without increasing the size of its previous five-speed transmission. This enables the GX to achieve higher speeds while keeping the engine speed low. The end result: better fuel economy and a quieter ride.

Full-Time 4WD
Having power directed to all four wheels all of the time helps give the GX better traction in on-road and off-road driving situations. The transfer case can run in locked or unlocked modes, in high or low gear.

Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System
Front and rear cylinders, linked hydraulically via a pressure-sensing valve, adjust the GX’s stabilizer bars to current road conditions. Off-road, this Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) automatically allows each wheel to move more independently, so the wheel on uneven ground can react while the other wheels are relatively unaffected. This flexibility helps reduce vehicle tilt and improve traction on uneven surfaces. On-road, the front and rear stabilizer bars are automatically fixed in place, helping to minimize body sway while cornering.

Adaptive Variable Suspension
The shock absorbers in this system are electronically adjusted to adapt to the current driving conditions. Drivers can select from three settings: Comfort, Normal and Sport. Because each wheel automatically reacts to unique road surfaces, the system adjusts quickly to changes in driving conditions, maintaining your selected level of driving comfort.

Electronically Modulated Rear Air Suspension
The rear suspension of the GX utilizes an available air-based system rather than traditional coil springs. This allows the vehicle to raise or lower its ride height based on the driver’s preferences and current driving conditions. On the road, the GX suspension remains firm to help provide better steering response, while off-road the suspension adjusts, which helps offer excellent wheel articulation and increased traction.
The driver can select from among three suspension heights: High (for better ground clearance), Normal (for everyday driving) or Low (for easier loading and unloading of passengers and cargo). An auto-leveling function helps to ensure the rear of the vehicle remains at the proper height. And at higher speeds, the GX automatically returns to Normal height to help improve driving comfort and control.

Crawl Control
When climbing steep slopes and rugged terrain, available Crawl Control  helps to maintain a slow, steady speed in difficult off-road conditions. By maintaining low speeds, Crawl Control is designed to allow the driver to concentrate on steering, while regulating the engine output and brake application to help control vehicle speed and wheel slippage.

Body-on-frame Design
The GX features body-on-frame, ladder-type construction, giving it strength and frame rigidity. This type of design also isolates the passenger compartment from the frame to reduce noise and vibration. More importantly, optimally distributed frame materials around the cabin are designed to absorb and disperse impact energy, helping to protect you and your passengers in the event of a collision.

Safety & Security

Airbags
The GX features a series of 10 airbags designed to help protect occupants in certain types of severe impacts. In addition to driver’s and front passenger’s knee airbags (SRS), driver’s and front passenger’s airbags feature a dual-stage system that controls airbag inflation based on the position of the driver’s seat on its track and the severity of the impact. Seat-mounted side airbags are integrated into the front seats and second-row outboard seats to help the airbags deploy in locations consistent with respect to their occupants. The forward seat-mounted side airbag on the front passenger’s seat has an occupant sensor to help prevent it from deploying if the system detects the seat is vacant. In addition, all three rows of seats have Roll-Sensing Curtain Airbags (RSCA) that are designed to deploy in the event of a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force.

Safety Connect
Safety Connect® means additional peace of mind—24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the event of a severe rear-end collision or when the vehicle’s airbags [3] deploy, Automatic Collision Notification can send a request for help—even when you can’t. And should you report your vehicle stolen, the Stolen Vehicle Location service can help the police recover it quicker once a stolen vehicle report is filed. Safety Connect also includes Enhanced Roadside Assistance [4], which allows you to get help for things like a flat tire with a simple press of the Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), which can also be used for other emergencies.
Safety Connect is a subscription service. A one-year trial subscription is included with new vehicle purchase.

Pre-Collision System
This available Pre-Collision System is available with a Driver Attention Monitor. An infrared camera helps monitor the direction of the driver’s face while the vehicle is in motion. If an object is sensed ahead while the driver does not appear to be facing the road, the system can warn the driver visually and audibly and, if necessary, briefly apply the brakes to help alert the driver. Once a collision is determined to be unavoidable, the system preps the Brake Assist (for increased braking effectiveness the moment the brakes are applied), retracts the front seatbelts to help reduce collision damage and can even apply the brakes to help reduce impact speed.

Adaptive Front Lighting
For enhanced nighttime visibility, especially on winding roads, the available Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) can pivot the left headlamp up to 15 degrees and the right headlamp up to 10 degrees, helping to illuminate more of the road through turns.

Active Front Headrests
The GX comes equipped with active front headrests for the driver and front passenger. In certain low-speed rear-end collisions, the active front headrests use the force of the occupant’s body against the seatback to move the headrest diagonally upward to help decrease the movement of the head, thereby helping to reduce the possibility of a whiplash injury.

Lane Departure Alert
On certain types of well-maintained roads, the available Lane Departure Alert system can help judge the position of the vehicle by using a camera and sensor to detect lane markings. When the system is on and the GX is traveling at approximately 30 mph or more, an audible alert and indicator are activated the moment the vehicle appears to be deviating from its current lane. The alert will not sound when the turn signal is on or if the vehicle is braking.

Performance

5.7-liter V8 Engine
The LX features a remarkable 5.7-liter V8 engine, empowering you with 383 horsepower. The engine produces 403 pound-feet of torque at 3,600 RPM thanks in part to dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), which monitors the engine’s speed and load, increasing torque at lower speeds for improved towing power, and boosts performance at higher speeds by adjusting intake and exhaust valve timing.
This engine features 32 valves and chain-driven Dual Overhead Camshafts (DOHC), leading to long-term durability and efficiency. An aluminum block keeps the engine lighter, helping to improve efficiency even further.

Six-Speed Sequential-Shift Automatic Transmission
Improve acceleration and fuel efficiency with six forward gears and Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT). A sequential-shift feature allows you to select gears with the feel of a manual transmission.

7,000-lb Towing Capacity
The power of a 5.7-liter V8 engine, working with the six-speed sequential-shift transmission, allows you to tow just about anything from boats to horse trailers. The engine gives you 90% of the 403 pound-feet of torque available at low RPM, which makes towing 7,000 pounds feel almost effortless . The Trailer Sway Control uses the LX’s vehicle stability to detect, and help suppress unwanted trailer movement caused by wind, bumpy roads and even steering operation when towing.

Full-Time 4WD with TORSEN® Limited-Slip Center Differential
A TORSEN® torque-sensing limited-slip center differential allows the LX to efficiently distribute engine power between the front and rear axles. Combined with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), this minimizes tire spin, helping you to drive in slippery conditions without losing traction. For maximum traction in off-road situations, the differential can be locked. Full-time 4WD powers all four wheels so the LX is as capable off-road as on. Multi-terrain Select provides optimal vehicle characteristics for different road conditions. Select from five road conditions – Rock, Rock & Dirt, Mogul, Loose Rock, Mud & Sand – to help optimize the vehicle’s performance to a variety of road conditions.

Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) with Active Height Control (X-AHC)
Rise to the challenge of virtually every road surface with the newly refined Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system with Active Height Control (X-AHC). This innovative suspension system helps to continuously maintain optimal vehicle posture, despite road conditions. Because each wheel automatically reacts to unique road surfaces, AVS adjusts quickly to changes in driving conditions, maintaining your selected level of comfort.
Active Height Control automatically adjusts the vehicle’s ride height to help provide optimal vehicle performance, regardless of speed or terrain. To help improve aerodynamics at higher speeds, the LX lowers 2.4 inches in front and 1.6 inches in back. For increased traction in off-road situations, the system engages once the 4WD shifts into low range, raising the vehicle 2.0 inches in front and 2.4 inches in the rear for better ground clearance. This helps control roll and pitch for added security. When Crawl Control is enabled, the LX can be raised an additional three inches to prevent bottoming out in extremely rocky conditions.

Crawl Control
Crawl Control  is a remarkable feature that allows you to go places few other vehicles can. When activated at slow speeds, Crawl Control allows you to take your foot off the accelerator and brake pedal, allowing you to concentrate on steering over rough terrain.
When climbing steep slopes and rugged terrain, Crawl Control helps to maintain a slow, steady speed in difficult off-road conditions. In conjunction with Active Height Control (X-AHC) and Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), the LX can raise an additional three inches to help prevent the vehicle from bottoming out over particularly rocky terrain. By maintaining low speeds, Crawl Control is designed to allow the driver to concentrate on steering, while regulating the engine output and brake application to help control vehicle speed and prevent wheel slippage. With the new Turn Assist function added to Crawl Control, drivability and turning performance around tight corners are enhanced.

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) [1] helps to increase driver confidence when ascending hills. While stopped on an incline, the vehicle may roll back once you step off the brake. HAC helps maintain the LX’s position by applying the brakes to all four wheels until the vehicle begins moving forward.

Safety & Security

Comprehensive Airbag System
To help protect passengers, the LX offers the most airbags in its class. The advanced airbag system (SRS) and knee airbags are designed to help protect the driver and front passenger in certain types of front-end collisions. The front passenger’s seat is equipped with an occupant sensor designed to prevent airbag deployment if the seat is unoccupied. Seat-mounted side airbags (SRS) help protect the driver, front passenger and second-row outboard passengers in certain types of side impacts.

Vehicle Stability Features
The LX offers Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), where wheel-speed, steering-angle and yaw-rate sensors work together to detect the onset of a loss of traction while cornering. If the onset of a skid is identified, the system can apply brakes to the appropriate wheel to control yaw and even reduce the throttle to help keep the vehicle on track.
Four-wheel Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) deploys power to the appropriate wheels during slippery conditions.

Active Front Headrests
In certain low-speed rear-end collisions, active front headrests use the force of the occupant’s body against the seatback to move the headrest diagonally upward instantaneously to help support the head, thereby helping to reduce the severity of a whiplash injury.

Comprehensive Braking System
A specially designed Multi-terrain Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) works in conjunction with four-wheel ventilated disc brakes to help reduce stopping distance and aid the driver in maintaining directional control, even during hard braking. Multi-terrain ABS can help detect the type of surface the vehicle is on and adjusts the ABS to help improve stopping distances.
Brake Assist helps provide increased brake pressure when the system detects an emergency stop. By monitoring how quickly and forcefully the brake pedal is pressed, Brake Assist helps compensate by automatically applying increased braking boost until the pedal is released. Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) modulates the amount of brake force delivered to each wheel based on the driving condition.

Smart Stop Technology
For additional peace of mind, this safety feature is designed to automatically reduce engine power when the driver is pressing down the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time under certain conditions. When the brake pedal is released, the Smart Stop Technology disengages. The feature does not engage if the brake pedal is pressed before the accelerator.
